- Jason takes on his good friend Nick in a battle of wits and luck in this beginner backgammon playthrough. The gameplay might not have always been perfect, in fact there are probably plenty of blunders to be found, but it sure was fun. Thanks for watching!

A few people have asked what camera setup I use for my overhead shots, so to anyone wondering, this is what I use. The below links are Amazon affiliate links.
Sony FX30: amzn.to/3TkL2ow
Sony 15mm f1.4: amzn.to/3JM2rmM
Light Stand x2: amzn.to/3JJUMpj
Crossbar: amzn.to/404Om9K
Super Clamp: amzn.to/3yK8xxU
I'm going through XG after the fact and there's a few illegal moves. 😅My bad for not catching them during the game. Bonus points if you spot them 😀 I'll do my best to clean that up for future playthroughs! Cheers everyone!
Cannot believe I sat thrilled for 40 minutes watching a Backgammon game...
Hello! 😂 the game will suck you in! Glad you stopped by! 😃
Thanks for another quality upload.
The thing I appreciate most is being able to hear what it's like to play a game on the unique cork surface.
It sure is a fun experience. It's definitely unique, but not something I see myself getting sick of ever. The dice definitely spin more, but it really adds to the drama. Good stuff! Thanks for watching! 😀
Your checker play is amazing! Especially you chose 21/15 21/16* when you roll 65. This play is called “double falcon”.
Hi Michi! I was wondering about that 65. I've heard you reference "double falcon" in commentary with Nick Blasier before and I always forget to look it up in the moment. I just watched a video you did on it for more clarification. I love all the naming conventions! Thanks for stoping by. Cheers! 😀
@@blunderblots Wow, you watched my video! Thank you! The quality of your videos is fantastic.
@@MichyBG Yeah, they’re very helpful! I really enjoy your videos where you and your opponent talk and explain your thought process the whole match!
Thank you very much for the kind words! The videos are a lot of fun to make. 😊
My brother just bought me my first backgammon set for my birthday, having always wanted to play! It has somewhat surprised me how simple it is to learn, yet how involved strategically/tactically it is to master.
Having surfed the net on "How to play", this video is the first to give me a comparable level of experience playthrough (if not 6 months more advanced than myself! 😄). It's great to see Nick physically counting out his dice roll points, instead of the rapid point movement of a more advanced player! It gives you a clearer understanding of his move strategy. (Please tell me he had a strategy! )😁
Great new channel, with a quality level of production . Look forward to to seeing the channel flourish!👍
Hi Gavin! Welcome to the world of backgammon! That's the best thing about it. Easy to learn/teach, but there's so much depth to it. 😀
I'm glad you found the video helpful. Talking with Nick after the match, he definitely had a few things in mind. 😉 Thank you for the kinds words and thanks for watching! Cheers!
My wife bought me a cheap backgammon board for Christmas and we've been playing daily. Really loved this video and hope you do more.
Hi GrizzlyBearSims! It's such an enjoyable game. I got hooked on it this past summer and play on the regular with my wife as well. There will definitely be more of these coming out. 😀
Thanks for watching and cheers!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I LOVE THE DREAMSICLE BOARD!
It's an easy board to love! 😀 Thanks for watching!
Great production quality! Glad to see new creators promoting the game. Hope you achieve your goals!
Hi Alexander! Glad to be here and thank you for the kind words! Cheers! 😀
I know almost nothing about backgammon but damn that was fun to watch !!!
Also those pieces look delicious !!!
Great choice of sets. It looks and sounds amazing
Hi checkrazor76! Thanks for watching and the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😀 It's such a fun game in so many aspects, and so easy to learn too. Highly recommended!
The pieces are awesome! They look like big pieces of orange candy, and I love it. Cheers!
The look on your face at 16:41 is every backgammon player ever waiting on their opponent to figure out they rolled a joker! 😅😅😅😅
Hah! So true! 😅 Cheers! 😀
Good video! Very entertaining and well edited and commentated. It's a pretty difficult game to master and I'm definitely not a master even after 22 years of playing it. It's true that backgammon is fun even if you're losing. The randomness of the dice keeps it exciting.
Hi Jim! Thanks for watching and for the kind words! 😀 22 years! That's awesome! I'm glad you share in my opinion of it being enjoyable even when losing. I don't ever see myself getting sick of it. Once I can get a handle on the doubling cube, I bet it will become "double" the fun 😉 Sorry, I couldn't resist that pun, haha.
Thanks again for watching and cheers! 😀
Awesome stuff Jason! Thanks for the BG action vid. Cheers
Thanks for watching and cheers to you as well! 😀
No doubling cube brought forth? That's the fun part of Backgammon.
Hi Chris! I agree and I definitely want to start implementing it! I guess at this point, most doubles are just going to be blunders, haha. I don't have a good grasp on it yet. That's all part of learning it I suppose. Any advice in that regard would be greatly appreciated! 👍😀 Thanks for watching!
@@blunderblots Marc Olsen has a series called 24 Points of XMAS. In that series he touches briefly on cubing. He also wrote a book called Cube Like A Boss.
Thanks, for the recommendations Chris! Hopefully it won't be long before you start seeing some cube games! 😀
This was a fun vid to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! 😀
Very good production quality.
Hi Ian! Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching! 😀
Great video! Its amazing how you think you are winning and then BOOM you lose!!
Haha! So true! I honestly thought I had it for sure towards the end, and as you said.... BOOM 😁 It was such a fun game! 😀 Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers!
Good commentary, im learning myself and started playing against the clock
Hi Geoff! Thank you and thanks for watching! Welcome to the backgammon community! 😀I haven't used the clock yet, but I'm hoping too soon. The next step is bringing in the doubling cube! How's the clock going for you?
Cheers!
Can't say enough good things about this video; I watched the whole thing straight through. Really enjoyed the clean banter and just having a good time. The music helped foster a great atmosphere also. Looking forward to more of these (I never hit the notification bell for content creators but I've done that with you)!
Just curious what kind of camera you are using and what kind of stand to position it over the table so well etc.? I'm looking at getting a Crisloid board myself and doing an unboxing video and maybe recording some of my own games for memories/personal study. Thanks and great job!
Hi J H! Thank you so much for the kind words, it means a lot! 😀 I'm glad you enjoyed the video. There will certainly be more coming. They take a lot of time to make otherwise I'd crank them out every week, haha.
The top down camera in this video was a Sony A7 iii, but I've done top down videos with my phone as well. 👍 I used a photography backdrop crossbar attached to a light stand on each side for the top down. You can get away with one stand with an arm but the two stands gives more stability. I hope that helps!
Crisloid boards are great! I'm loving mine and I'm so glad I went with them. If you get one and post a video, please share as I'd love to watch! Thanks for watching and cheers! 😀
@@blunderblots Thanks for the info! I also forgot to mention after watching this video I had a craving for orange juice for some reason...or an orange Tootsie pop! Board looks awesome 😎
@@JH-mt5bt No problem! And I can understand that. The checkers up close honestly look like big pieces of orange candy, haha.
Nick let you off a potential gammon..or did you trick him with the handshake? what a great friend 😂 love your board ❤
Hi Burgers! I definitely tricked him with the handshake 😉
Thanks! I love it as well. It’s a great board! Thanks for watching! 😃
Neat and fun video - Run with this! 🎲👍🎲
Hi fungi fibbs! Glad you liked it! I'll definitely be doing more, so stay tuned. 😀 Thanks for watching!
I don't think Nick Blasier would've been able to find any sub-optimal plays! 😉
World class play all around for sure! 😂
Love Nicks channel. He's really cranking out the content. I picked up his book and I'm excited to jump into it. Using the cube is definitely something I want to venture into more.
Thanks for watching! 😀
@Somedutcher By the way, did you get your new Crisloid board yet? 😁
@@blunderblots Oh yeah, his content is great and I watch almost all his vids. It's a bit early for me to start his book since I'm still at the basics using books as Opening Concepts and From basics to Badass.
@@blunderblots No not yet, the board is finished but one of the custom checkers was nothing like the mockup and really not to my liking. I was hoping to get close to your white checkers with a hint of orange but they came out completely dark orange for the first batch and a bit creamy for the second. It just didn't match the rest of the set (the rest looks freaking awesome btw).
Crisloid has been nothing but helpfull and do great communications and they are gonna try a second pour for the checkers. Hope the new batch is gonna work!
@@Somedutcher That's kind of where I'm at. Opening Concepts was my favorite book so far. Marc Olsen's was also very good, but I really enjoy how Michy teaches. 😀
Great video. Whats the name of the board? Thx
Thanks Brylant! It's a Crisloid Anchor Orange board. Cheers! 😀
@@blunderblots Cool board. In Europe we have quite a small selection and importing from the USA is quite expensive. I just ordered a silverman&co 19" from UK- hope it will be nice to play on it too. Greetings 🖐🏻
@@Quider2 Thank you! Yeah, importing can definitely be a bummer. 🙁 I've never played on a Silverman&Co but I've heard good things about them. It'll be great! I'd love to hear all about it when you get it! 😀Cheers!
@@blunderblots Definitely smaller and cheaper than yours but as I mentioned there was not much choice 🤷🏻♂️. I will also note that it is from an American distributor for Europe that ships from the UK 🤦🏻♂️. Fortunately from what I've read it's pretty ok and when it arrives I'll let you know how it performs.
@@Quider2 It’ll be a great board to get a lot of fun games in! Yes, let me know how you like it 😃
Where can I get this board?
Crisloid. It's called Anchor Orange. Cheers!
Get Another Video Done...
I’m working on one now! This one will be a little shorter, but I’ll have another play through after that 😀
Hopefully I can get a good rhythm going and get them out faster going forward! 👍🏻
Thanks for watching! 😊
