This is old school IHRA style, the Ford Boss motors loved the extra cubes, that's why you see Roy Hill, love this style, check out the trap speeds, great stuff!
Chevy never made a hemi. This engine is a copy of a Ford Kaase head. The IHRA told J Kaase if he did not show Sonny L his hemi heads they would factor anyone running his engines. So, in reality that Chevy has a Ford design under the hood. LMAO
“Mountain Motor Pro Stock feature engines in excess of 820-cubic inches with nearly 2,000 horsepower. We don't run the high RPM the 500 ci teams do. They can run 10,500 rpm, and we are only about an 8,200 rpm engine. The bore and stroke combination is a lot different. Unlike the current rules for the 500ci NHRA Pro Stock class, Mountain Motor Pro Stocks can still use carburetors or fuel injection, and that means hood scoops,…” Definitely is a pretty cool and unique class, I hope it grows, as it’s still a relatively new class using the older pro stock formula.

What is really sad is the stands are empty. The NHRA just keeps favoring certain brands and teams. FYI- the Chives in this class are all running Jon Kaase heads. Saw Kaase give the interview where he was forced to tell Sonny L how he did his heads. Even factory x NHRA is already setting the table for the Chevies to win. I quit going 15 years ago and so have all my friends. Next the sponsors will realize their money would do better spent elsewhere. NHRA is already dead, they just don't know it!

I've been a Pro Stock fan since the early 70's when the formula was a maximum effort engine in a stock appearing body. How far we've strayed...and I no longer follow drag racing.

@brenthill3241 It sounds so generic. So many V8 engines rev to 8000. From Pro Mods to Top Fuel. The only variation is really the decibel level. There's not a lot that rev up to the moon in drag racing. Mostly motorcycles. A car doing it? Now that's impressive engineering.
@@ricktaylor3748Rarely do you hear a crossplane V8 rev to 10000. Not even NASCAR does it. That's why the 500ci class sounds so different from the rest of the V8s in drag racing.
Be sure to like the video if you enjoyed for more drag racing content!

I'm not familiar with this category, but I like it...why limit engine displacement to 500 cid given how popular pro modified cars are ?

Does anyone remember the days when you could tell a Camaro from a Mustang? This is so sad.
They're back with hood scoop?
It’s mountain motor pro stock, so it’s a different class than regular pro stock
They still run carburetors in mountain motor pro stock

Do the Fords have an ACTUAL FORD ENGINE ?!
In this class, I don’t believe so. All Hemis of different sizes.
900 plus cubic inch 429 BOSS style ford engines .. Roy Hill has never ran anything but Fords
@@williemoon7522 ???WHAT???
do the chevys?
WAIT WAIT WAIT...What the fuck are 2 mustangs doing in the first pair????? This is the cookie cutter mountain motor pro stock Camaro class???
Their ladder is based on qualifying

Whatever happened to the Stock in Pro Stock? These are funny cars without Nitro.

@mchristr this 4 across racing? Boring. I watch the gassers race now.

Doesn't sound as good as the 500s.
They don’t rev as high, but the ci on them are impressive!
Actually I much prefer the heavy sound of the big engines.
Originally Pro Stockers revved in the range of the Mountain engines of today.
They sound better than the 500 ci engines. That hollow thump is so cool. Some engines are 959 ci.
