I've had my GLI for 6 weeks and I love it. It's very fun to drive, and very comfortable. I'm disappointed that they deleted the ventilated seats though. I went from an F-250 Tremor to this (talk about extreme differences!) And though I miss my truck, I wouldn't change my mind about buying this car.
@@avanishkamak9498 not as satisfying as a notchy shifter like the corolla or the civic. Some people say it's more livable, but I find notchy shifters to be ultra satisfying. Volkswagen has a softer shifter for sure.
@@glp046 I have been told by a dealer in Asheville that the ventilated seat delete is due to the chip shortage. Looking forward to getting into a manual transmission GLI but if I have to look at perforated seating surfaces and not have ventilated seats, it will drive me crazy. I guess that I will hold onto to my 2011 GTI until this chip thing is sorted out.
Just bought one for my son. I drive a Porsche Panamera BUT i have enjoyed driving his so much i am thinking of selling the Porsche and buying one for my wife and I. It is a more toss-able car and less bulk and the drivetrain is just the right amount of smooth power and fun transmission but not put you under the jail. Sporty shifting is just the right amount of fun without getting into much trouble. Very enjoyable car
This would compete with GTIs, civic SIs, and elantra Ns. And maybe the WRX? These are still a pretty rare car though. You seemed genuinely pleased. Now I have to try one.
I've never driven one, but I sat in one at a Volkswagen dealership in the showroom, and I've never forgot how comfortable I felt in there at a heavier 6'1 guy. Interior felt NICE and COMFORTABLE and looked mature and fantastic.
i just test drove one with the 7 spd dsg and i loved it. ride quality was amazing and it was such a smoother ride than the non gli jettas, only complaint is the steering wheel buttons and the paddle shifters feel cheap.
I drove both before buying my 2021 GTI. I felt that the GLI Jetta was so close, but I wanted a hatch and just always wanted a Golf GTI. The GLI is super cool though.
I have this but in the DSG. I shopped around and was all-in on the GTI, but the lack of inventory (and confidence in the dealer network in getting one) and the lack of buttons in the GTI swayed me to the GLI and I do not regret it. The base model GTI is just missing too much, but the price jump from S to SE is quite absurd.
Were the people in Wolfsburg drunk? They removed a lot of storage space. They even took out the overhead sunglasses holder! Worse, the price of the GTI climbed $3,500! No thanks.
One of the main differences between GLI and any Jetta is the addition of an independent rear suspension. It's the only level that has it. The rest deal with a very simple twist-beam non-independent rear setup, which is why they are so price-friendly.
I had a mk6 gli I loved it. It was so much fun. Dropped a intake and a blow off valve and scared a few ppl haha 😂 the manual tranny is so good! I never had a problem with that car always did the oil change on time. I miss it and I hope to get me another one soon.
I’m a first time GTI owner of a 2023 GTI-S. I love the exterior and interior (unlike the unpopular opinion of UA-cam reviewers). I don’t like the exterior of the GLI. It’s just a sedan and doesn’t stand out compared to the GTI. Plus the GTI has the new outputs of 241 HP and 273 torque.
Hey Friend!👆 Thanks for watching tell expert Michael Varewny that you were referred by me for the right strategy on our new project to participate on it..Msg direct👆✍️....
The main difference between the GLI and the GTI is that the GLI’s engine is actually from the previous generation GTI, or Mark VII.5. Even though the GLI’s engine has 228 HP vs the GTI’s 241, the GLI’s ergonomics is much more user friendly with its knobs, and buttons for controls instead of the frustrating touch sensitive controls of the new GTI. And of course, the best selling point of the GLI is that it’s a lot less expensive than the GTI. I would have to test drive both cars and determine if the GTI’s extra expense is worthwhile or not. But I would definitely never pay a markup over the GTI’s MSRP.
Before you even have to test drive both cars to see if the GTI is worth the extra money, add $1k to the GTI, cause most compact cars have a $1k premium from just going from a sedan to a hatchback not taking in account any other changes.
Gli has a bigger back seat and legroom, also comes with 225/45/18 due to larger wheelwells which makes it more comfortable for us older guys or commuters. I run 245/45/18 lowered and still no rub. Comparing this to a si or wrx/sti, the vw will have more power tune vs tune. Very underated car that makes it a sleeper.
I read that VW might actually go back to having physical steering wheel controls after all of the consumer complaints. If they actually do that for the GLI, it may be enough for me to buy one as I'm currently looking at this car and the Integra for my next daily. Did you notice a lot of rev hang in the GLI?
Good morning Sir, Thank you for your informative videos. Would you choose a VW GLI Autobahn 6-speed or a Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring 6-speed? Thank you. Merry Christmas
Like your no nonsense reviews but sometimes it gets too rushed. For ex. No mention of rear vents and/or USB...this is just an example. But sometimes taking a breath might help notice or rather show details.
The s trim gti also has volume knobs and not the touch sensitive strip that people seem to be complaining about on higher models. That's one up side to getting the base gti.
While the GLI is a deal for the money, the lowest cost GTI has a ridiculous price tag. Apart from that, IMO VW made a mistake pulling the GOLF from this market.

What? The GTI starts cheaper than the GLI for 2023... I'm very confused. GTI is objectively a better car and more performance oriented. If you can't live with the new infotainment or need more room GLI it is.
@@cooperbuch1953 this comment was written over a year ago. This was the case back when the comment was written. The reason why you see the larger price difference now is because the GLI also came out with a cheaper 40th variant for 2024 vs the Autobahn GLI which was the only model before. The 2025 GLI will not have the 40th obviously and starts at 34k or so. Similar to the GTI S price. Same for 2024 GTI and GLI if you don't get the 40th. They are less than 1k apart.
There all autobahn’s! Only the GTI has different trims. Not the gli.and your right on it being a GTI sedan. That’s how the Jetta became to be. Mystery solved 😂

The fact I have to tune mine so it doesn't lose to a Mom taking her kids to school is sad. Sad sad sad. My 2019 GLI was much better value at $28k and since then VW hasn't made any major hardware changes to the GLI other than the latest ones having the Gen4 TSI. I just purchased the GLI 40th Anniversary Edition. This is a sleeper for sure, drives amazing and has power! It's a GTI with a trunk.

Why does the sport come with fog lights and the GTI doesn't???
VW did the Jetta dirty, the GLI should be on the same level as a S4, C43 or M340i but all VW did was make a GTI with a big boot.
