    Thank you, Patrick. I do like the time lapse. I bet a lot of people wish I had time lapse...my tour goes on and on and on for a half hour. Your garden looks FANTASTIC. I was wondering how your gardens fared this heat we have been having. So happy we have had enough rain during this heat wave. Thank you for the update and sharing your joy.

    Jungle is right. Her in Minnesota we have been alternating between scorching heat and monsoon rains. We are over an inch again since early this morning and it's still coming down. It's tough spending any time outside but, the harvests so far have been phenomenal. Keep up the time lapses, they're fun to see. :-)

    I like to see these type of videos, I got to see June in 5 minutes. ;) Although for documentation purposes I would believe they're even more important to the gardener, glad you share it with us. I Love your Oscar, and he poses for his takes. How about that?!! Lol Thanks again Patrick for sharing, I just wish you could share some of that rain. Here in South Texas all of June got to 100s-90s only one day in the 80s and no rain plus June isn't even our hottest months. :/ I hope we get some soon. :)

    Love the time lapse. I could watch it over and over. The garden looks great. I can't help but notice much further behind I am here in Milwaukee even though I'm less then an hour drive from Chicago. I think I need to look into starting earlier, under cover, in my area to beat the late winters and cool springs. I will have to work on designing some type of removable hoop housing that will work with my straw bale set up. Do you have any ripe tomatoes yet?

    • @OneYardRevolution

    I really like the time lapse videos.
    Also, I’m wondering about “crop rotation”. It seems like you’ve got some plants scattered around the garden as opposed to all in one bed, like all tomatoes here, all spinach there. (Maybe I’m wrong) Add in secession planting and that seems like a lot of stuff to keep track of in your head, at least it would be for me. Do you keep some sort of record of what plants were planted where, and is there a method used to plan out upcoming crops in advance? Like a log book or journal?

    • @OneYardRevolution
      @OneYardRevolution  6 років тому

      Crop rotation helps alleviate pest, disease, and nutrient issues common in monocultures. Because most of our beds are polycultures, we don't have to worry about crop rotation in those beds. We only rotate crops when we plant one crop in a bed. For example, we always plant all of our potatoes together, and we rotate them as a result. I hope this helps.

    Love time lapse videos. Looking forward to more. I think my indeterminate tomatoes have it in for me as they are forking into 2 main stems and I can't trim to single stem in time. Time will tell with my harvest who wins. We seem to be past our drought phase with rain once or twice a week. Heat in the high 80's is great for tomatoes and peppers. Eggplant is a little slow. Any cures for stink bugs in your repertoire? Seen a few but don't know if they have natural predators here. Enjoy your upcoming July 4th. 🇨🇦 day is today and loving it!

    • @OneYardRevolution
      @OneYardRevolution  6 років тому

      Thanks Valerie! Yeah, sometimes we let a few suckers grow too, especially later in the season when blight has claimed many of the lower leaves. This technique should help prevent stink bugs: ua-cam.com/video/VlefMeXXA5o/v-deo.html

    You got a great deal more rain than we have had here in CT. I have had to water each day as it was so dry the plants drank every drop of water I could give them. It rained, finally on Thursday into Friday and then the heat hit on Saturday into today which is 1 July. I will water tomorrow morning as it will be hot all week long. Just had a question. I have some determinate tomatoes that have been on the vine for over a month and have not turned red. Why? I have fed them calcium and bonemeal. Not much nitrogen though. Does it take longer for determinate tomatoes to ripen?

    • @OneYardRevolution
      @OneYardRevolution  6 років тому

      I hope you get more rain soon, Barbara. Our determinate tomatoes are just starting to turn red. They typically ripe as the plant starts to die back.

    Great video Patrick. Very inspiring. I'm jealous of the rain, as I live Utah 5b and it's been incredibly dry here and it's been hitting the mid 80 and mid 90s. I've been watering my plants every day because last time I didn't, a lot of my plants suffered noticeably. I have two inches of whole leaf mulch on my garden beds, and I feel like I need to water extra, otherwise the water simply get trapped in the layers of leaves and barely wet the soil on top. What can I do to improve my watering efficiency?

    • @OneYardRevolution
      @OneYardRevolution  6 років тому +1

      Thanks! Make sure to have the water source very close to the ground and thoroughly soak the mulch and soil. A single watering will take much longer, but you won't have to water as often.

    i really enjoyed this and all of your videos. I have been gardening for years and this is the first year that I have not planted my gardens yet because I have been taking care of an elderly parent in addition to working full time. It's already July, I live in CT and wondering if it's too late to plant. So sad about not having my own greens, peas, beans, kale, mustards, peppers, etc. And another question, what are tree collards and where can I get them?

    • @OneYardRevolution
      @OneYardRevolution  6 років тому +1

      Thanks Diba! There are still many crops you can plant, including bush beans, carrots, malabar spinach, some determinate tomatoes, and more. Plus, it'll be time to plant for fall soon. Tree collards are a perennial collard in zones 7 through 10. My supplier is no longer in business, but you can get them on Amazon: amzn.to/2MFn6bW

      They're 1/2" EMT electrical conduit. The pipes are 10' tall and I push them into the ground about 2', so they're very stable.

    Wow! Speaking of heat, and your video about watering now when plants are stressed, do your cucumbers wilt in the heat? Is it a problem if they do? I'd really like to finally do well with cucumbers, and we just had our first very excellent ones here today in south-central PA.

      Hi Adam! Yes, our cucumbers droop in the hot sun. This is okay as long as there's enough moisture in the soil. If in doubt, put your finger in the soil a few inches down. If the soil is dry, make sure to water. Mulch helps prevent soil from drying out.

    How much sunlight does you garden get daily?

      It varies from about 4 to 7 hours in different locations.

    Love the time lapse video. Let me have a gauge on how my garden is doing in month of June. Do you ever have to deal with critters problem like squirrels etc and birds?

      Thanks! They don't cause too many problems for us, but soon I'll be covering our blueberries soon with bird netting. They like them a lot.

    I don't have a garden this year, and if I did, it would have been destroyed by hail, since it has hail at least 5 times since May.

    Oh my, this is my second summer here, I am learning, But I can't believe that my sun chokes are taller than yours mid June I want to jump for joy. I learned most from you about woodchips and mulch. I only used to use grass clippings. All summer we have 90-99 degrees every day and very little rain. Forgive me for bragging but I just had to, I learn well.. Your garden is amazing.

    I love it! So green, so lush! I would love to see a species list of videos for seed saving. Can you describe your seed saving routine? Again, thank you for the quality videos and many thanks to the king of the jungle for making his royal appearance.
