If you do the slowpoke side quest over and over, it slowly starts to recognize you and enjoy your company, which I think is a nice touch
That is an adorable detail. Like how kids get used to a regular babysitter.
I never understood why Regice wasn't located closer to Shoal cave as it has ice types.
actually, Regice was the best as it was the hardest to find out of the three.
luis cortazar Yes, it makes more sense. It even has a frozen cave at the basement of the cave.
Who remembers carrying around those big ass guide books
Hell yeah lol
I was definitely carrying around the big cheatcode book.
My closet is full of them.
I loved the regi “riddle” as a child. I always read the instructions and I wondered why the braille alphabet was in the end of the game booklet. When I stumbled across the braille in game, my 8 year old ass immediately knew what to do. :D I must say I miss these kind of things, but with the internet it wouldn’t work like that anyway.
But then next generation they said using the flute to get god would be too confusing to there gamers lol
I never had the booklet but i did have this dictionary/limited encyclopedia which happened to have Braille. I felt like a genius when i figured it out
Yeees
Peasants. Bask in my presence, for I decoded the regi puzzle WITHOUT the booklet (I lost it like a normal 11 year old) and without internet to help me out. All I had to go on was the little plaque under the Regi champer in the rapids route which was obviously "Dive here". (The "e" symbol was used three times, confirming that a letter was used thrice). Armed with 6 letters, I decoded the entire thing alone. Took a couple hours, felt like a literal tomb raiding god. The other pokemon "legendary/mythical riddles and puzzles" were never the same... Lol.
@@talamata3049 That's amazing! Good job finding a clever alternate solution!
You're lucky the code was a simple font change though. If there was any other layer or two to the code then they easily could have prevented anyone without the booklet from decoding things.
Drifloons Pokedex entry states: Stories go that it grabs the hands of small children and drags them away to the afterlife. It dislikes heavy children. This is why the girl is missing
2:31 - I aways keep the Spearow and give a Magikarp to the NPC instead. The messenge is the most important, any pokémon with the mail is accepted by the npc.
I always do that when I'm playing gold/silver/hg/ss.
Same here, I'll catch any trashmon on the area and move the item then trade lol
Marcus Vinicius de Alvarenga why would you wanna keep a Spearow anyway?
@@Usario321 aerial ace is a really good flying move
@Steven Turner Spearow is available on route 42 and is accessible as soon as you get your starter and Hoothoot is available on route 31 at night so Pidgey isn't actually the only flying type available at that point in the game
given that you leave your hometown to finish the pokedex isn’t the entire pokémon league challenge basically a side quest?
"He'll give you a sparrow." Me: "Spearow."
Sparrow, like thirty times.
Jack Spearow
THANK YOU. somebody pointed it out. I got triggered by it
i found that out years ago. in my cristal edition, i took the mail from the spearow and gave it to some other weak pkmn. than i walket to that other guy and still got the tm. (i think it was dreameater. not sure about it) so you can actualy have both 😅
I kept the spearow
I know the Spearow quest on such a nostalgic level that I specifically remember getting that Spearow, never training it, and left it at the Day Care until it was level 99 by accident LMAO since then I always name my Spearow/Fearows the name Kenya.
I've been binging hella nuzlockes lately, and have seen that often for a Spearow. Never put it together. 🤦
The hoenn regi quest was my favorite I got a book on braille in the library to finish it. I was one of the few of my friends to find it.
That moment when you are told there was a braille dictionary at the end of the game booklet
Same!
Juanjo Tur wait really?
Juanjo Tur WHAT. WOW.
Do you like the new two Regis?
I've done every hoenn game's sidequests since its my fav region
The Gen 3-4 wait was so long, explored every corner of the games multiple times lmao
me too, the steven battle, the regis, and also catching groudon and kyogre, but i didnt complete the frontier badge quest becouse it was so hard
Kami no Natsu same here hoenn is the best. Even diving and waterfalls
@@owen1994 facts !
Mine too. I'm actually stuck on gen 3. Quit playing because my family can't afford a Nintendo DS. Years later now that I graduated and have a job, I'm planning to finish all the games I missed hehe.
The sevii islands were my favorite part of leaf green and fire red. So many interesting areas and the johto music sounded so good redone in those games.
Believe me no one literally no one missed the regis side quest
sallah correct :)
I did when i was a kid because i cant understand it
I did cause As a kid cause I was to dum for the puzzles
Yeah I did that too. Yeah wh-who doesn't do that haha right
Ok this is stupid😅
I got through that side quest and my game was in Korean. It was terrible. Didn't understand anything
The Regis side quest will always be the greatest feat pokemon has done for the legendaries. It was fun to learn a new language that I didn’t know existed at the time and to see braille for the first time was so interesting. The fact that you have to go to the library check out a book or write the dots with the letters down was like a expedition in itself. It’s easier now which I don’t mind but to learn something while trying to find these three Pokémon was way ahead of it’s time.
I would've loved to Battle Oak
Same
Poketips has a video on how you can do it. It's done using a similar process to the mew glitch.
Oak should've been put back into the game for Fire Red/Leaf Green or AT LEAST for Let's Go Pika/Eevee
Preach
Fun Fact: You can complete the Kenya side quest and get the TM for Rest, and also keep Kenya the Spearow by taking the Flower/Grass mail off of Kenya, putting it on a different Pokémon, and giving that Pokémon to the napping man instead. This is a much better option in Gen 4 than Gen 2, as Kenya has Arial Ace. A great move to have on a flying type this soon.
Love how after 20+ years I'm still learning new things about pokemon
I'll use it in the next nuzlocke, thanks.
I'm so fobbing that guy off with a lvl 1 rattata. 😂
Wouldn’t technically everyone have missed a side quest that’s not in the actual games, but only the coding? Is hacking the game a new side quest? Lol
The Sevii Islands Sidequest is 1st offered to you after you defeat Blaine in FireRed & LeafGreen. Then after that sidequest is completed & you get the National Dex you can start a 2nd Side Quest that involves getting the Ruby & Sapphire.
I remember taking that spearow who’s name was Kenya. I added it to my team, brought it all the way through the game, and returned it to the guy after having beaten the league
I honestly never really cared too much for the Spearow line. I might have used the Kenya for a few battles, but I typically ditched it into a PC and forgot about it, using Pidgeot or Noctowl instead. I'd keep it for the boosted Exp, in case I ever decided to use it, and give the NPC some other random common Pokemon I caught holding the mail, but ended up never really using it.
My fav quest was from HeartGold/Silver at the Ruins of Alph if you had an Arceus from Diamond/Pearl, Cynthia would take you somewhere for Arceus to create Palkia/Dialga/ Giratina. Cool scene
It's that eerie one
I remember that when Arceus was creating a goddamn egg. He was like hey kid want sum Google image and the satanic cult haha
@@malyteusz555 everything about arceus is eerie, this thing looks like it's incapable to feel emotions and even his battle theme creeps me out.
Funny, that side quest never actually happened. There was to be an event item given out for that quest to trigger, but it was canceled just before release. Any Arceus from before 'Legends Arceus' is a hacked one. Unless I'm missing out on some kind of Arceus handout in between those games... the side quest does sound really cool though.
@@MLPIceberg Yeah I used the Wi-Fi glitch to receive the flute from a mystery gift. The event is legit in diamond/pearl which lets you battle a legit Arceus at lvl 80. Then transfer through a trade to heart gold/soul silver. Awesome event.
him: the slowpoke side quest gives nothing. me: ITS FOR MONEY MAKING
Without it the professor oak challenge would literally be impossible
Fun fact: you can get both the TM and the spearow. You just got to transfer the mail to another pokemon, once you go to the other NPC he'll take the mail and give you the tm and won't take your pokemon.
I love the sevii island. Brings back a lot of memories
I was totally expecting Sevii islands in lets go. Severely disappointed in how let's go turned out
Played the game when it was first release, using my GBA.. But up until now i still don't get the purpose of those empty chambers and the the uknown quest.
Lunar Wolf dude same I was so damn mad because I had lost my fire red version years ago and I thought it would be amazing to see the islands in HD but nope.
I wish they would make a Pokemon game for adults which has difficult puzzles, real world prerequisites, side quests based on PoKedex entries which give you hints as to how certain Pokemon can be located rather than just finding them in the grass if that isn't in their nature, etc. It just feels like everything is given to you instead of it being an adventure in a world with unique Pokemon and personalities. Like what if a Pokemon that likes to be hidden in grass prefers to flee unless you cut the grass surrounding where you found it, or if running around grass startles a Pokemon and it can only be found if you stand still in the grass, with more complex ideas for legendaries instead of just finding them at the end of a cave. This franchise peaked with the regi puzzles.
Back in GSC I got the gift spearow, put the mail item on my Suicune and gifted it. The NPC took the Suicune and was like “yo cheers for my mail lmao bye” and I reset the game instantly.
Lol that sucks. If I remember it correctly in the remakes if you put it on a random pokemon the npc will just take the mail.
Half of these aren't even sidequests.... they're just interactions in the games...
And somehow we didn't mention a ton of sidequests like:
- Shuckle from Gen 2
- Chasing down Suicune in Crystal
- Battling Red in Gen 2
- The crashed/sunken ship in gen 3 (close to Slateport, forget the actual name of the ship)
- Chasing down Mesprit in gen 4
- Scott's battle frontier challenges in Emerald
...and that doesn't even get into the myriad of actual sidquests in gen 5/6/7/8. These are just the earlier games before they became more common...
But instead "Sevii Islands".... you mean *the postgame?* The literal postgame? That's a sidequest?
My brother in Christ do you know what "sidequest" means?
The nice thing about the spearow quest is that if you put the mail on a different Pokémon and talk to the guy, he’ll take the mail but say it’s not a Pokémon he remembers and gives it back to you. Though, not sure if it’s the same in gold/silver
You sure it's not heartgold? I remember being able to give it back in my last play through, and in crystal you don't even give it back to him the sleep guy takes it
I could imagine that Regice would completely decimate Drake’s team. With the Dragon type being special back in the day, and Regice having extremely high Special Defense, plus the type matchup.
Earthquake.
@@knightandrey4564 Why would earthquake matter at all...?
@@cutecombo8496 stab against it. Like rock slide or flamethrower
3:02 it is possible to catch a wailord. 1% chance by surf at route 129
In the seven mysteries thing its actually a myth~ish thing in japanese schools
I kinda know about it because of the anime toilet-bound hanako-kun
:3
NOBODY missed the regis quest, very curious as to how in the fuck the first person figured it all out though lol
Gamefreak: in r&s here's a huge checklist to get the regi!
Also Gamfreak: using the flute to get god is too confusing!
I trained up that damn spearow and it was one of the only 3 pokemon I used along with Red Gyarados and Typhlosion and then I accidentally gave it back to the NPC. Was so mad as a kid. My team could never defeat Lance. I was left with a 69 Typhlosion, 51 Red Gyarados, 33 Normal Gyarados and a like 20 something Noctowl. Ahahahaha
I used to do that when I was a kid too, I only train one or two Pokemon to defeat the League 😭
Poor you. You could have attached the mail to another Pokémon and gave that one instead. You could have kept the Spearow that way.
@@Leto85 I know that now 😭😂 I didn't even know how I got it in the first place I could barely read 😂
@@jpbyrne246 Haha, I had that same problem, but in my case English was my second language.
I really loved the sevii islands, i feel so disapointed after playing lets go pikachu because it feeled really empty without the islands
"let me tell you about secret quests"
Then proceeds to mention every well known quest in pokemon lol
I didn't know any of them! I even remember getting to the islands in Emerald and Ruby and being completely lost.
you can also take the mail from the spearow, catch a random pokemon you don't care about, give the mail the to the pokemon you don't care about and give that pokemon that's holding the mail to the npc character
During when he is on the spearow quest take a shot every time she says sparrow instead of spearow
Would be nice if they had some riddles in game to make it a bit more interesting like the old gen. It was so cool
@RuffledRowlit With the Spearow quest from Gold/Silver, you don't actually have to deliver Kenya to the recipient in order to complete the quest, just the mail it is holding. So, if you wanted to keep the Spearow and still complete the quest, you could simply catch a random Pokemon, like Sentret for example, take the mail from the Spearow, give the mail the Spearow was holding to it, and then give that Pokemon holding the mail to the recipient. This will complete the quest, giving you the rewards you would have received had you simply given the Spearow instead. I see people do this all the time so they could keep Spearow/Fearow as their early flying type, as it is superior, offensively-speaking anyway, to any other flying type obtainable in the Johto region until much later. I could be mistaken, as I have not played HG/SS in a long time, but I believe this also works in the remakes as well.
Man post game stuff in old games really helped
Believe it or not but as a kid i found out about the regis myself. Took me over 2000 playing hours to unraffle that mystery. Biggest accomplischment till this day
Same
I remember same for those Side quest Bring back memories playing Pokémon 👌👍❤️
If you give any random pokemon the mail you can keep the spearow and get the tm with the other npc
My personal favorite is the eeveeium side quest from both sun & moon versions in which you go around battling trainers who specialize in the evolutions of Eevee, I won't say what happens with each of them but after doing so you battle the giver of the quest & once that is done you get eeveeium Z, this side quest is fun, decently challenging at lower levels & has some fun lore moments & one Of the time pokemon makes a pretty dark plot for a character apart of it but it was one of the few I went out of my way to do
In 97 my older sister was dating a nerd and he cracked the mew code for me. I was a legend on the playground showing it off to everyone
7:53 the beldum’s in sapphire and ruby too
Thank you mah boi Ruffled, i very enjoyed this video and can not wait for the next one! Lets get this video to 1000 likes!!
The second one isn't actually an either/or choice (at least not in HG/SS. I don't recall exactly how it went in G/S). You only agreed to deliver the LETTER, not the SPEAROW. So if you want to keep both, all you have to do is store the Spearow in a box, take a pokemon that you caught just for this, attach the mail to it and then deliver that other pokemon. Done
You can keep the Spearow and still complete the quest. The mail is the important part. You can take it off the Spearow, put it on any throwaway common, and deliver that. Lots of people did that to gain an additional ID for the Loto.
Dang wish I knew this sooner.
@@kreevisful - Heh. At least you know now. Better late than never?
Pokemon ultra sun and ultra moon have a weird sidequest regarding how to get the power belt and bulk up.
A black belt is standing with a incineroar at the royal avenue. if you listen to his story he tells you he was strong until a Machamp showed up and defeated him. If you have Acrobatics so his Incineroar can learn it he gives you the belt. The next part is important. Moments later another black belt trainer with a Machamp is standing outside talking how his Machamp started losing because the Incineroar knows Acrobatics now. He'll give the TM for Bulk Up if have a Coba Berry (weakens flying damage)
Essentially you just fueled their ongoing rivalry and none of them are realizing it.
After having the original Pokémon Silver and Crystal, 20 something years later I only discovered the Kenya quest this year from watching a UA-cam video.
"Side quest without using any hack" "first quest is Prof Oak battle using a HACK OR GLITCH" LMAO
With the spearow sidequest: If you trained it long enough and finally want to deliver it, the guy says something like that his spearow liked me much more than him and i should keep it.
This Was sooo long ago, and i cleary remebered it lol
Also for the Spearow side quest. You don't Have to give him the spearow. You can take the mail from the spearow and give it to another pokemon to deliver it
*makes video on quests you may have missed*
First one is literally unreachable without hacks
Depending on how you define hack, you don't need to hack the game. You just have to perform a fairly simple glitch (I consider glitches and hacking two different things).
@@lisahenry20 that's true, but either way it wasn't meant to be accessible and it's not supposed to be apart of the retail release of the game
The cool thing about the spearow quest is that you can give the mail to a different pokemon, and the person who'd normally take the spearow just goes "hey this isn't the pokemon! I'll just take the mail though" and you keep the spearow AND the TM
I did that used this as a fearow on my final team
During the Regis’s bit he forgot to mention that as a kid people had to learn braille to translate the writings
You missed so many side quests inn this video, helping the electric gym leader inn hoen with that electric area, eevee side quest inn ultra sun and moon, lunaton and solrock side quest inn ultra sun ultra moon(original sun and moon as well I think) gen 5 chyntia battle after the elite four. The landorus hidden quest, black city and white forrest battle facilities, wich reward you with a shiny pokemon. Gen 4 heatran side quest, gen 2 getting the gym leader numbers. The unown report riddles, daimond and pearl unown side quest to get ! And ? Unown. Not to mention mirage Island. Alot off lost oppertunities here.
Also, the girl got kidnapped by drifblom, the pokedex entry off it is my proof xD
I remember doing that side quest with the spearow-mail and deciding to release the pokemon because why not
The really old professor oak glitched battle actually gives Professor Oak not just the pokemon you and your rival left behind but they are also LEVEL 100's The true highest level pokemon trainer NPC in the franchise. Cynthia you can go sit in the corner. Level of madness in terms of level scaling.
There is a kid in pokemon emerald that owns 6, lvl100 pokemons, including a shiny Metangross and it was a fun battle. (I just forgot where to find that boy)
I have a very funny history with the Regi sidequest, I actually know it by heart because someone told me about it a decade ago, funny thing is, I don't remember who or how they did it. Someone told me this sidequest and it's been in my memory for a very long time now, it's the oldest gaming related memory I have.
I've done the sparrow quest and I never noticed the misspelling. XD
You can keep the Spearrow and still complete the quest by giving the mail to a caterpie or something you don't want.
Great video man!
Could you do one comparing the different post - game quests?
3:03 can We get an F for Wailord's spine?
F
Also , love the profile pic
I remember when I got my Kenya spearow I thought “If I give this to the guy, I’ll probably lose it.” So I took the mail from it and put it on a magikarp the character went “huh I don’t recognise that pokemon” and I got the tm and they didnt even take the magikarp.
Another one that could've been mentioned was Mirage Island
The Slowpoke side quest in Let’s Go is useful for gaining a Big Pearl once per day to then sell at a Pokemart.
"Straight forward" he says talking about the Regis in emerald. Yeah, if you could read braille.
Seriously that is some of the most cryptic instructions ever!
It was in a bunch of mags Nintendo made money on. Not all of them were Nintendo themselves, but it was fan stuff they for money out of
@@WhatHappenedIn-vt3vq ok. But still if you didn't have that you couldn't possibly do that without a guide.
For the fire red and leaf green I got that before battling the elite four but it was 1-3 then after beating the elite four I got the rainbow pass and access to 4-7
I vaguely remember taking the letter from Kenya and giving it to some random Pokémon and delivering the letter with that Pokémon, so I kept Kenya and got the reward.
Just breed Spearow with Ditto - so you get a new Spearow and then complete the quest.
For the spearow quest you can take the mail off of it and give it to another Pokémon like a wild hoothoot then just give the hoothoot away and keep the spearow.
about the spearow:
the only reason to keep that spearow over one that you can catch in route 46 between the starting town and the second one is that the given spearow gains boosted xp like a traded pokemon. AND you can complete that side quest while keeping the spearow. just give the mail to a normal spearow and give that one instead. but honestly, the tm is nightmare... which sucks.
Not mentioned any looker missions, arresting team plasma members, team flare and stopping charon in platinum.
1:55 are u sure it “halahallahed” the grass mail?
In gen 2, you can actually take the mail from the Spearow, put it on another pokemon, and complete the delivery to get the TM. I dont know if you can do it in the remakes.
You can also give the grass mail to another pokemon and keep the sparrow and get the items
I miss the Sevii Islands. They didn't return in the Gen II remakes or Let's Go so like Orre and pretty much all of the spin-off regions, they'll be lost to time because GameFreak and Nintendo probably won't bother with it.
Regice should’ve been located in the ice part of the shoal cave yk
Love it how you show the german cover of emerald at 7:35
the battle with oak was probably gonna be the champion fight/ after fight with blue/ or a postgame fight
I remember my dad printing out the braille alphabet at work because we didn't have a printer at home.. Good old times :)
This guy is really doing his best to extend the video to a min of 10min
If you ever had a second hand copy of emerald you could fight the secret base and many legendary ( my second hand copy had baton pass ninjask into rayquaza) and the game glitched and you could play it even after deleting the save file
I don't remember that vending machine side quest...I should try that!
Shout out Kenya. That free sparrow is a perennial part of my gen 2 playthrough teams. Beat Red THEN deliver a lvl 85 90 fearow 😂. That NPC has one of the strongest Pokemon in game history 😂
You can also move the mail on another pokemon, at least in the remake, and still get the TM while keeling the pokemon.
I remember doing the Relicanth/Wailmer thing for the Regis in Gen 3 but I genuinely don't remember how I figured it out. Definitely didn't figure it out on internet back then cause I doubt it was there lol. As Bo Burham said it was just some message boards 🤣 I think it was old school just a friend telling me how to start those quests.
Maybe you did it like me, by noticing that the brail alphabet is on the last page of the manual that came with the game.
@@brotbrotsen1100 yeah it was something like that, I didn't know the brail but my friend helped me read it cause his cousin told him or something? The like ridiculously buried side quests is something I miss about older gens of Pokemon, but a big part of that is that we didn't have the internet back then lol
White 2 and black 2 side quest with Yancy?
5:57 "Seven Mysteries"
Me: *HANAKO KUN*
Yassss
Anyone ever think of evolving that Spearow into a Ferrow & then doing the delivery? Would it still work? Been forever since I played those games & I always went right through with the Delivery.
Aas long as it still holds the mail the quest will be completed. The mail is the key not the pokemon itself.
You could do the clone pokemon glitch to keep the sparrow & still get the tm.
when i battled steven in emerald i just taught rayquaza fire blast and spammed it the entire battle lol
I remember searching up for the braille thing to catch regis
oak really said: 🩸 🩸
👄
With the Regi's, you probably ought to have included the RegiGigas quest as well...which requires the other regis
Side quests side quests the ones that are easy and turns out to be crazy
