Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've just been kind of busy lately but I still wanted to get a video out there for you guys. I redid my build of dwm and thought it would be cool to show it off. Also I got cool picom animations now :D
Hey maxhudotdev i got a question soo im going to dualboot my pc today and i was thinking after finished installation of arch linux i can just open terminal and run commands u provided in quick-start on github?
i just want to slowly do it because of stuff windows is doing lately
also if u could like show me any tut on how i can do 1:1 stuff from video u made around 4 months ago the "the most BEAUTIFUL desktop you'll ever see" sry im just new to this
@@Pewcio-x No, thats just for installing my build of dwm. You still need to setup xorg and picom and have the jetbrains mono font installed and libxinerama to compile it. You'll also need to install my build of slstatus and dmenu. I'll probably make a script to set up all of this later when I have time.
@@Pewcio-x That video showcased hyprland, I made video on how to setup hyprland on endeavouros (basically arch) a while back here: ua-cam.com/video/Tvo_OUAW_KY/v-deo.html, you should follow this.
After that you just need to install stuff like wofi and waybar copy my configs from github.com/maxhu08/dotfiles-old/tree/hyprland-dots. Keep in mind that this takes a while and might not feel super easy if you're new to linux. I have heard about hyprdots which has a script that should set up everything for you, but I don't know since I haven't tried it yet.

The more I watch these tiling videos, the more I appreciate having 3 displays and not having to worry about that nonsense.
I have 2 monitors and mainly only have 1 window open an each screen at once, but tiling windows are still great for my laptop. And also being able to switch workspaces super fast is amazing.
after you learn how to properly use one monitor with tiling, you rarely need more than one, tho
I have 4 Monitors and use dem aswell🤫
@@paulomota4147 I like being able to see things in big windows. Something like little terminal windows would be great for tiling.

Yes electron apps work fine on xorg.
The animation support needs to be patched into dwm on top of the listed patches?
No the animations are from picom, they can't be patched into dwm
I want to switch to DWM now

I think so, you just need to use the same picom I'm using (picom-simpleanims-git).
awesome, can i inistall your setup on fedora 40? i'm new to wm and can't decide which to try, i3, hyprland, or dwm.
You can install dwm on any distro, but it's easier to do on arch, and picom-simpleanims-git (which is the picom fork in this video) is in the aur.
If you want to get into window managers, try i3 or hyprland, since there's a lot of tutorials on those.
@@maxhudotdev i want dwm, i played a bit with i3, and hyprland can have problems with my nvidia card. will your config files work on fedora (maybe with some tweaking)?
You shouldn't have to tweak anything it's just making sure you install the right packages (like xorg) for dwm to compile properly. If you can get dwm to compile it should just work.

I try on VMware I install dwm and then dmenu and it work but when I install your build dmenu doesn't working

What happens if you try to run dmenu in the terminal? What errors did it give? Also make sure you’re passing the right flags to it.

flags are like arguments with a dash before them like -c or -nf. For example, in my dwm config, my dmenu command looks like this:

@maxhudotdev hello I check the flags they are correct but when I press the keybind to open dmenu still doesn't open

Are you using my build of dwm? also make sure you're pressing the right keybinds like in config.h
