Abandoned Project Revived! 1967 Plymouth Barracuda "Ultimate Daily Driver" Gets "Done" And Overheats

- I made the poor life decision of trading this car to my brother after neglecting it for months and leaving it for dead in the yard. So, naturally, he fixed everything wrong with it in two and a half days. It's fine, at least now it has a new lease on life. And I'm sure he'll get bored of it eventually and I'll get it back somehow. In the near future, I'll actually dig in on the Valiant project, and everything will be fine.
Hey I have one of those! It’s a little different than this one. Love the A Bodies!
Yours is just a little different 😅 some day I’ll have one that isn’t a total POS.
@@DeadDodgeGarage hey man! Yours has got character! And the potential to live forever! Nice work as always/
67 Barracuda fastback from Helena, Montana. Glad to see I am not the only one around !
Looks like brothers having fun to me. The cool 67 Barrrracuuuuda is just a bonus.
Ha! Reminds me of the time I drove my charger home about 120 miles in the rain with no wipers, headlights and maybe 30% brakes...I just tied my boot strings together and attached them to the wiper arms and did the damn thing lol
Classic. Haha. Long before UA-cam, we did that kind of super smart stuff a lot.
Jamie, it's another confirmation that no matter how hard you thrash a slant six they don't die.
Yep! I’m not sure they come from the factory with oil.
"We learned a really important lesson here, twice"
This brings back fond memories of sketchy cars back in the 80s.
OMG! I live 3200 miles away from you guys, and after watching this terrifying video, I don't feel safe anymore!!! I knew this was going to happen eventually.
🤣🤣
Haha!- lots like my brother and I just goofing around on our car projects years ago- good times!!
And I still drill a 'burp hole' in the thermostats for refills.
I just pop off a heater hose. He was being optimistic thinking he could just refill the leaking rad.
Just the state of my cars in the 80s - glad you fixed that idle
Jamie, awesome job of restoring that Cuda.
Looking forward to attending the virtual wake tonight for our fallen friend, the expensive wrench. He was always there when you needed him… until he lost his grip.
😅
I have the stud cutler for swedged drums..as well as the Swedger for installing them including the left handed one for old mopars
Maniacs of the best kind. Luv the shattering trunk - Mercan survivorism at its finest....
Nice was wondering if we'd see the daily driver cuda again soon
Sweeeet, you guys restored it! Now fix the squeaky clutch linkage…like nails on a chalkboard 😂
It’s so awful. It didn’t seem as bad before it had exhaust 😅 we tried some magic spray on the bushings to no avail.
Definitely gonna try out those nicopp brakelines on my truck, gonna get the precut set already flared w/fittings - whole kit is only like $116 at rockauto so I will have the lines on hand when the next one rusts out
My chevy drum brakes creak like that all the time, even with the proportioning valve
Awesome! They’re great. It’s the creaking for 1-2 seconds afterward as the shoes pull in that I’m really paying attention to.
LoL- I have vintage '91 tabbed Washington tags on the younger daughter's TC convertible...in NC! Permanent registration & the address is to the place here. Not been stopped yet
Awesome, good to see the cuda back again. Just fill the radiator with bars leak, guaranteed to plug everything up.😂
Off to another video. I already miss the Barracuda!
It hasn’t gotten too far. We’ll definitely do more with it eventually.
I’ve got a Holley 1920 on a 65 Belvedere and it works great!
It happens… occasionally… 😅
I'm normally a '67-68 fast top Fury guy, but I absolutely love the '67-69 Barracudas with the similar roof. I used to have a '74 Duster that had a 225 slant six with the Holley 1920. By far the worst carburetor I've ever had on any car.
I have had a lot of driver slant six cars over the years, and just about every one of them had the joke wired part way shut to get it to continue to idle. The fastback Barracuda is one of my favorite body styles of all time. They’re just beautiful.
@@DeadDodgeGarage I remember when the 67-69 fastback Barracudas were new. The first Hot Wheels car I got was a fastback '67 Barracuda. Also when I was a kid i had a snap together '69 that I would lay the pieces of the model out like an assembly line and pretend I was building the car at the factory. They are beautiful cars.
I ran into this problem years ago, they are serviced as a unit.
This is due to that the fact that the drum will have run out because when they assembled the hub to the drum and swaying the studs the assembly was machined and true after assembly SWAGING👍🏻
Also, once you’re done beating the ever living shit out of the studs to get them apart the wrong way… they aren’t likely to be straight anymore. Whoops.
For less than a 200 bucks two brothers put a Barracuda from the 60's back on the road and she's a manual . Nice job gentlemen..
~MERICA ! What an adventure. Hey I love those NiCu brake lines. I have used them for years. You can get a whole kit with fittings online for like 30 bucks. Cut and bend your own. So easy. I am putting them on my 1980 camaro project car right now this weekend too. Yeah I know it's not a mopar but it was cheap and it's pretty. Keep on doing that good stuff Jamie.
A Helena, Montana car. It never saw humidity until you brought it home.
It’s been in Washington for years, but you may well be right.
I’m sure that slip on drum won’t vibrate your fillings out, also never underestimate dodges ability to make something weird and needlessly difficult 😂😂
Might not be big hp's, but it still runs. With loose plugs. A broken carb. Off timing. No exhaust. Scavenged exhaust. Even the crumbling red wound has a heart that still beats on........... :-)
Who wants a voice over the voices.? Yes of Jamie’s boss!
Looks solid enough to be a decent project.
It really is! It’s got the quarter rot, and it’s been well beaten, but the rest of it is very, very solid. The trunk floor is flawless!
Great video! Glad to see the Barracuda is going to be driven! What I cant believe is I've been fooling with Mopars since 1978 and I've never ran across a drum swedged on like that! And I've been through 100's of them including my brother's and friends either I've been lucky enough the ones I've had were already changed or is that possibly a west coast thing or something. First thing I used to do was change out all the left hand thread studs put in right hand ones and put on mag wheels, it was easier than finding LH mag lugnuts. maybe I knocked the studs out and didn't notice the swedge? Cant believe I've never saw that! 👍 oh! I just realized this was the front, thought it was the rear I always just knocked the studs out or removed the wheel bearings on the front, major brainfart for me! Getting old!👍
Interesting. It was found on trucks, and on these wee 9” brakes. I think on the 10”, it’s usually a one piece hubbed drum? I’m not sure on that. The swedge was only used on this two piece setup to hold it together.
Great work. Sounds way better!
Thanks Jamie
When an old car pulls it’s not because something is wrong.
It’s simply because it’s calibrated for a precise turn
😅
I have found that the hood not latching can often be fixed by moving the thing it hooks into up a bit, like a quarter inch.
He did that actually - and somehow made it worse… We will address this at some point.
AWESOME....you guys are a riot....you shaved....cool.....MOPAR 4 EVER.
Did you notice that broken brake spring. No worries it'll be fine😅
I wouldn’t worry about that 😅
Thanksgiving driveway must be awesome....
“Outlaws Getting Gas.” I admit part of me wanted to watch the police body cam video of you and The Unibrother on a very different YT channel.
Haaaahaha. Nice.
I've been watching for quite awhile and quite the sundry of channels with not so legit roadway activity on wheels.
It seems as if there's an agreement with the law of Murphy that states, '...all manner of trouble may befall these operators mechanically, while on camera, and the po po will deem the lawlessness of their antics to be outside of their jurisdiction.'
I have a nice front bumper for that car if you're interested, I can even drop it off at Mainline one of these mornings
Seriously? We need that, big time… if things go to his plan, the car will be at Mainline tomorrow. Haha.
You have to clean out the passages behind the metering blocks of those 1920s. That’s how to fix them without a trash can
Something about melting out a lead plug, then replacing with epoxy afterward? I dunno, I prefer the garbage can maneuver
@@DeadDodgeGarage I’ve always dunked them in the sauce, fished a wire up there, and blew them out really well. Always worked so far.
I had to mention the 1920, why did I mention the 1920?
Self hatred? Not sure. Haha.
My favorite A body Barracuda
Mine too!
Those front brakes are groovy lol
And not the acid kind 😅
@@DeadDodgeGarage that was a great video!
The Leaning Tower of Power!
really liked thre video here but really wished we could hear your brother talking most of us couldn't !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u need to clip a good mic,. to every one in the video so we can all hear em.........
Totally understand, but I don’t even have a clip on mic for myself. I do my best during the edit to turn others’ voices up where possible. But it’s definitely a challenge. This entire show is recorded on my iPhone so it’s pretty lofi. I have every intention of improving this as time goes on - but I do all of this by myself on the go, and I have to do it the way I can.
Thanks
Jamie where did you buy that flashlight holder gizmo that was shown clamped to the shock absorber on the cuda? It looks handy
I think that came from the Mac tool truck. Honestly I don’t use it but my brother does. He’s big on magnet lights too. Let it be noted, he has lost many lights by leaving them under cars…
Id be dropping a big block in that valiant
Too much fun!
I need that rear trunk trim
Sorry, we still need it 😅
@@DeadDodgeGarage there hard to find I’ll tell you that
When I see that four door hard top impala, I always think you and your brother are going to investigate some demons (small d, not Dodges) or vampires.
Yep… that’s why he has it. Haha. In fact he had two for a while there. It might get painted black some day, but maybe not.
@@DeadDodgeGarage I understand completely. I once bought a 73 Fury Gran Coupe (but did not put giant ladder bars and chrome reverse wheels sticking four inch past the quarters on it) and put a 73 Riviera and Eldo convertible on my "will buy if i get a chance list" after watching a certain heist movie. A 73 Trans Am almost made that list, too.
As for painting,... take that Barracuda for example. A bit of parts store paint in a can thinned with mineral spirits and shot from a gun will make it a lot better "hundred footer" and help resist the damage from living in a humid environment. I found white paint lasted far longer of the three or four Rustoleum colors I tried.
PS, let me know of you see a 73 Riviera...I need to find that one room school house.
I wonder how it would run with a turbo??? :-) Torque Monster I bet. Regards from Ody Slim..
I think it would be something like “buhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHH!” Basically, nothing on the bottom end, a sudden woosh of power as the turbo spools, and then it runs out of cylinder head. Haha. We’ll find out on some slant or another soon enough…
You two are a menace. 😂
Absolutely 🤣
Holy shit, pretty impressed with the improvement after that timing adjustment! What are Colin's plans for it?
It’s his new reliable daily driver. He actually registered it today (*gasp*) and drove Henry to his first day of school, and then work. He steam washed the hood and all of the glass, and it’s starting to look too good. There is still plenty to be fixed though.
Well, you can't say you have crazy hair anymore. Your brother beats you by a long shot. :)
Seriously tho. Haha.
Im still laughing what a fun video 👍
🤣😅"Listen, I paid for every gear; I'm gonna USE every gear..."😂😁
Damn right! 😅

Great, now I’m hungry. Haha. You can always comment on videos with questions, or email me at DeadDodgeGarage@gmail.com
I’d drive it!
What transmission is in that impala, a Eaton fuller 18 speed? Lol
🤣 something like that
I love it so much.
Did you sell the dodge ram club cab w100 blue truck you had jamie sir?! Im asking because you told your brother don't hit Dave's truck?!
Yes, actually, Dave bought it back from me. Haha. We will be putting a 440 in it in the… near? Future
@@DeadDodgeGarage 440. Dana 60 front. Upgrade. Trust me. The Dana 44f will bend.
I have a slat 6 like the barracuda
Love it
The clutch spring squeak. Please.
It’s the worst noise I’ve ever heard… other than the straight manifold slant six exhaust. It’s in the Z bar pivots, and although we tried some magic spray, it resisted. Needs to come apart for lubrication.
2:43 cause it's a Chevy 🤣
#MoParOrNoCar
5:51 thank got that sticker is younger then me 🤣
6:27 ouu, 871 or 671 junkyard blower?? 😮
12:37 hot dany it's a slant six, that's super cool, that gonna be a fuel sipper when tuned right, but only good to rev to like 52-5500 max max
14:40 did someone say fishing boats and high times?
20:11 this place looks so much like eastern Cape Breton out north of the Mira's
Nooooopo! Turn the wipers off!
Hey, there’s a little rubber left on there!
Illinois draw back to nickel copper break lines are that they very easily road through if you have them rubbing the fra more or something there's some place that you don't realize
Good tip. Something to think about.
For a split second, I thought you sold a car to Charlie manson.
🤣
@@DeadDodgeGarageummmmm excuse me sir if you remember the brakes on the challenger were also stuck to the floor 😂so uh yeah hard to move it with a hard on and stuck front brakes
That thing is going to get 37mpg lol
Well I don’t know about all that. Haha. But I think 25+ is realistic.
@@DeadDodgeGarage extra 12 because just because!
18:57 Well, maybe not.
🚬
🙀🤦🏼
😅
Rain X
Words that didn’t make it to film “…where’s the Rain X?” “It doesn’t work so well when it’s already wet.”
Can u say death trap
I can - and do, all the time actually
That car is a danger to both humans and the environment!
Sooo ...how much you want for it?
😅 I think he’ll be keeping it for a while now. Something about driving to Plymouth in a Plymouth? Idk
Who wrote that song Jamie?
I was just humming that tune the other day, I'd like to get all the lyrics.
You remember the crazy chours, something like;
🎷🎶🎶🎸🎸
Driving route 66
in my Plymouth
🎻Leaving behind
a wrench I'll miss
Got a thousand
some miles maybe
left to drive my baby,
bound for a new life
in Plymouth Mass🎶🎸
