Ok-- I'm amazed. I never would have thought of turning two delays hard L (and hard R) that were 180 degrees out of phase. Obviously it works, and gloriously, but I would have assumed that the phase cancellation would have been intense. I'm going to have to break out my maths for this one, Leon!
In mono you'll get phase cancellation, but in stereo you get a "wider than wide" psychoacoustic effect due to the fact our two acoustic detectors (ears) and the grey stuff between them is finely calibrated to detected micro-delays and phase shifts. We evolved to use these to interpret the direction a sound originates from, but now we can use them to bask in epic lead tones!
Agree totally on adding some diffusion to the delays. When I was trying to figure the Halo out that’s where I ended up and I really liked the sound. Also added some modulation similar to a tape delay. Give that one a try with the Aurora.
Awesome Video. I actually like the Aurora on stock setting better than the Keely Halo which I have borrowed for direct comparison. Fractal - as always - rulez ;)
The Strat segment of this Video was KILLER! Great Job Leon. I was soaking in that sound for sure. Damn...the WHOLE video was killer Dude. Watching it again. Keep this stuff up Bro...CHEERS!
Yep I was definitely blown away by the reviews on the Keeley Andy Timmons Halo pedal. In true show of Fractal power, it's in there with a firmware update. So those without a fractal, get one or get the Keeley HALO or even my other favorite the TC ALTER EGO X4
On the Halo Pedal,it has a preset called Rackman BBD, which is a replication on the old half rack Rockman Stereo Echo…I have been trying to my AxeFXIII dialed in to match it,and I have gotten fairly close….Maybe with the Aurora delay I can get closer….
@@LeonTodd So I was digging thru some boxes a few weeks ago…Back in the 80’s,I had all those Little Rock Modules..I thought I sold them long ago…anyway…I opened this box,and there they were…My Sustainor,Chorus, and Stereo Echo…I couldn’t believe it…I had forgotten what I did with them,so I assumed I sold them….I have them patched into my AxeFXIII now,so I can do direct comparisons between them….Very unique devices…..
Aurora delay works nicely in Heaven Above. Would be cool to hear Aurora delay in parallel with H3000 microshift at 30 - 40% wet Love to hear Heaven Above through a Marshall Super Lead 100 with variac applied or [JCM2000 or Bogner] HPF at 30-40Hz on pickups before amp input to tighten bottom, Marshall 1960A loaded with T-75's or Lynchbacks for rhythm guitars. Delete all overdrive pedals 😉
Leon, love your videos on the fractal gear. Just curious….what do you find you gig with typically? I know you have all the fractal units and think you mainly use the fm3. But what about the axe3? I’m thinking of upgrading from the FM3 and on the fence about the FM9 or the Axe3. Thanks
Recently FM3, since we've been traveling for shows. I'll probably switch to the FM9 now that Firmware 3.0 is released and give that a good thrash for the next few months at least. I play the Axe 3 every single day here in the studio though!
I recently watched a video where you had a Lukather-like PCM circular delay. I cleared my You Tube watch history now I can’t find it. Would you send me a link or tell me what the title is? Thanks.
@@LeonTodd LOL Thank you! BTW a year ago I was ready to move into the digital amp world and I was looking at Neural DSP’s Quad Cortex and Fractal. Your videos helped me decide to go with Fractal. I’m STILL digging into the depth and complexities of the Axe FX III and FM3 that I have and I watch a lot of your videos for help. Rock on brother!
Get it! 🤘 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Edited. Did not mean to flip the bird. Sorry. 🤦♂️ Sounds great. Got that thing dialed. Great licks as always.
Hahaha no worries :p

That's wild! What an amazing machine we have access to.

That sounds great Leon. You always keep me informed on how some of my favorite gear continues to improve and evolve.
So cool!
Oh man! So many awesome delays in that unit! You really showcase how great it is.
Super nice!! It’s hard to concentrate and keep from getting sucked into the vortex with those tones and your playing. Thanks for the tips.✨💫
Thankyou!
Great sounding demo and fantastic playing!
Much appreciated!

Funny you mention that, I'm trying to do the same!

The Lynch remix! I need to try that :D

Cliff saving us money on cool Xotic and Keeley boxes. Woot! 🤘🏼🥳🎸
Uncle Cliff always gives us the best toys!
Tbh i still like the roland sde delays...they just have their own flavor..
Analogue feedback path on the SDE's!
@@LeonTodd love that feature, i got a sde1000 last week and its the best delay ive heard so far
My MultDly block looks different from yours. The knobs are all layed out differently and you have some things I don't. What's up with that?
You need the latest firmware AND editor. Check the forum for both.
Thank you Leon
Does it make sense to use the Aurora delay in mono?
I've done it before and it's cool. Experiment with if and it you like it do it!
@@LeonTodd
Do you recommend for Mono setting the PAN control to 0 for all 4 delays?
Are you playing through studio monitors?
Yes
