Play in the lockup is not normal. But it can occur in some examples. That could be said about lockback models from many major makers. As you say, if it's minimal, it shouldn't be a concern. But if you can evaluate before buying, it would be best to choose one which is tight, with no play....obviously.
It's a beautiful knife for sure, but the Buck 112 model is based on and came after the Buck 110 so I'd say the 110 is actually the most classic traditional folding knife of all time rather than the 112
