Today our world is learning to transmit data with light with electrons and photons in devices ranging from cell phones to guidance systems and data storage... glass is still an important material for the new technologies ... grinding glass for shaping mirrors and lenses is exactly the same as cutting lass for chandelier or fancy punch bowls... a prism is a prism... but making light and concentrating light in lasers is adding to the developments. The telescope and the microscope are devices with lenses... as the latest EUV chip printers made by ASML are devices with a series of lenses... pushing EUV light with powerful new lasers... yet the photographic process is still fundamentally the basic process... ancient silk screen printing and later lithography printing are now combined with natural elements and metals to produce extremely small imagery and 3d forms as computer chips... now building photonics chips photographically is beginning to replace electron integrated circuits... faster, cooler and even smaller.
