    He did his assignments when they were given out. That is some solid advice. Have a draft ready within a week, then leave them aside and revisit a week later. Your mind is clear, you can review the assignment with renewed perspective and make the appropriate corrections. Repeat as many times as you need and in the end you have a triple A coursework

    My husband is an officer in the MIT alumni club of our state. Every year the club invites the accepted students to a dinner with an MIT professor to encourage them to attend MIT. MIT tends to give less financial aid than other schools, but given the special nature of MIT, the problem-solving university, many accepted students choose MIT even though it means some financial sacrifice. One young woman turned down a full scholarship to Yale for MIT with no regrets.

    • @TheAAOinfin
      @TheAAOinfin 7 років тому +100

      A genius would be one of those kids who gets a gold medal in the Math Olympiad or places highly in the Intel Science competition. This kid is smart, and works hard and doesn't procrastinate. I know two smart, non-genius kids who have gotten into elite institutions such as Princeton and Harvard. None were geniuses. All were focused, hard workers, and knew the college game ie used their highschool years to create a resume that would get them into an elite school. I attended a top 10 also, and I am not a genius either.

    • @sarahmarie8056
      @sarahmarie8056 7 років тому +18

      TheAAOinfin yeah, you're right. I guess i've always associated being a genius with being smart but never really realized they were to separate things. Everyone can get into a great school and be really smart if they put in the time and effort :)

    • @TheAAOinfin
      @TheAAOinfin 7 років тому +26

      Hi Marie. I don't think eveyone can get into elite univerisites. It is difficult. It's just like not everyone can get into the NBA, regardless of how hard they work. We all have different talents and skills. But I just wanted to shed light on the fact that most of the people who attend these elite institutions are not rare geniuses. Some are just very good at test taking and following the rules. Others are born into a life of privilege and have had access to the best primary and secondary schools along with tutoring. Also some are legacy kids, with parents or other relatives who are alumni.
      You do not need to attend a top ranked university to have a succesful life. And I am not just speaking about happiness, but wealth as well. As one famous example, look at Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple. He attended Auburn University for undergrad, which is a large, easy-to-get-into public university in Alabama.
      You just need to know what your interests and skills are, focus on them, and work hard to groom them. Some may not need to attend college in order to be succesful. Only attend an elite university as long as the costs are low due to grants and/or scholarships money. Don't take out huge loans. Otherwise, just attend a large well known public university in your state to keep costs down. You'll get a good education at a state college if you apply yourself.
      The real reason to attend top schools is not the education, but the alumni networks and on campus recruiting. But, if you are go-getter, you can build your own networks while attending a public university. Make sure to do internships. Good luck.

    My MIT acceptance seemed to be dependent on what the review board believed i would be bringing to MIT. I achieved an overall 1587 on the SAT and submitted what i consider one of my top 2 essays ever written in my life. However, the interview is what got me in. I excel in astrophysics and took a model and my published work of my theory on higher life as it pertains to the continued development of the multiverse in relation to supermassive black holes and beyond. It's my theory which requires a very open mind but the review board was very impressed and needless to say is what got me in. Remember originality, creativity, and intelligence will get you in guys.

    Some of the comments here are about being depressed when looking at this guy and how he has done so well for humself, but I think it really stands out to show just how much of a real person he is. I mean you wouldn't take a second look at the guy in the street, and by the way he talks you can tell he is shy but very focused. I think he is really sincere, and that is something you don't normally see with these kinds of videos with people just trying to impose how good they are at school and life and how many schools they got in.
    Really refreshing to see.

    This series is great, and I feel like I need his roommate to speak, too lol. Some of the students in this series are already super competitive applicants compared to most of the nation, so these Ivy leagues/top ranked colleges are barely a reach school. Two perspectives would be great, so one student like him, and another who had weaker numbers but still got in

    Thanks for sharing this video! I am going into senior year of high school and am currently stressing about college applications. Despite having a 4.55 gpa and a 1500 sat score (also i'll be taking 10 aps over my high school career), I am very worried about my chances of getting into mit and other top schools... My friend's sister was exactly like the guy in this video, scores and gpa wise, yet she was rejected from every school she applied to but one... I can't help but feeling there's some luck involved in the whole process.

    Just thinking about MIT gives me anxiety. I'm heading into my Junior year now and have had the highest GPA for the 9th and 10th grades. Both over 4.1 so I'm hoping to keep that up and that it helps me down the road.
    I need to get really good scores on the ACT, SAT, AND PSAT and have to get scholarships bc there is no way I would be able to pay. Student loans are traps so I'm not taking any.

    I lived in A-Entry at MacGregor House during my four years at MIT. I’m a member of the Class of 1975 who double majored in Math (Course XVIII) and Management (Course XV). I bought a TV for my (temporary) dorm room (in Baker House) on the first day I arrived at MIT for Residence Orientation Week in August 1971. I watched plenty of episodes of soap operas during my college years. I tried to schedule my classes for mornings and evenings, to the extent possible, leaving afternoons free for the soaps.
