I wish I had heard Steve in person. Now I am listening to this great accordion player and his band as much as I can on you tube. I am so thankful these are on here where I can learn of him, and enjoy his great polkas. He was taken way too soon. I guess they needed a polka band in Heaven.

I knew both Steve and his Dad personally as they were from Whitewater, WI where i went to College, and also play Cleveland style. Verne, his Dad, would play for the College crowd on Thursday nites, packing The Huddle! Verne was also a great song writer. Their music was so dancable. Also standing behind him in this video is one the best accordion players in the world, Ted Lange, Mollie Bee’s husband. They shared the stage at Frankenmuth, and he just picked up Steve’s accordion and played fill for Steve!

I was fortunate to play with Verne on his early trips to Northern MN. I later played button box with both when Steve came. Both super people and musicians. R.I.P. in polka heaven!

What a loss to the polka world. I saw him a few times when he came to the Pittsburgh area.
