  • The Sega Saturn enjoyed a final flourish of top quality games throughout 1998 before it's death in the west. Keen to capture some of the momentum behind the Playstation hit Cool Boarders 2, Sega published Steep Slope Sliders in early 98. This video takes a closer look at what makes this boarder so unique, and the missteps of its sort-of-sequel on the Playstation, Trick N' Snwboarder.

Hello gamers! I’m Seb and welcome to my channel, Gamer’s Garden. I want to explore the stories behind often overlooked games, talented developers from years gone by and some series that are personal favourites of mine. I’m a keen collector with a focus on the 90’s and particularly, the 5th gen.
Where possible, all footage is captured from my own consoles rather than emulators. As a PAL gamer, most gameplay is captured at 25fps and all game facts should be correct to their PAL release history. Please like and subscribe to keep up with the latest content and message me on twitter if you want to get in contact. Enjoy my channel and happy gaming!

Gamers' Garden Snowboard Kids for the N64 and because thats really the only one ive played, but this looks cool. I really like the space levels and the penguin as a selectable character. Im getting this whenever I get a Saturn.

I haven't played Snowboard Kids yet. I think there's two games for the N64, don't know if the series continued. This is a great pickup for the Saturn and still pretty cheap if you get the console.

Steep Slope Sliders is the best. Its trick system emphasizes improvisation and experimentation, and perfectly predicts Tony Hawk Pro Skater. The level designs are superb, capturing the feel of roughened mountains and winter environments that feel natural. Cool Boarders and its peers just felt fake, like you were watching plastic dolls pasted onto generic backdrops. It seems to capture the feel of the culture perfectly. Yes, it’s rough around the edges, and I’d like to see a true sequel that made many improvements (tour mode, multiplayer, grinding on rails, a points system that combined tricks and time). But the core gameplay absolutely rocks. This is one of Saturn’s finest hours and a must-play for all true gamers.

I had this game as a 13-14 year old and man did I love it. The graphics were a bit basic and rough, but at the same time it had it's own identity in that regard and the draw distance is wonderful. Music was also great and the unlockables were a lot of fun and added a hidden depth to the game.

Great video. I remember having a sega flash demo for saturn with this game playable on there and I enjoyed it. Never picked the game up however in all these years but after checking out this video I actually went to ebay and bought one. Great video pal.

Nice, I've got that sega flash demo somewhere to. Glad you've got the game coming. Like I said, it's light on content but you can have a lot of fun with this one. Thanks a lot for the feedback, much appreciated.

Oh that sucks! It's excellent with the 3D pad and really sets it apart from the other snowboarding games around then. It's strange when decisions like that are made with localisation.

I think dithering is derided a lot but it should be seen on a Japanese Sega Saturn though composite on a CRT it looks transparent.
That said everything has dithering to some extent on those consoles Saturn for transparencies and the PS1 full screen dithering.
Also the game Steep Slope Sliders was much better than Cool boarders by far
