Yes, I feel the same about the Revo. My first Traxxas was a Revo 2.5, then shorty after the 3.3. E-Revo is okay; that is what they should name it: E-Jato
Great stuff as always. My first rc was given to me as a gift from a regular when I bartended at the local steakhouse. He loved working on rc’s. It was a nitro t-maxx with all upgraded parts. I still have it hanging above my head right now. Doesn’t run anymore but she’s a beaut.
@ I can get it running. It has been years! But anything is possible as my wrench for my Harley has always said. Problem is, the local hobby shops here in S Cal have all gone electric. No nitro for miles. Gotta love the politics here. 😉
@ I know!!! Don’t get me wrong. I love electric. But it’s way too easy to plug n play. I really want to get back into nitro. Even for just one more car. Nothin like hearing the “ brapppppp” on a cool Sunday morning. 🏁🏎️💨
JATO stands for Jet Assisted Take Off…right? That’s what we used to hear when it came out in the early 00’s. I believe that’s even what Traxxas said. So technically the name fits for either the Nitro or the Brushless, because neither have a jet, lol. I had a Jato 3.3 when they first came out. Was ridiculously fast and I ran it into parked car tires at nearly full speed several times and watched it explode! 😂
I would get one, but I’ve already built one. And I don’t understand why they didn’t just call it a backslash because that’s what it is as far as I know. I do think that some of the new parts that they made for it are kind of cool on the VXL version. I don’t know. I didn’t buy the raptor R 4x4 either. I just bought the chassis and made an extra long backslash with a Hobbywing max8 G2 2250kv. It’s a beast. Much love to all yall. 👍🏻🤟🏻✌🏼😮
Looks exactly the one I had back in Jr high and high school I miss mine I used to run mine all the time if I had the money if you did Venmo I’d pick it up from you.
Earl I agree with what you're saying did Jada a electric car I think that's a mistake I would have been happy birthday but I just called it the four-wheel drive bandit it's just they really should have just named it the bandit it would have suited but it's Traxxas company Traxxas work 👍 Bob would love to hear your opinion more on what you think it should be
Not long before they announced the 1/8 buggy version (like Oct 24th?), Amain added a new version of the Jato 3.3. I say "new" because the paint scheme on the body is different. I went ahead and got it just to make sure I don't miss out on having a much more modern 2wd gas truck because the Nitro Rustler basically has the same layout as a RC10GT. They will never make a nitro version of the 1/8 buggy, that would mean they are actually trying to be competitive if they did that imo. Admittedly, I would like to see "newer" blood in the race market. More diversity of thought (that's the idea and hope anyway lol) is good. More design changes and adaptations. 1/8 buggies have been the same basically since that one Kyosho came out back in...the late 80s? I think that was when it did?
Real RC vehicles will always be nitro. What makes is hobby Great. Learning how to tune in a nitro engine. With this generation be lazy with electric. I wish company would get back into making newer nitro vehicles. All this is my opinion. Old-school for Life.
I am Gen X and I felt the same up until May of this year, when I got my first electric RC. The brushless electrics have more power, more speed, and better air control.
@T1Jafo brushless rc are awesome and probably better then nitro but as a hobby some love the build and wrenching more then the running of the rc car and that sometimes worth the fun for a mechanic
I will definitely be getting a VXL in 2025 ... I love it but I do think it should be a different Name ... and Nitro is loud and to much work always tuning at least hard to run here in New York
I understand your frustration with the name, but Traxxas did the same with the Revo. My first hobby grade rc was the EREVO. I only knew about the electric version at first. The automotive industry does the same. Dodge built a 4 door sedan and slapped a charger badge on it. Ford built a small truck and called it a maverick, it’s not. Big companies know that name recognition is important, and if they can make something new and put a familiar name on it, it will sell.
Worked with the C8 Corvette… don’t get me wrong I love the C8. Amazing car, but Corvette has always been a front-engine rear-wheel drive V8. I feel they should’ve called it something else but that just stuck with the name of their flagship sports car instead of giving a new name to the all new platform.
@ I feel they stayed with the LS didn’t really make the corvette an SUV still a sports car, as the jato is really a complete different rc nothing like the nitro version
I had a Nitro Stampede and a T-Maxx, (got rid of T-Maxx). Loved my Nitro Stampede though. If traxxas released THAT again, I'd be getting it! I'll pass on the new Jato due to the price. And why upur current Nitro Jato and release that?
I had a JATO when they first came out. The first JATO had the 2.5 in it. It is an awesome dirt oval truck in that form. JATO and buggy don't go together. Disappointed.
I agree with you Earl 100%! Feel like Traxxas had to do something to mirror Arrmas buggys etc. Must be a need/market for a buggy or they wouldn't have made it. But in reality, time changes everything. I remember when Pontiac came out with their GTO line, it had absolutely no resemblance to the old GTO's what so ever. Lol! The only reason why I brought up about the GTO's, is cause I have uncles, cousins, & my brother all had 65-70 GTOs back in the day. Then when they brought back the GTO, it looked like a damn Neon. Lol! You know what im saying. I wish they would have called the new buggy something else. My 1st Traxxas rc was a Tmax then I had to get the Jato. Hahahahaha! Hours of my life is gone from constantly working on those things......just to get a 10-15min run. I gave most (over 30) of my nitro rc's to my nephew a few years back. Told him if he wants them come & get them, I was running out of room. Tmaxxs, Revos, jatos, 4-tecs, Hpi's etc etc & like 10 black plastic tubs of parts also left here that day.
@@earlmoorhead5555 Traxxas will drop another RC car before Christmas, I don't think it will be new it will just be reused parts from all their existing models. Do you have a karton 6SEXB for sale??@Earl Morehead Earl Moore
1/10 scale SCTs and 1/8 scale buggies are THE SAME WHEELBASE. And honestly, the jato is the BEST equipped slash 4x4 platform vehicle. $530 and 4s. Far better deal than the slash and rustler ultimates, plastic chassis are far more durable and lighter than aluminum chassis, same for towers, a proven driveline that does handle 4s well in my experience, and the first 1/8 scale buggy with a clipless body. I think you and many others are just blinded by rage because boohoo ThAtS nOt a JatO to see how it’s actually a good car. The typhon 6s was super weak in my experience. Bent the towers and chassis quickly, motor overheated, and you can’t even fit 6s in it easily. The jato 4x4 may be 4s, but with the extra 3 pounds weight difference after batteries, I expect the Jato 4x4 to be a hell of a performer
As an owner of two TYPHONS been running and crashing for year I don’t see the same issues your talking about trust me if I did I call it out wish I could agree with that ! Any one bashing an rc can break and bend them for sure ever a traxxas but plastic in my opinion has always been light and plastic chassis are better bashers just not a buggy with low ground clearance 🤷🏻♂️
@ it’s a starter track rc you can do anything with buying it for bashing seems like something that other rc are built for and maybe a new kid looking for insight might want to be made aware of on videos like mine 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah I know. I’m just being cheap. Groceries doubled in price and it’s gotten a bit more challenging to survive lately 😂 but I will make it happen soon
There's absolutely no money in nitro. It's surprising and amazing that Traxxas has any nitro models at all, and that is not going to last forever. If you like nitro for some reason, buy them while you can. Do you know why everybody is old-school who is worried about why its called JATO? because they haven't sold any of them for years, it's a great name and they are trying to sell cars and make money and I have no idea why people have such a problem with Traxxas for doing that but then you worship all the other companies do the exact same thing. Horizon doesn't change the name they just kill the product entirely. And you might want to rethink about purchasing it because these are going to sell like hotcakes and we take your review seriously and your tech skills even more seriously. The old nitro design which was over priced WAS jato, but the new buggy is Jato and you have to get used to it whether you like it or not it's not going anywhere. I'm much more old time than you, Traxxas came out in the 80s not in the mid 90s so don't base everything on history from the mid 90s . Don't throw little RC fits Earl Moorehead you're the best RC channel on the Internet because you don't do that. Fix that up and tune it, rather than bashing it and then selling it that's ridiculous. Love all your videos but totally disagree with getting all up in arms about some name.
The track I showed two weeks ago shows why nitro is around the nitro field was full and Hobao seemed to dominate the field nitros not dead just take a certain enthusiast to run them
I think nitro has one foot in the grave and the other foot on a banana peel. Traxxas I would say is leveraging brand equity in the Jato name and putting it on an RC that maybe can carry that name into the future.
It’s like the e-Revo. They should’ve called it E-Jato
your Awesome Earl. Hit the nail on the head. Rc sparks got me back in the Hobbie back in 2015, but your my rc relief anymore. Thankyou an Godbless

@Earl Morehead, has the jato sold?
Sounds exactly what Ford did with the Mach E!!! They should've called it a

The Mach is NOT a Mustang. Does not have the Mustang heritage.
