I love listening to people talk about their guitars and other things they enjoy. Listening to your stories I was reminded of a Jimmy Buffet song, "He Went to Paris." Some of it's magic and some of it's tragic, but I had a good life all the way. Thanks.
Bryan, it was nice that Michael let you keep those Authentics in the shop as long as you wanted to have them around. Your Proulx OMD is a very special guitar, and I love the color of that Southeast Asian Rosewood, and the bound neck it has on it.
I believe someone hid a full sized guitar with an amp in that Proulx & that Elkhorn mandolin is a real hoss as well!!!!!!! Both of those instruments have monster tone!!!!!!! The resonator cone & spider that you put in the Regal might have been a Quarterman. I'm pretty sure Stew Mac sells those.
Awesome video. Some day I want to get hold of a Martin D28 to compare to my Recording King. That would make for a nice video, budget versus Name brand. That custom 000 you have, that's your favorite and you modified the neck, is so sweet too... Man... What a guitar.. That's why I love this channel. So sorry to hear about your son David. We lost our daughter and can relate. No parent should ever outlive their child.
It's rough. He died of an incredibly rare blood disease that wasn't even diagnosed until a year after he was gone. ua-cam.com/video/cg7jT-1wdrE/v-deo.html
@@Bryankimsey That sucks so much. And he was so young. You never really get over it either. You just learn to deal with it better, in my opinion. I still remember getting the call from work the day my daughter passed, she was in her late 20s. And she was living with us at the time. My wife still has very bad days I know you don't know me, but if you ever need someone to just talk to about it, just let me know.
@Kimsey Lutherie oh I cannot imagine what you been through. I would hope with your knowledge of repairing vintage Martins that you will still have customers regardless of your move👍
I quit for nearly a year. I had to come back because people were very persuasive in their requests to work on their 70's. Due to time constraints, I just decided to limit my work to 70's and really interesting things.
Noooooooooooooo.... no fiddle!!!! :) I've had them before. I can't play them. Neither can Marty, according to him. He's got some fantastic stories about playing fiddle with Johnny Cash before he went to bass.
I use my custom set of Elixirs... I take the HD set and substitute a .056". So... .056, .042, .032, .024, .017, .013. It's the same as the D'Addario EJ24, GHS TM335, and John Pearse True Medium. The tension is much more balanced than either straight medium or lights.

Enjoyed hearing all the origin stories. Love the binding on the OM/D. Is it maple? It looks very white
I can't remember what it is. It might be holly. I don't think it's maple 'cause there's no flame at all.
Sorry to see you outside of the workshop that I was used to seeing you in. The Proulx is outstanding and sounds like a Dreadnought to me.
Moving was the 2nd most stressful experience of my life. I'm just happy to have some sort of space to work in, hoping to make it better this summer.

No fiddle? Let me help you with that. I have an 1890s Stiener for you. Carved peg head that looks like Marty Stewart kinda. LOL
