I really just want them to make a Batman live action show staring Batman, they could adapt Year One for the first season and use the very original batman costume, the one with the purple gloves if there is a budget issue. The show Arrow shows that you can make a Batman like TV show.

I found it odd how they portrayed Harvey Bullock, I always thought he was Jim's underling, the stereotypical, fat cynical, cop. In Gotham, they seem to have him as his boss and mentor, his character also seems heavily influenced on Gene Hunt from Life on Mars (specifically the UK one, but all the racism dumbed down)

Well he was originally hired in the 80s comics to sabotage Gordon's reputation, but changed his mind when he saw the good he was doing. and in the new 52, he was retconned as a good guy from the beginning.

Gotham was not what as a batman fan I expected to see I haven't been this disappointed since the dark knight rises when they changed Robins Origin....The part that I really hate about the show is how they are deciding to develop The Rouges origins how they are introducing them before there actual time and Bringing Arkham before Batman is....smh...I would hate to see how they are gonna introduce Bane and Killer Croc

in hindsight i found the full first season of gotham to be an interesting take on established characters but i think this is because i have grown up in an age where super hero's can have multiple origin stories where as things were kind of set in stone before i like seeing what people can come up with personaly

I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but Gotham is my favorite dc show on right now. Although I hate how fast they run through great characters and just leave them. Bruce has become a more likeable character for me now considering how he was a kid for a couple of episodes. Anyways the show has gotten a lot better, but im kinda mad the joker is in the new episode lets just hope ian from shameless plays a good joker... he has a nice crazy laugh :p

I've loved your vids for a while now, but recently I've kinda quit watching them. And I know why now. I'm starting to have differing opinions from you. Now I realize that it's your opinion and I respect that, but you are WAY too critical of anything that isn't following comic or BTAS canon. You just seem almost depressing. You troll and complain about everything non canon. Just to point some things out, Montoya is in character in Gotham, because yes, she is gay in the comics. Secondly, you don't know half the stuff you're talking about. In the BTAS episode you were referencing, it was Montoya and a rookie cop, not two, that went in after Harvey jumped the gun, but I can see how you might've messed that up since you can get jumbled up sometimes. You kept complaining how Bruce was constantly on his smartphone and stuff, when he's never on his phone on that show. Secondly, you need to get over your love for BTAS. I liked that show a lot, but it's not the best show ever made. You need to understand that Gotham is its own story, and it's only loosely based on the comics. I think Harvey Bullock is pretty cool on the show BTW. I love Arrow and the Flash shows too, more than Gotham, but I still enjoy it. Like I said, I respect your opinion and hope I don't make you angry or offended.
Montoya has NO role in the show, other then to being the typical "gay character" constantly reminding the viewer about Her brief time with Barbra. Oh and being the pain in the Gordon's relationship. She is poorly done, downgraded to a jealous loser Boyfriend role from a Soap Opera. Also Her Partner on the Force isn't getting a lot of Character development either. When Crispus Allen, is a really cool GCPD Cop. Fact. It's has nothing do with canon, it has to do with poor characterization. Re-imagining stuff is fine. But treading to far from the source material is the issue i'm having. Which based on how Episode 4 went I don't see the show getting much better. I like it as a Cop Drama, but not as a Batman related show. Not to say it can't change. But they have a lot of work a head of them. Also introducing to many future Bad Guys is a very bad thing. Spend several episodes on each Foe's rise to who they become.
I agree that Montoya isn't portrayed as a good character. She's not very important to the plot except to create conflict between Jim and Barb. And I couldn't agree more about Crispus. He hasn't been in the past two episodes, and when he is, he's ganging up on Jim with Montoya.
You buddy, are kind of doing what you're accusing Kwing of doing. You're tearing him down and knit picking his video. So what if there was only one other cop instead of two. You feel just as strongly about your opinion as Kwing does. So, let him have his and you can have yours.

i will admit i do like how they show the penguin building up from a bus boy to a major crime boss. i know that's not how they do it in the comics but i enjoy it.
They actually didn't do any Harvey Dent split personality things, So thats good. Harvey eventually after like half of season one does go back to being on the straight n' narrow, along with actually becoming angered and hardened towards vigilantes. Also Bruce does end up going to boarding school. He also has periods of time where he is grieving over his parents. During those periods of time where he seemed to be over it, he was just trying to be strong, which eventually he actually takes a bit and takes time to grieve for the better part of a season. Penguin eventually does become the king-pin of Gotham, eventually gaining the Ice Burg Lounge. He also becomes mayor of Gotham for all of 2 and a half seasons before being shipped off to prison. The "Joker"-ish character Jerome does appear mid season one, only to disappear until the end of season 2 to get killed off. Later on though he comes back in mid-late season 3. His final appearance is late in season 4 where he as a character is killed off once again, never to return...Well except he has a twin brother Jeremiah, who is sprayed with "joker gas" and becomes "Kinda Joker". But in the final season, season 5, (which you predicted the show would end in season 5) It is clear that Jeremiah is the unspoken "Joker" of this universe.
I personally really love Gotham so far. It makes so many references to the universe it's based on. Plus I really like what they're doing with Penguin. I do agree that if he was cutting and burning himself he may be a little insane, but I've done it once before, a long time ago, and I was not diagnosed with insanity. I just wasn't thinking straight and felt like I had to solve my own problems. I think that's the point Bruce is at right now. I also do hate the Montoya, And the Gordon's it's awful!!! It's not the acting either, but it's almost as bad as the drama in Smallville. You're awesome Kwing!!! Thanks for sharing your opinion!!! =-)

The main problem I have is that the villains being here are by plot convenience. Catwoman saw the Wayne murders? The framed killer is Ivy's dad? Riddler works for GCDP?! What next? Bane is Bruce's childhood friend?!

I'm all for change. But it has to be a good change. Just because the character has been around for 75 years doesn't mean they should muddy the characters to this extent. It's like watching a Car Accident in slow motion..
I totally understand not liking a certain plotline or element in a show because it's weak, bad, cliched, etc. That's perfectly fine. However, it seems like most of the complaints regarding Gotham is due to how it deviates from the canon of the comics.
SO. WHAT.
It's not like comics routinely feature alternate timelines or universes, often contradictory with each other, right? Oh wait, they do. And in the eyes of an average comic book fan, that's a perfectly acceptable practice. Yet when a TV show based on Batman comes along and it has the gall to make a few changes here and there, it's bloody murder. You do realise that the general audience (AKA the target demographic) doesn't know every single minute detail of the Batverse, right?
People complain all the time that they want something "new", "fresh", or "original". Okay, fair enough, but you have to break from tradition to make it happen. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
The main problem is that the people who watch this don't know much about batman. So this is the door into that world for them. Once they go through that door they'll be confused as to what Batman's world is really like. I'm fine with them making some changes but do it in a smart and clever way. I think that's the main issue with television. Not enough intelligent clever writers.
If you have a talented writer and treat the Characters with respect. Then yes, you can have your Cake and eat it too =)
But the shape of Gotham at this point in time, nope. Not to say things can't get better. I offered suggestions. Seems people skipped that part haha

@kNIGHTWING01 Im sorry if I sound disrespectful, but, you know what I dislike about your general judgment? You never say "I personally dont like" or "I feel this isnt right" you straight up said "This is a bad thing, its terrible and you should dislike it too". Im sorry for being unable to see the complete video, but I just found the reasons as mere pet peeves as opposed to actual judgement. I see the series as a way to show how the bad guys in Gotham will EVENTUALLY become costumed lunatics. Thats why Gordon can deal with them. As far as I know, there will not be a Riddler in the show, only Edward Nigma, no Mr Freeze, only Victor Fries, etc. Also, you complaining about it being diferent from the comics is pretty confusing when you let the original Batman, where he murdered people and The Joker had an alias, slip.

You make it sound like you can't have different interpretations of characters like Penguin or Bullock and that they HAVE to be the same as their animated series versions else they're ruined forever. The batman from the 60s show isn't the same as the batman in the Nolan Films. The Joker from the 89 film isn't the same as the joker from The Brave and the Bold. Bullock in the animated series isn't the same Bullock as in Gotham.
I'm not saying the show is perfect (far from it) but I did have a problem with one of your criticisms being the characters are too different. Batman's been around for 75 years and in that time characters change a lot.
Ah but this is where your WRONG. All those series you brought up with the different interpretations of the character. Were true to the Characters. Yes the 60's series was campy. But Batman was then. The Burton stuff was Dark, to reflect the 1980's and Frank Miller stint. Nolan, captured the post 911 Emotion of the World and Comics. So Batman was even Darker. Brave and the Bold was Inspired by the Directors Childhood on what Batman was like in the Silver Age. HOWEVER; all those versions of Batman DID NOT change the core of the character or his World's elements. Tweeked Yes, but not an entire fresh approach. If you still think different, you're as BLIND as a Bat haha.

But yeah I see what you're saying maybe it's because I haven't seen or read as much Batman as you (I mean just one of your arkham videos shows more information about one villain than I know about an entire rouges gallery) but this show didn't feel that different to me from what I was used to from Batman. kNIGHTWING01 another great video but i have an idea about how the show can get better maybe in trying to make gotham a better place he accidentally makes it worse allowing and then the rest of the series is gordon fighting a war that he can't win, allowing batman to step in 12 years later and fix it.

I watched the 2 episodes, thought it was okay. Then I started watching the third episode, right after watching The Flash and Arrow (all were recorded) and I almost fell asleep halfway through. I think I'm done with this show.

No disrespect and I know I'm very late, so you probably won't even see this comment, but even in season 2 they fixed a lot of the issues and it's only got better since. I'm nearly done with season 4 and the 5th season hasn't been shown here in the UK. I love his videos but I sometimes feel you way too critical of stuff that isn't exactly following the comics or BTAS and are unable or unwilling to open yourself up to new ideas. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad.
I did have lots of issues in season 1, but by the end of season 2 all of them were fixed. The only thing is they do still make Jim seem to much like a superhero, but that's his character in this and I've got used to it. If there's one problem I have with the show though, it's the introduction of The Joker and although, The Joker character is decent now, I'm still not sure I like it that much, but I'm getting used to it and it will be interesting to see what he's like in season 5. I sound like I hate the show, but I actually quite like it, it just took some getting used to back in season 1.
I've had a big problem with them using the big villains in ridiculous ways. Riddler working for the GCPD? Catwoman watching the Waynes get killed? That's just stupid. If they were to focus more on the organized crime part of the Batverse, which I think is the little known part of it, and use the big wigs there like Falcone, Marone, and even Black Mask, it could be a much better show. I still love the Bullock character, even if they take creative license with him simply because Donal Louge is a great actor and I try to watch everything he does. I'm still going to watch it; I enjoy some of the things in it.
If they just focused more on the organized Crime thing it could be a really good show. But bringing in all these pre Batman foes...like every other week. NO. That's a bad idea. Unless they are going to do a time skip. Tbh they are rushing stuff
I think I remember them saying there would be absolutely no Batman until maybe the last episode or maybe the final season. Now, I like Jim Gordon, and think that Ben McKenzie is doing a good job as him, but I don't think it's enough to lead a show like this unless they are going to do a full Batman TV show after it's done.

The problem with following the comics is that you create a boring story. You know where things are going and how everyone turns out. Would we actually watch a show if we already know the future of the characters? For how long? How can you create drama when you already know who lives and dies? It would just be a massive series where you already know all the plot spoilers.

Uhh this tired old argument. The arkam games follow the comics really well are they boring? If so why did you even watch this video? Did respecting the source materiel make the Bruce Timm shows fail? The Marvel movies have made Billions upon billions accurately portraying their franchises. Even word for word recreations make money. People willingly paid for Bruce Timms word for word recreation of The Dark Knight rises. They constantly release animated version of Comic story arcs, many of them quite recent. This argument holds no water.
FinnyIicious "The Shinning of the Batman Universe" You realize the Shinning is considered a really good movie right? You're assertions about this being a stand alone thing make no sense. It makes absolutely no sense to acquire or use a big ticket license to create something that stands alone. Typically a TV show only has a few million viewers. Alienating the 100,000 or so Batman comic readers is bad for a TV show. Even in the movies The super heroes adoptions that are making boatloads of moody do so by staying true to the comics. Internet groundswell is what created the hype to get the ball rolling on the MCU. Accuracy does matter even from a business perspective. We live in a world where bad press for any Hollywood project can be spread world wide and even intensified in mere seconds. Every live action adoption DC has done in the past decade has turned to shit. Meanwhile Experts were so sure Guardians of the Galaxy would fail simply because it had a talking raccoon and it went on to shatter more records because Marvel earned the trust of fans and general audiences alike by continuously putting a good product rather than resting on the laurels of "Pre existing brand awareness"
Jim Dot Beep A movie is one story and done. A game is one story and done. Both example only need you to pay once, they don't need to keep you going for a whole season. The Dark Knight trilogy doesn't follow the comics either.
Batman The animated series didn't follow the comics exactly. I seem to remember him taking the Batmobile to a friend to get it repaired and Harley was a completely new character that didn't exist in the comics. They took chance and we got a brand new villain out of it.
The main audience that they need to get to are not going to stay if they can just read the comics and know everything. We anime watchers see the same thing when manga are translated into anime. Those who read the manga find it hard to watch the anime since we already know the story ahead of time.
FinnyIicious You're not understanding what I'm saying. The Shinning could have gotten EVERYONE on board by not bying a license they didn't need. If the film was called something else and wasn't trying to ride Stephen Kings coattails it could have made even more money.
All the poeple that are jumping on the Superhero bandwagon do so out of the success of previous entries in the cinematic Superhero craze. The new cinematic superhero craze was started by the hype originally created by actual comic book fans after the by these movies started being made people actually started to take the source material seriously. The internet hype machine is the life blood of this pheonemon. When you go to a video about one of the marvel movies the comment section is pure hype and excitement. When you go to a video about Dawn of Justice it's all vitrial between Batman fans and hollywood apologist. That is BAD for marketing. Dawn of Justice will make money but it won't be anywhere close to the amount a movie on par with the MCU would make.
I totally agree with everything you are saying and I am just as upset and angry about how they are interpreting the origins of Gotham! I am a huge Batman fan and whenever I watch this show I am always disappointed and keep second guessing myself on whether I should continue watching the show at all. I mean it's a good crime show, but it is totally inaccurate and extremely gruesome.

When you were talking about Gordon finding the Waynes' killer and leaving it unsolved, I actually like how TASM did it with Peter not finding Uncle Ben's killer. I do agree with you that Batman should stop crime in Gotham, it's like making a show about Cpt. Stacy stopping the Goblin and Doc Ock.

Yeh, the second season is way better. I liked the first season anyway, but with Azrael and Hugo Strange and a proper Gotham interpretation of the joker, it is amazing (is not was because I've recorded them and still have three episodes to go)

What if you were to look at it from a different perspective? By this I mean what do you think of the show as a standalone product, not thinking about the comics at all? I understand some of the issues will remain (such as Bruce's emotions), but I'm still curious.
The B-Man TAS internal affairs episode is called P.O.V.
Also many shows don't get to a great staus within the first four episodes case in point Arrow so give it time.

It's just a different take on the Gotham not everything has to be like the animated series
Its not that it's a different take, it's that its so bad a take. The writing just gets worse and worse. They keep introducing all this crazy crap thrown in to the point it gets jumbled and convoluted. It doesn't take itself slowly. It just rushes out and tries to cram in as many of Batman's enemies as they can.

I've loved Gotham since episode 1. And Bruce has become alot more prominent recently. Even fighting the guy who supposedly influences the joker.
I just saw the episode where venom is introduced and I thought that was a nice tie-in.
I hoped the first season would be year one then have batman arrive at the end of the season but just be in the shadows. Get the best of both worlds, you get all the villains, you get batman in the background, and you can still focus on Gordon working through everything.
I completely agree with you kwing. It is like a cop drama that tries to mix things up with batman character origins. Also the animated series episode you were referring to is called "POV" I think.
In Len Wein's Untold Legends of the Batman (and I think in all Pre-Zero Hour versions), Batman does eventually find his parents killer and yet continues to be Batman. I think there's a value in that, because otherwise Batman's quest seems purely personal and one almost wonders if when he does find the killer he'll just stop. Batman does work to avenge his parents' death, but not specifically against the man who killed them but against all criminals, all those who prey on the weak, on all the darkness of Gotham and the world. (Also it's important because it shows that Batman would not kill even his parent's murderer, because Batman doesn't kill people, and any Batman that does is really Jean Paul Valley in disguise.)
Ah but in that Zero Hour Comic. Did Bruce find closure when He was a little Kid? NO! IF He had, no reason to dedicate his Life to fighting Injustice. However; I personally loved the Bronze stories about Joe Chill being the Killer of the Wayne's. Then by the Post Crisis it changed. Then changed back. Forget what NU52 is doing w/ Bat's Families Killer tbh

I'd have liked to have it set before the Wayne's died so we can see what Gotham was like before they wee killed so it becomes more interesting.
If Gordon just joins then he works his way up in the ranks and we discover how he got where he was and just how powerful the crime bosses are and that just trying to restore the balance is a major struggle something no one alone can succeed and Gordon spends that time trying until he gets the unexpected help that Batman represents as this series comes to a close.

Maybe Gotham ends with Gordon seemingly ending the corruption but then everything goes wrong, the city goes to war and everything spirals down and down, during this Bruce left to become the man to save Gotham.

Roughly the same age. Harvey Dent will be a little younger then Gordon. Joker is around his late 20's right now. Scarecrow is going to be in his 30's. It's taking a lot of free liberties.

I enjoy Gotham. There's deviations, but that comes with the territory of comic media, and even with the deviations, changes, I still see enough familiar elements (or foreshadowing to certain familiar elements) that make the show enjoyable to watch. I like seeing Penguin slowly climb his way to becoming a crime lord. I dig seeing James Gordon start from the bottom, and work his way to the top as well, I like seeing him slowly change people by example. i like seeing Falcone at the top, know he cant really be taken down until a certain caped crusader tells him "none of you are safe..." I even like the moments between young Bruce and Earth One Alfred. I can see how the could would grow into the adult Bruce/Batman we know, he has the ambition and intelligence, but is at level 5 right now in pokemon standards. I even like having characters to hate, like Fish, Barbara, Maroney. I'm rambling, it's a campy cop show, but it's an enjoyable campy cop show.

What I see happen is as the series progresses, we'll start to see Gotham becoming a hell hole as crime rates will raise, some of the cops start to become more corrupted, Gordon Will probably start to become kind of a broken man and slowly facing the fact that he can't save this city but he still tries, and we'll maybe see Bruce starting to see what is happening in the city to the point where he starts learning how to be a detective and start training himself year by year to one point where he'll be gone for a couple years. We'll might even see him return to Gotham from his training and the series might end with Bruce putting on the cape and cowl and maybe see an older Jim,Harvey,Selina,Edward,Oswald, and Alfred (heck, maybe even Barbara when she's just a child)
Some problems I have with the Gotham is that they don't show young Bruce Wayne training to become Batman. There also seems to be this idea that anyone could become an arch villain just because they feel like it. Becoming either a super villain or hero(even a non powered one) should take a lot of work, talent, and dedication.
