A genius would be one of those kids who gets a gold medal in the Math Olympiad or places highly in the Intel Science competition. This kid is smart, and works hard and doesn't procrastinate. I know two smart, non-genius kids who have gotten into elite institutions such as Princeton and Harvard. None were geniuses. All were focused, hard workers, and knew the college game ie used their highschool years to create a resume that would get them into an elite school. I attended a top 10 also, and I am not a genius either.
TheAAOinfin yeah, you're right. I guess i've always associated being a genius with being smart but never really realized they were to separate things. Everyone can get into a great school and be really smart if they put in the time and effort :)
Hi Marie. I don't think eveyone can get into elite univerisites. It is difficult. It's just like not everyone can get into the NBA, regardless of how hard they work. We all have different talents and skills. But I just wanted to shed light on the fact that most of the people who attend these elite institutions are not rare geniuses. Some are just very good at test taking and following the rules. Others are born into a life of privilege and have had access to the best primary and secondary schools along with tutoring. Also some are legacy kids, with parents or other relatives who are alumni. You do not need to attend a top ranked university to have a succesful life. And I am not just speaking about happiness, but wealth as well. As one famous example, look at Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple. He attended Auburn University for undergrad, which is a large, easy-to-get-into public university in Alabama. You just need to know what your interests and skills are, focus on them, and work hard to groom them. Some may not need to attend college in order to be succesful. Only attend an elite university as long as the costs are low due to grants and/or scholarships money. Don't take out huge loans. Otherwise, just attend a large well known public university in your state to keep costs down. You'll get a good education at a state college if you apply yourself. The real reason to attend top schools is not the education, but the alumni networks and on campus recruiting. But, if you are go-getter, you can build your own networks while attending a public university. Make sure to do internships. Good luck.
Where are you from? I'm in international student from Pakistan and I'm applying this December. You mind spilling a little bit about your extra curriculars?
My husband is an officer in the MIT alumni club of our state. Every year the club invites the accepted students to a dinner with an MIT professor to encourage them to attend MIT. MIT tends to give less financial aid than other schools, but given the special nature of MIT, the problem-solving university, many accepted students choose MIT even though it means some financial sacrifice. One young woman turned down a full scholarship to Yale for MIT with no regrets.

My MIT acceptance seemed to be dependent on what the review board believed i would be bringing to MIT. I achieved an overall 1587 on the SAT and submitted what i consider one of my top 2 essays ever written in my life. However, the interview is what got me in. I excel in astrophysics and took a model and my published work of my theory on higher life as it pertains to the continued development of the multiverse in relation to supermassive black holes and beyond. hey man thanks even though I'm a freshman my dream is to get into MIT and thanks to your video I will take more honor and AP classes and I hope I can get into the college
I go to a community college 😕 my high school grades were super poor, because I was just having fun. MIT is my dream school. My community college gpa is 3.6 right now.
I lived in A-Entry at MacGregor House during my four years at MIT. I’m a member of the Class of 1975 who double majored in Math (Course XVIII) and Management (Course XV). I bought a TV for my (temporary) dorm room (in Baker House) on the first day I arrived at MIT for Residence Orientation Week in August 1971. I watched plenty of episodes of soap operas during my college years. I tried to schedule my classes for mornings and evenings, to the extent possible, leaving afternoons free for the soaps.
can you make a video on what to do if you go to a small public school but want to get into good colleges? My school only has two AP classes and no honors classes, most everyone on UA-cam who got into really good schools seems to have 4+ AP classes. I feel like I'm screwed.
honestly although most comments point out 'hes a god', he was very humble and his stats were more on the normal side compared to most other "here are my stats" videos it made me gain a little hope to apply for mit
Now, on the new SAT, you no longer are penalized for guessing. It's to your advantage to answer every question to the best of your ability, even if you're not completely confident in your response.
My strategy: get a 5.0 gpa, destroy my sats(800 math, 800 reading), take as many extracurriculars as I can, have a really good reputation to teachers, write really good essays, graduate as valedictorian in 2024
The simple thing is, you need a lot of certificates symbolizing your involvement in extra curricular activities. I am in Grade 12 and one year away from starting my Bachelors. If I want to get into the MIT, can I manage to make all those certificate achievements within short period?
Is it possible to enter MIT after a long time after graduating high school. They sent me brochures and pamphlets about them and Mensa through out my high school period but I never took the opportunity. I think now I may be ready to start.
I am taking the test after a month. I have dedicated that month just for SAT prep! I scored on 4 practice tests in the 1320-1380 range (Math 670-730 , English 640-710). Is it possible that I score 1500+ after a month practice on khan academy plus solving 4 more practice test?
Consider the ACT too! It's a different kind of test, but 1) you can take it more often and not have to worry about missing SAT 2 dates 2) there are more practice tests than new SAT and 3) once you get the hang of the timing, it is much easier to take. If you qualify for extended time, than it's a significantly better option.
He said he went into electrical engineering/computer science early in the video, but later he said a "specific instructor" inspired him to study chemical engineering. Just follow what he explained for MIT. If you have the resume to get into MIT, you will definitely get into UCLA.
You show any college your approved for MIT id bet you would never get rejected
Does this mean I'm screwed if I got a B freshman year?
TheTachyon absolutely not, if anything it will show you improved as a person
TheTachyon i agree with the other person, i’ve heard from my counselor that colleges really want to see growth!
How I Got Into MIT ???
I payed 70 000 $
Is it that simple bro
time to rob a bank
"I'm not a genius" has over 4.7GPA and over a 2300 on the SAT

I go to a community college 😕 my high school grades were super poor, because I was just having fun. MIT is my dream school. My community college gpa is 3.6 right now.

Exist and be somewhat smart.

Keep at it :)
Can you make video for ‘how to get into mit if you are an international applicant’ with an international student or alumni
Please
I lived in A-Entry at MacGregor House during my four years at MIT. I’m a member of the Class of 1975 who double majored in Math (Course XVIII) and Management (Course XV). I bought a TV for my (temporary) dorm room (in Baker House) on the first day I arrived at MIT for Residence Orientation Week in August 1971. I watched plenty of episodes of soap operas during my college years. I tried to schedule my classes for mornings and evenings, to the extent possible, leaving afternoons free for the soaps.
I really want to take AP courses but my school only offers dual enrollment :/. Would it help the same way?
Yes!
Schools look at how you use the resources you are provided to their maximum benefit! They don't count you off for something out of your control :)
Colleges only look at what you have available, and many say that dual credit is comparable to AP
Me before school starts 'I will work hard and study'
*school starts and plays video games the whole month.
This guy is amazing!
He's funny too!
thnkz bruh, that motivated me to be hardworker
Please do more videos like this!
I'm gonna apply and ill get you know how it went.
Can you do a video like this but in the perspective of an international student? Thanks!
His words really touched my heart😢
can you make a video on what to do if you go to a small public school but want to get into good colleges? My school only has two AP classes and no honors classes, most everyone on UA-cam who got into really good schools seems to have 4+ AP classes. I feel like I'm screwed.
Very informative and motivational , thank you .
Thankyou very much, this video helps a lot.
Glad you found it useful, Mason!
Can you please do videos about how IBDP helps with Ivy League colleges?
"im not a genius"
bro u had a 4.71 gpa in high school lol, thats commitment
honestly although most comments point out 'hes a god', he was very humble and his stats were more on the normal side compared to most other "here are my stats" videos it made me gain a little hope to apply for mit
What does he mean when he said he left some problems blank on the Math II subject test? I thought you get marked wrong if you didn't answer a question
AlfalfaTV you lose 1/4 for every wrong question. So if you leave some blankets you don't lose points
Now, on the new SAT, you no longer are penalized for guessing. It's to your advantage to answer every question to the best of your ability, even if you're not completely confident in your response.
Nova Star the subject test still takes off for wrong answers, the main test does not
Well u get marked wrong only if u write wrong
U get a negative only if u write wrong answer not if u keep it blank
How to get into MIT from abroad? (Africa particularly)
Can you make a vid on how to get into California Institutes of Technology (CIT) or (Caltech)
This guy is the one that you imagine when thinking in this university
My strategy: get a 5.0 gpa, destroy my sats(800 math, 800 reading), take as many extracurriculars as I can, have a really good reputation to teachers, write really good essays, graduate as valedictorian in 2024
Describes >4.0 unweighted GPA
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE
Literal living legend!
How will i create yourself for getting admission into MIT University from high school
Only whole INDIA topper RANK 1 in IIT JEE gets a chance to study in MIT wow, now I understand why.
Bro...I'm an international student....can anyone tell me what's the procedure for me to study in MIT?
4.71 gpa and went to a college preparatory school
10 aps and other honor class
This video is really helpful thank you sir
Thanks for the helpful video? Could you also make a Dartmouth or Bowdoin video? Thanks!
Tru gentleman's club?? ;) never heard of that before but I liked the idea!
everytime i see these videos my probability of getting rejected from mit increases exponentially 🙂💔
Omg now I wonder if I have any chance to get into a great college haha. He’s awesome
Great presentation!
The simple thing is, you need a lot of certificates symbolizing your involvement in extra curricular activities. I am in Grade 12 and one year away from starting my Bachelors. If I want to get into the MIT, can I manage to make all those certificate achievements within short period?
I want take Admission in MIT ..what can i do ??
Is it possible to enter MIT after a long time after graduating high school. They sent me brochures and pamphlets about them and Mensa through out my high school period but I never took the opportunity. I think now I may be ready to start.
how old are you
Oh, just 873.
I am taking the test after a month. I have dedicated that month just for SAT prep! I scored on 4 practice tests in the 1320-1380 range (Math 670-730 , English 640-710). Is it possible that I score 1500+ after a month practice on khan academy plus solving 4 more practice test?
yeah i jumped from a 1120 to a 1420 within a month of practicing. My scores are still climbing-just keep grinding
Consider the ACT too! It's a different kind of test, but 1) you can take it more often and not have to worry about missing SAT 2 dates 2) there are more practice tests than new SAT and 3) once you get the hang of the timing, it is much easier to take. If you qualify for extended time, than it's a significantly better option.
it’s nice to know that 280k people are trying to get with me
He said he went into electrical engineering/computer science early in the video, but later he said a "specific instructor" inspired him to study chemical engineering. Did I hear him wrong? if not what made him/you want to switch areas of study? (I am also interested in studying electrical engineering).
Hello, I am Sadia Afreen, I complete my graduation in Urban and Regional Planning. But I am very much passionate about Mathematics and I want to pursue my Ph.D. degree in Mathematics and computer science at MIT. Is it possible? If possible then what should I do? Please suggest.

SETH BARRERE it will at least show your willing to try?
He has really good academic stats as a recruiter swimmer.
Hey, can you please do one for Northwestern? Thanks!
for those kid with low scores getting into MIT, they will struggle a lot. meaning they will be in the bottom of the class all the time and feel lost. If you don't want to be in that situation, don't go to MIT with low scores.
