Flying the Yak-9T on the finnish virtual pilots server. Some thoughts on the Yak-9T: The gun is unreliable at best. If you hit the tail or fuselage of a german fighter you most likely arent bring down that guy. The damage vs wings is fine. Performance wise its very close to the Yak-1b. So its really not a late war plane or something. It entered service in 1943. The thing which makes the Yak-9 special are the metal spars, tail and stabelizers which raise the rated dive speed a lot. Finally you are able to dive after germans. Climb rate, alt performance etc still suck hard.
@@SheriffsSimShack The contact visibility increase has been a very large improvement in my experience; I've found it to be significantly easier to spot targets at close and medium range and visibility around clouds seems a whole lot more consistent. What are your thoughts on the matter?
Spend few h in QM in it , just shooting 37 HE at 109s and 190s. Most hits when they are turning and have G lod. If hits on 109s were in engine/pilot area or wing tips, it was always 1 hit and done (fire pilot or wing loss), sometimes if wings were hit it took 2, but maybe ~30%, other ~70% was 1 hit no mather where it hit on wing. But big problem is if hits are in area behined pilot, there its never 1 hit and done, it takes usealy 3 sometimes and up to 5 hits. I dont understand how tail section dont get weakend by 1x30 or 37 HE hit so G just rips it after it, or how rudder or elevator controls can servive direct 30 or 37 HE hits in it. I tryed all 109 types and 190s as target, 190s take more damage as expected, most 1 hits were when i hit engine area and some would be wing hits (still dot understand how 190 wing brakes at root in this game it should be stronger there). I also tryed 30 HE in 109 on same 109s and 190s, and had same resoults ( 30HE is dealing more damage then this 37HE when i test it on bigger airplanes that can take more damage like 111). I used aim asist, 1 shot at time, and would even slow down time to make sure i hit what i wont to hit, something is off with how tail section absorb bullets, its not guns falt its DM of airplanes.
I've tested the gun a fair bit now. With all explosive ammo it seems to do the same amount of damage as a mk 108 since the new damage model came into effect. 1 shot will generally cripple but not kill a plane unless the pilot gets killed. 2-3 will usually bring them down. Just with the mk 108 you usually have more rounds hitting due it's better rate of fire. The ns-37 has a better trajectory though. At least those are the results i got testing single shots of the mk 108 vs the ns 37 Also the NS 37 seems more likely to cause fires and break wings. The mk 108 seems more likely to do pilot kills. Shot for shot though the end results are about the same, dead plane in 2-3 hits.
@@DerKurfuerst Yes, that was my reasoning as well. The 37 is a bigger round with less filler hence more structural damage hence more likely to take off a wing, but less concusive splash
@@het61yt NS-37 was designed to destroy tanks, but the time the cannon was put into servise, tanks had increased tickness of the armor, and this gun was to late.
That is how all large calibers act when hitting center mass. If you hit targets with one or two rounds this will happen. Fly the 110 with a 37mm or fighter with a mk30. Then hit your targets with one or two rounds. Should see nearly the same results. What it takes to down planes is multiple hits if aiming for center of mass.
I think the 37mm is fine, if you're hitting the rear of the fuselage with 1 shoot I dont think you should expect a 1 shot 1 kill, at least compared to other large caliber rounds in the game.
Hello sherif, I am going to get some rudder pedals and it would be nice to get any tips on how/when u would use the ruder in a dogfight. Thanks On a side note I like your videos- they’re very informative
so here's a tip you probably won't hear from others that may be of some use when incorporating the rudder into your flying. I only use the rudder during normal flight to maintain a relatively clean aerodynamic profile 'keep the ball centred' as people suggest. It takes a bit to get a feel for, but its not something that requires dramatic inputs. using the rudder for aiming is hit and miss. It can be used for deflection shots, but I'd suggest just using it in the aforementioned way the majority of the time and aiming mainly with pitch and roll. So here's the actual tip I've found recently. I've started using the rudder when in lead pursuit, turning and rolling trying to close the distance and make a shot. which ever way you want to turn or roll to lead the target, use also that direction of rudder. So rather than say, match planes of roll with the target and follow them like that, you can cut inside their turn a bit. You will be slightly out of phase in the plane of roll when pursuing in this way, and so achieve a deflection angle rather than a dead 6 o clock position. This tends to lead to more critical damage and larger target profiles in my experience having started doing this. It also means you can negate an enemies roll rate advantage that would otherwise prevent you from making a shot if you are in the same plane of roll as them. Essentially they will be criss-crossing and phasing in and out of your guns. Just don't panic and try to match their roll angle to much, concentrate more on the right speed and predicting the next window for a firing solution. This is also the secret to downing bombers with minimal damage too, as you are never staying on their 6 o'clock directly. I apologise if I've used the wrong terms, not sure how to describe it exactly
You need to test the mega-cannon in single-player because in multi-player all hits are approximations due to inherent lag problem, so it may look to you that you hit your opponent but he doesn't see anything because the lag prevented this hit from registering on his end of the network.
Comparison with the P-39? On paper the Russian has higher velocity and rate of fire. On the other hand you get two .50s on the P-39 and only one 12.5 mm on the Yak. In both cases a 20 mm would match the ballistics of the MGs better, allowing for more effective aiming while shooting the cannons and MGs together.
The reason why you got your kill stolen is that you were right in the 109's six, while the other Yak came from above which made his shots more damaging.
When your literally shooting a gun of the same mm as a typical British medium weight anti aircraft gun (Bofors 40mm), you are right to expect better results lol. Those things did serious damage to anything nearby, nevermind direct hits. I feel the new damage model has modelled smaller caliber guns better than but falls short for the big guns. Maby the gun is intended more for ground attacking? Sure they'll patch it though
I’m pretty sure the damage it does is pretty catastrophic nearly every time, but it takes A LOT to break a fuselage. They might still be flying but they’re all one step from death. Also a few of his hits could’ve suffered from dusting, where it shows a hit client side but the server didn’t pick it up.
What is your set up? Do you run VR? the patch did something where it changed my head swivel which is controlled by my thumb stick on my joystick...I cant turn my head without zooming in now. Its really annoying.
I notice your aim was not that great, have you tried using the wire and post sight? I can't use the reflector sight for the life of me, but the wire and post is so much better in my experience, could be worh a try

The 39 has more punch and the Yak has more velocity. So you’re more or less trading power for accuracy with the Yak.
