Travis I’m a huge fan. I saw you roll at redbud mx in 1999. Wow. What you’re talking about is absolutely the truth, I lost my leg because of a triple jump. I was in hospice care for nine years. I got off the damn opioids and I smoke for relief. I’m following suit with what I’ve learned from our military boys coming back. I’m now walking again got my son a dirtbike and got myself a quad. Back doing what we love. The key is to keep moving.
this is good to hear. i’m six months off of a skydiving crash; shattered knees, femurs, pelvis, & fused thoracic spine. working as hard as i can to push through the pain, be able to walk normally again, and eventually get back to sports.
You may never be the same, but you innovate, you do what you need to do. Make sure with that many injuries that you do not get hooked into the opiate pitfall. What will happen is the opioids will take away the pain for a while, then the increases, then all the bad things will happen. Central apnea, that’s the one that your brain stop sending a signal for you to breathe several times in our during your sleep. No one will tell you the other side effects are opioids like you won’t wanna have sex. Your bone density will go down. Your teeth will start to rot. Then you will become hypersensitive to regular pain. And at the very end it will put you in a slow spiral down and you’ll be taking it just so you don’t feel ill. I learned my lesson the hard way. They had me on that crap since 2001. Dude I can’t even imagine sky diving let alone crashing. Good luck
@@qzaxy6264 damn mate, so sorry to hear. i got off of the drugs about as quick as i could (about 1.5 months after my crash). im hoping in that time, it didn’t do too much damage; the pain was intolerable without it. appreciate you taking the time to comment, sending you all the best.
Definitely agree with qzaxy, you’ll never be the same but you adapt. I’m 9 months out of shattering my pelvis, femurs and some vertebrae in my lumbar spine. They said I wouldn’t walk for 6 months and I was walking in 4. Lots of long days in the gym and therapy. I got back riding for the first time last weekend and was just as fast just a little different style because my body doesn’t move the same. Stay positive and keep working hard man. You got this!
Thank you guys so much for talking about this. I’m one of those guys that was a long term action/outdoor sports athlete(amateur) but then got irreparably injured at the age of 21 and my whole life completely fell apart. I was ashamed of my injury/illness and became a total recluse and lost all my friends. I’m trying my best the last couple years to be more active and it’s been helping my physical and mental state tremendously. My gf wanted to go camping so we got a Van to camp in to make it physically easier and that’s enabled me to travel, hike and just be a wild man in general again. Now I’m dipping back into my old action sports to see what Else is possible. I just wanna go fast on some wheels and catch that adrenaline rush again. I’ve been looking at the older guys in these sports to get inspiration and so glad I found some more here. Nice to know there’s others out there struggling with this issue and I’m not just an anomaly. ✌️🤘
I am 36 years old now and still look up to this dude like I did when I was a kid. Always look forward to what he has to say! Hope he is able to get his body recovered to enjoy walks with the fam without pain and any other simple things in life!
This was super interesting. I actually think about Travis and his injuries a lot. Iv got lots of plates and screws but nothing compared to this him and there are days I can barely get outta bed without 6 Tylenol. Iv always wondered how this guy continues to do what he does. Dude is an animal
Tylenol with other meds particularly anti depressants & anti anxiety & anti histamine/allergy & a few other 'meds' , have a compound in them which blocks neurotransmitters in the brain & causes symptoms with prolonged use same as dementia . . recent medical study finding
And with that being said I know sometimes it can be easier said than done that's why they call it life because we got to put a little effort in to get what we want or what we need
I will have to concur with Travis on that theory of working hard thru injuries. I have completely experienced what he is referring too since I had broken my back and shoulder years ago. The doctors told me I couldn’t do this or that, and have limited range of motion. I proved them all wrong on everything they said by hard work. I stressed everything to compensate for any weakness. I noticed this more so these last 2 years since my position at my store has changed not requiring the work. Now, I have noticed parts of me are falling apart, lol! So, I am getting back to work, lol!
When he said he had no CTE on his test it’s not true. CTE can only be detected post mortem. I think this dude has been KO’d 20 plus times which is insane and unfortunately is at a major chance of developing it.
Cheers for insight fella's. I know how you feel. After multiple concussion's and breaking leg and destroyed knee, I now have epilepsy which stopped me driving on roads and can hardly squatt at all, can't even kneel on my hed. It's stopped me riding or doing almost anything. Wish I had cash to get help. I'm now on disability pension. Life has turned to shit
Hey Trav did they have to get injected with contrast for the 20x more powerful MRI? I need one but have not been willing or wanting to recieve the chromium injection. Or whatever a normal MRI uses for contrast.
If anyone knows Travis tell him to explore Knees Over Toes exercises developed by a man named Ben Patrick. It will help his knee problems immensely. He has lots of free content on the internet and you can listen to him explain what he's doing by finding his visit on the Joe Rogan podcast!
No I've been saying that PTSD was just trauma for a long time and it's trauma that you have to learn how to deal with everybody is different some people have mental issues some have physical but sitting on your butt and dwelling over it does not make it any better need to get outside you need to stay active as much as possible you know if you're in a wheelchair get out of the house you know try to go to Parks cruise around do something but sitting around and being depressed does not help
