- Although never a Grand Champion, Joe Alvarez was the winner for several weeks in Tawag ng Tanghalan. He joined Johnny de Leon's radio show called Operetang Putol-Putol with star singers such as Nora Aunor, Edgar Mortiz, Perla Adea and Espie Fabon. He also did comedy shows and was a mainstay in the TV program Bahay-Bahayan.

thanks for this one wilbert!,,, yeah, walang kaduda-duda,,joe alvarez in his prime,,i liked the"ugh"! at 0.48 seconds into this vid..ha!ha! and then again at 2:03 minutes..ha!ha! ulit!! one of the very few talents who came out of tawag ng tanghalan..very nice voice and tone control..pinoy pa??!!

..bahay-bahayan days??? IBC channel 13 kung hindi ako nagkakamali,,yung isang mainstay like joe alvarez on that show?? never heard anything from him eversince..his name..?? zernan manahan..i think gina alajar was also on that show before..
Jingle and Frankie Navajo ,Jr.were in that show. Beth Manlongat not Gina Alajar. My favorite show in the early 70's.
