Your son may like Math Mammoth or Beast Academy for math. We use Apologia for the hands on activities and Math Mammoth as our main.

That's a great idea! I've been stuck because I love the hands on aspect of MWC, but the text book style of MM
Iggy's House is good. Though when we did MBTP, I think one of the projects has you being a white reporter interviewing the characters or something...i don't remember all of the details, but we just did a small report/essay on lessons my daughter learned from the story, how it made her feel, what she would have done in certain situations. I have no problem with any race or skin color... It was just something about the way it was worded that didn't sound quite right to us.
