Great article. Don’t want harm to come to these wonderful fish and see their populations decimated. Thinking that avoiding fishing for them in summer might be a personal choice each VA angler might have to decide for themselves.
We were out there for an entire week this year fishing all day every day. Caught one largemouth and one flathead. 2nd time having no luck fishing out there like that. Everyone I spoke too hadn't caught anything at all
I caught more fish ( to actually eat ) as a teenager in NYS in three years than I have in VA in the last 47 !!! … lotta dead bass floating in Gaston from the depredation of the fishing tournaments !!!
Sounds like an easy choice: No striper fishing during summer months. Targeting stripers then, could be made illegal. VA Fish and Wildlife announced a 75% mortality rate of stripers caught during the Summer. Article from October 2023
Catch and Release is worst. If you catch and keep. You make the fisherman stop catching fish after the creel has been reached. Regardless of size. But some people don’t give a hoot about the rules or maintaining a fishery. 🤷♂️

Guiding is ruining the striper fishing here. Massive mortality rates in the summer
