I think the two major points Cara & Prez missed with Emilia is that one, she doesn't know what love entails. Remember she lived a life of such discrimination she couldn't even fathom the idea of anyone saying they loved her, as she said in the season 1 finale. So of course she doesn't understand how love can let you see past all faults and accept them. She quite literally doesn't know about the famous power of love. Which is a massive statement about just how tragic her character is. Combine this with the second major point which is Emilia's fear of abandonment. Emilia's promises had the subtext meaning of "please don't abandon me". Which she feels both Puck and Subaru broke.
So feeling like she's on the cusp of being abandoned in a world where she's entirely alone and hated, she's blaming herself and her faults as to why she's unlovable, and to reaffirm that belief she wants others to say it to her straight. To confirm her self hate. You know who literally expressed those exact same emotions and that this is a direct parallel to? Subaru. Subaru wanted his parents to yell at him for his faults and laziness and throw him out of the house. The reveal here is that both Emilia and Subaru are people who struggle with self love and internally want to be punished for their own self-perceived misgivings.
Typhon the witch of Pride even made this a big point with Subaru about how he is without sin, but still feels he is a sinner and wants to punished. Which is why he broke apart into many pieces as a result of her authority, but felt no pain. Typhon then goes on to say that Subaru must be a really good person for feeling this way. It's safe to say this would apply to Emilia as well. And just like Subaru had to learn in the last tea party that the people he loves may in fact love him back, Emilia is having to face learning the same truth.
This whole arc actually has Subaru and Emilia going through the same self-love validation issues and ultimately synching up with each other. To finally be on the same page. The kiss was that moment they were able to put aside their worries and believe in the hope that they in their very flawed selves are worthy of being loved. That it isn''t a trick and is genuine. The episode is co-titled "Reason To Believe" for that very reason.

Did you forgot about the whole 2 points they misses stuff that you started with? Or did I missed the second one?.
But I think there is also crucial info that they missed and changed their understanding of the scene.
      2 main things, in fact.
1 - They don't know for most of the argument that "the promise" Subaru broke was staying with her until morning. So they do not understand why Emilia is conflicted about what Subaru os saying
2 - They do not understand that Subaru can't enter the Sanctuary, so he is being repelled/hurt by it, and Subaru doing that kind of stuff is what Emilia has feelings against.
Those 2 facts seem like details, but they really made them think they were arguing nonsense and that changes their tought process

The term witch Emilia uses here isn't in the same vein as a Witch that represents one of the Sins. It's just her taking ownership of the negative word other people have thrown upon her to finally take away some of the power being wrongfully associated with Satella has had over her mind.

  • @jonathanbustillos514
    @jonathanbustillos514 4 місяці тому +22

Emilia is just naming herself a witch because that's how the villagers near the forest she froze called her, it's not an actual witch like the sin witches Satella, Echidna, Minerva, etc. Besides, Echidna calling her Witch's daughter doesn't mean she's the daughter of the witch of envy or something like that because it's literally impossible for Emilia to be Satella's daughter, they already explained that with the barrier and how you need to be half blooded, like actually 50% of one race and 50% of another. Satella is also half elf (50% elf 50% human) and Emilia's father is a 100% elf so she can't be her mother because Emilia would be 75% elf 25% human and therefore would be unaffected by the barrier.

Ahhh, I see. You're missing the full context of everything happening. I don't blame you guys tho, since a lot of moving parts are going on, and not all of them are being equally, fully developed or explained. It's totally fair to be confused.
I'd say that Season 2's biggest flaw is its structure and pacing at times, and maybe the way some of the dialogue comes through. Bear in mind, we don't actually have any of Emilia's backstory, and even when we get it, it's kind of a patchwork for anime-only's.
So, Basically, Subaru and Otto already had a plan of action in mind, but Emilia running off since Subaru didn't keep his promise to stay with her through the night threw things out of whack because now, Subaru had to go babysit his GF through her panic attack, instead of participating in the actual plan.
That's why Otto and Ram are going through all that. Emilia is the key part of the plan, and Subaru is really the only person who can get her moving. But the plan itself was already underway, and he REALLY NEEDED her to get the fuck over it and do what needed to be done. Also, extra context, Subaru was actually in extreme pain during this whole conversation but didn't let it show. Remember they're IN the graveyard, and Subaru lost his qualification a couple episodes ago. What happened to Roswall is happening to him right now, he's just fighting through it for her and for everyone else.
    Because he's a fucking Chad.
As for their big argument, it's messy, because Emilia is in a similar position to Subaru from episode 18, and Subaru is now in Rem's position, but back then WE followed Subaru and got all his logic and saw all his failures first-hand. This time it's frustrating because we aren't yet seeing Emilia's perspective, we're just seeing her flaws without explanation or redemption(yet).
    Fair play guys! Good reaction.

  • @urulokigaming3229

"It's over and over". Don't forget for Emilia this is still her "first" time. And you have to recall ALL of Subaru and Emilia's history. Subaru promised Emilia he would not crash the Royal Selection. He promised to not use his magic and let his gate heal. Both led to their first big fight/split. Subaru has repeatedly broken promises (Puck told him that promises are THE most important thing to spirit art users, partially because that's what their contracts are) and Emilia has had a LOT of people trying to manipulate/steer her one direction or another. And Roswall just told Subaru that Subaru SHOULD trample over Emilia's will in order to save her. Even a pep talk can be manipulative and can feel like the other person is ignoring the real issues depending on timing and sincerity, both of which are impossible to gauge. So Emilia is REALLY struggling to discern whether this fight and Subaru's actions are just a repeat of the fight/broken promises in the capital or not. He said he loved her and everything was for her then too, but that was a lie (he did it for himself and his ego/hurt pride).
The raw reactions are greatly appreciated and enjoyable. You guys are 100% right, these are the emotions the author is WANTING to elicit which speaks to how well it's done and some balls to make characters this unlikable at times. Makes the show feel more real and characters more authentic. People are flawed and annoying and walking contradictions.

I genually can’t understand how someone can have so little of an understanding of Emilia’s character. You decided long ago that you hate her and now you aren’t even trying to understand where she’s coming from. From when she can remember she received nothing but hate by everyone, hate for just existing. You even watched the OVA, where the spirit literally told her “the world itself hates you because you existence is a sin”. it’s only natural that she can’t fathom the idea of being loved, as she said in the season 1 finale she doesn’t think she is worthy of being loved, of being happy, she doesn’t even know was love entails.

It's really simple, the romance doesn't work because we've been more on Subaru's side because the story has been following him. Emilia only gets her time to show herself outside of Subaru's VERY limited understanding from ep 17 onwards. It's hard to keep track of because of all his deaths, but it's only been 3 ish months since Emilia has met him. We don't even know how many times they've had meaningful interactions during that time, but we do know that he's broken 2 big promises to her. On top of not having a lot of experience with a loving relationship outside of Puck, Emilia also values keeping promises as a representation of a positive relationship. He had a reason for breaking this promise that was more reasonable than the one in the Capital, but Emilia is right by saying that Subaru is being selfish in using "love" as the thing to paint over his motivations and mistakes. However, selfishness is a part of being in a good relationship(friend or more) anyway so that's just something that Emilia has to learn.

I saw another comment here mentioned the conversation between Subaru and Rem in S1 and there's definitely a parallel there - if we hadn't been with Subaru's perspective throughout the show I'm sure that whole part would've felt a lot more aggravating for the viewers (I love Emilia part excluded lol)

@@ChaosTheory419 Yea, and I see it as a product of Subaru's flaw as a person. He acts on his own presumptions and views of the world before asking the other people involved theirs. I think that a different person would have spent the 2 months we don't see between Arc 2 and 3 actually getting to know the people in the mansion and avoiding a lot of the misunderstandings that Subaru had/has. Roswaal being sus, Emilia's whole missing memories and insecurities, and in general even a bit of the history of the world. Nagatsuki-sensei's livetweets/trivia for episode 16.
Nagatsuki Tappei (Author of Re:Zero) likes to tweet as the episode airs. They usually include trivia and facts around that episode.
    Rough translation:
Yes, this week's Re: Zero time has come! Last time, as Otto was doing his best and putting his life on the line, Subaru and Emilia were having a lover's quarrel, and we start from there!
In order to forget what he doesn't want to see, Garfiel smashes his head again and again. The forehead wound is the wound of Garfiel's defeat, isn't it.
What Subaru depended on Otto to do was stalling to give him time to talk to Emilia. He asked him to slow Garfiel down, but told him to run away if things got dangerous. Despite that, not only did Otto not run away, he even talked Ram into helping to give him a shot at winning.
Last time, at the end, Garfiel was being pressured by Otto and Ram's tag team, but even in his ragged state, he still showed up at the grave to protect the reason he clings to, you see.
Subaru knowing this and that about Garfiel's situation is because he listened to Alma (one of the Ryuzu-sans) talking during the night. It's one of the things he broke his promise with Emilia to do. Another reason is, well, that's later.
The 'Trial' basically shows your unpleasant past, so Subaru saw his parents that he couldn't show his face to, Emilia sees the past she isn't able to face, and Garfiel saw the mother that abandoned him.
The main battle is a fight between Subaru, who believes in "The strength to change", and Roswaal, who believes in "The weakness to not change", but Garfiel, too, holds to "The weakness to not change". Strength that can change, and feelings that don't change, you see.
Subaru wouldn't admit it, but this is putting Julius' advice that "It would only work on a mindless beast" to use. It wouldn't work on Garfiel if he wasn't beast-changed, but once he's beast-changed and lost his ability to reason, Shamac works.
Further, the cracking noise in the middle of the fight is Subaru's gate that he was told not to use, and and it's reached it's limit as a result. It's kept quiet for now, but with this, Subaru will never be able to use magic again.
Despite properly remembering Julius' advice, he completely ignored Felis' advice. It can't be helped that Felis would dislike him for this. Feli-chan is hopping mad.
The one shot that undid Garfiel's beast-change is the crystal Subaru received from Frederica, and there was this spirit that just went stray a little while ago, and he stole all the mana from everything nearby, so that's the background behind him being weakened.
Yeah! One blow from the most ladylike of the Emilia camp! Vengeance is hers!
"The Stone of Quain can't be lifted alone." is, amongst Garfiel's odd sayings, one of the easier to understand. It would be fine to understand that as meaning there's a limit to what you can accomplish alone.
In season two, Amasaki-san has had lots of chances to play with "The Blessing of the Soul of Language". I'd like to see him do lots of different impressions of animal voices like that.
It's written "The Invisible Strike of God (Invisible Providence)". Subaru's new special attack.
Subaru's new move is something you may have seen somewhere before, but what you've seen somewhere is a result of the seed of it working it's way into Subaru when the original user was defeated. It's like Mega Man.
(Reply tweet from @asahiruban58) Upon saying farewell to Shamac-senpai, Unseen Hand-sensei has arrived. This is really an upgrade for Subaru.
(Nagatsuki-sensei replying to the above tweet) Shamac is more useful, you know.
Nee-sama pulls a bad girl move...... She's a good girl, so she uses a bad girl move......
You hear your own voice at the 'Trial", so of course this is Garfiel's own voice. Can he overcome his own past? It's a 'Trial' that it's fine even if he doesn't overcome, but he wants the answer.
The move here where he goes to punch his younger self is the same as Aaron-san in FFX, isn't it. I like it.
In the story, the most luckless woman is Garfiel and Frederica's mother "Lithia Tinsel". Garfiel and Frederica have different fathers, but at the point where neither of their fathers loved their mother, and she had to carry her two children away from them, they weren't very good fathers.
Lithia had nowhere to go, and was carrying both Frederica along with the not-yet-born Garfiel in her belly, and in the circumstances where she was looking for work and someplace to stay, she was taken in by Roswaal and introduced to 'Sanctuary' as a place to work.
Clones are a difficult topic; there's no way Emilia-tan would understand!
About Garfiel calling him 'Boss', this relationship will continue on in the future. Subaru has tamed Garfiel!
Around this part where Garfiel isn't unable to say thanks openly, and covers it up with his temper, Okamoto-san's performance was wonderful, wasn't it. He's really Garfieling, I think. Amazing.
While she hasn't entirely thrown off her nervousness and fears, even then, Emilia is entering the grave with the most optimistic feeling she's had yet.
What Garfiel saw in the grave was one part of what Subaru broke his promise with Emilia to spend the night doing.
He isn't thinking even a little about Emilia not challenging the 'Trials', so it's about what he can do to help her after she's gone inside. It's painful when he's inside, so he did his best while enduring that.
The evil witch that we haven't seen for a while.
The difference in atmosphere is because she's dealing with Emilia. There really are people who change their attitude in a flash!
"Because I'm a troublesome woman." is, in a certain sense, Emilia's new self-awareness after letting everything out. From now on, Emilia will hold her head high...... with that feeling, look forward to what this camp will do in the future!
Ram and Otto survived, and in exchange for the death of Shamac, Patrasche's pride is reborn, Garfiel becomes a loyal cat, and Subaru's late-night love letter was seen! And, Emilia's become a troublesome woman and Echidna is making an unpleasant face! Look forward to next time, too!

When Subaru said "thanks" it was because he was begging his own body to be able to endure using "shamac" one last time (he was warned that his "gate", the thing that allows all living creatures to use magic, was way too damaged and unstable) so this was the literal last time he could use it and was risking dying in the process.
By the way, when a witch dies, her powers (a.k.a as "witch factor") chooses the host that is most compatible with the sin to go into that person.
When Subaru killed Betelgeuse, his "witch factor" (what Betelgeuse called "the unseen hand") was passed to Subaru. But Subaru decided to change its name to "invisible providence" to not have to remember the bad times he spent because of Betelgeuse.

I remember when episode 15 first aired i reacted the same way you guys did, the whole Emilia and Subaru scene just made me so mad and confused because i didn't understand why they'd kept arguing like a 5 year old, and that the kiss felt so not-dramatic that i thought it was just trash. Here i am 3-4 years later, while i wouldn't mark this as a top 5 anime romantic moments, i've come to understand and appreciate it, it's not supposed to carry any heavy reasoning behind it, it's just how realistically most couple fights are (stupid).
While it's true Subaru's side of the conversation is the one making more sense, i wouldn't just brush Emilia's as a kid throwing a tantrum, Girl suddenly lost the one she considered a father and helped her when she was alone, started to remember stuff about her life she didn't even know about, and when she asked the person who supposedly loves her, to stay by her side when she needed him the most, he left.

You missed 2 details that became big key points in your misunderstanding of Emilia's situation.
1 - Emilia asked him to stay with her for the night, which was truely important for her. Subaru agreed and proceeded to break the promise, again. And, as Puck said, Subaru fails to understand how important a promise is to Emilia.
2 - What both Emilia and Subaru agreed in their last argument to be "selfish" is to hurt yourself for the sake of the other person, when they didn't asked for it, and then blaming the one you are helping. Subaru is doing it again right now because he is no longer accepted in the trial so the Sanctuary is trying to kick him out, which hurts, and Subaru even called out Emilia for that (with good intentions, but did it nonetheless). That is what Emilia calles "selfish” in this argument, and nothing else.
It’s easy to say “just believe Subaru”, but if you actually try to put yourself in Emilia's shoes, it's also easy to feel skepticism about Subaru’s feelings and behaviour. Specially if you are incredibly inexperienced with those feelings, as Emilia is.

On your confusion with the conversation scene: I think some of the issue here is that since you tend to self-insert into characters (namely Subaru in this show), you are having a harder time seeing the overall picture that's going on. And since you don't know the entirety of what Subaru is thinking at the moment and you don't fully know the plan, the whole conversation with Emilia and whatnot makes way less sense. I get why you get annoyed by it, but you're definitely missing the whole reason why Emilia is having such a hard time believing that Subaru actually loves her. Remember that the witch's tea party scene had a whole time of Subaru learning to love himself? Now it's kind of Emilia's turn to do the same and to understand that others can also love her. It's kind of like what happened in season 1: you REALLY were mad at Subaru for a while because you didn't understand his decision making, but as you can now probably see, it was important for the overall story that that situation was handled like that.

Still can’t comprehend how someone can be in favour of Rem after all she did and hate Emilia for simply doubting that someone can love her - maybe it’s my Ln reader advantage but even now Emilia had flashes of doubt if Puck loves her , that should be pretty telling how big the trauma is.

Now that you're further in, you can see where Emilia's quirks come from.
    1) She was raised isolated from everyone except her mother and a few of the elves from Elior Forest, and had a VERY brief interaction with Geuse and that very brief window of seeing a healthy loving relationship for like maybe 3 weeks.
    2) She was frozen when she was 7 years old, and while she was frozen she continued to age PHYSICALLY for 114 years, when she emerged, she was a 7 year old mind in the body of an adolescent half-elf.
    3) Even when she thawed, she was also EXTREMELY isolated in the frozen Elior forest, and her ONLY guide and interaction was with Puck and silently buying supplies occasionally from the nearby small village.
    4) Her entire education and etiquette was provided by Roswall in a vert brief period of time.
She's still struggling to age up mentally as quickly as possible. That's why she acts so childish and naive. She IS a naive child in many ways.

It's okay to misunderstand things and situations
It's fine if you're skipping context from episodes ago
It's something else altogether if you're actively ignoring the context of a conversation altogether and isolating bits you don't like because you're talking over things in the midst of this very conversation
It's not that big a deal tho plenty of reaction videos does just that

Hi Cara and Prez, Love your honest reactions. Here is a non-spoiler to clear up some confusion.
Remember: Going into the tomb without permission causes CRAZY amounts of pain and sufferage, Subaru broke his promise in order to go in there and marker the entire room up to motivate and encourage Emilia. Also when they were arguing he was suffering the entire time, to the point of wanting to throw up more than once because at that time he didn't have the blessing to enter either, Which is why Emilia hide in there, only she has the blessing (and Gar) so she figured nobody would find her there.
Last: Emilia was bullied with the term "Witch" During the time she had with puck in Elior Forest (The movie you watched) Witch is often used in this show it seems by people to mean "The outkast of society that we don't understand" and the village near her called her that, After her stunt were she told the shoe maker to leave her alone, she started getting called "The Frozen Witch". So at this point she decides to just own the title. She isn't one of the 7 sins "witches" (who may have ended up exactly the same way, being unjustly labelled) and due to her looking like the Witch of Envy, she was nicknamed "The Witch's Daughter" by others. Its just vilification by those who operate in fear and ignorance.

    Nagatsuki-sensei's livetweets/trivia for episode 15.
Nagatsuki Tappei (Author of Re:Zero) likes to tweet as the episode airs. They usually include trivia and facts around that episode.
    Rough translation:
Alright! A week has passed, and it's time for Re: Zero ! Last time, the situation started with Otto and ended with Otto; what will the content be this time!? Otto dies! Nah, let's see the results first! Please enjoy this week, too!
And with that, this week starts with Otto as well!
You can say that he forecast that "I probably won't be killed.", and you could also say he was reading his opponent's opening moves. He was prepared to take a shot to the gut, but on the other hand, that was preparation for taking a valuable stone from his neck.
Incidentally, about the pit trap, not only did Otto dig at it himself, he likely also asked the bugs to help. It depends on what he offers in return, but he's able to get quite a bit of help. Also, Otto's speciality is earth magic.
Otto's hometown is a city called Piktat in the south of Lugunica. It's one of the bigger cities in Lugunica, and has a bit of an Arabian flair. A background song with that style was used, too.
Otto is the middle child of three brothers, and has good parents, so for one who has the "Blessing of the Soul of Language", it was a very fortunate environment. Most people who have the "Blessing of the Soul of Language" are unable to endure the hell of being trapped in the countless voices that surround them, and die before reaching adulthood. Aside from Otto, only one person in history has managed to develop normally.
Further, as a result of this, Otto's younger brother Regin holds a strong feeling of guilt towards his older brother. As a result of many different efforts to try and become able to speak with animals, he wasn't able to hear them, but in the end, he'll become a veterinarian.
"Hide the power of your blessing." is sensible advice from big brother Oslo, and the normal way of thinking for those with blessings. It's easy to become ostrasized when you're different from other people. Of course, there's people like Reinhard with no way to hide it...
The cute white girl that showed up partway through was Otto's first love. Otto, who sees no difference between conversations with people or animals, chose a white cat as his first love. Just as you can see, he only looked and never did anything, so she was carried off by a handsome cat.
Being unlucky is just business as usual for Otto by now, but his chance encounter with Petelgeuse was probably the worst of it.
It's been a while since Ricardo has had a chance to appear; this is a hidden event that occurred during the correct route of arc three. After being captured by Petelgeuse, it developed that Otto was saved during the 'Sloth' finger hunting that was part of Subaru's strategy.
Mimi and Tivey standing behind Otto with ropes is the answer to how he ended up being carried around tied to a pole. Due to Ricardo's lack of communication with his underlings, he ended up being captured again as a suspicious individual.
Hey hey, having the OP running during his actions makes him look like a main character, doesn't it......
In arc three, it did also happen that Otto pushed Subaru off the cart to get away from the White Whale, but at that point in time, he was simply a client, and on top of that, Otto was terribly confused by the White Whale's voice. Now he's indebted to Subaru, and knows him as a friend. Relationships change as the situation changes; that's looping.
Incidentally, he's using the red magic stones freely, but that's a part of Otto's self-defense strategy in case of emergency. But, I think they're probably pretty expensive. It's difficult to think that he'd be stingy with this sort of investment.
    Ram joins the battle!
The background music for Ram's appearance really has a boss music style. In truth, with the conditions set up properly, Ram is in the strongest class in the story, so it wouldn't be strange for her to have music like the White Whale did.
"A man who simply has good timing" is the simplest form of trust in Subaru, who can't talk about "Return by Death". After arc two, nee-sama holds him in that sort of regard; well, she really does know how to look at people.
As he was until just before now, if Garfiel had been hit by Ram's rush attack, he'd have been knocked out. Having said that, Ram and Garfiel having the sort of training where they'd be punching each other hasn't happened for years. As you'd expect, they haven't done it while they've both progressed to this point. Garfiel was probably holding back, at least a little.
And even then, that's the sort of nee-sama she is...
Oh I see, this was Otto's named chapter, was it? Huh, then what are we doing for the second half? (foreshadowing!)
The true continuation of last round's ending. Inside the tomb, Subaru runs towards Emilia as she sits on the ground, but just as even he says himself, his qualification to enter the tomb has been taken away, and after suffering that leaves his face dirtied, he's finally managed to make it here.
The same as with Puck disappearing, Subaru once again not keeping a promise is having an effect. Setting aside what Subaru was doing after breaking his promise, disappearing without an excuse or note just won't do. No, it won't do at all.
From the point of view of Emilia, who hasn't been able to pass a single trial, she's been unable to respond to Subaru, who's always been helping from arc one through three, and she wanted to believe in the word "love" that Subaru used, but that was betrayed by a broken promise... The result of that is "You never expected anything from me, did you?".
Up until now, Subaru and Emilia arguing is something that has only occurred once, when Subaru was trying to withdraw, and Emilia was showing consideration for him, at their fight in the castle in season one, episode 13. Maybe the one-sided one in episode 17 would apply, too? This is their first fight since then.
"Why do I have to go through all these painful things just to help a troublesome woman like you!?" is Subaru's real feelings, and his heartfelt confession.
Partway through, even the background music disappears, and it's entirely the two of them laid bare; that's neat, isn't it.
The flow of things here, where Emilia's inner feelings are overflowing out, contrasts with the part where Subaru shouted out "I don't want to lose anyone else like I did Rem!"; as the author, that's the image I have of it.
    Moms are awesome!
This depiction of the one you're speaking with showing up in your eyes, is the sort of thing you can't do in a novel, but you can here since it's an anime. How dare you, that's cheating, how dare you......!
Look look, it's the second episode title!! (the foreshadowing came true!)
Well, now that Subaru and Emilia's first clumsy argument is over and they head outside, Garfiel is waiting for them, covered in blood. Otto died!?
Otto's past, and Subaru and Emilia's argument is a collection of important moments in the view of the author, so we asked too much of the episode titles. While wondering "Is that the sort of thing you do with titles......?", that's one of the specialities of Re: Zero, using titles as part of the performance!
And with that, thanks for joining us again this week! After making our way through this fight, how will Subaru and the others deal with Garfiel next week? Look forward to it! And for what happened to Otto!

probably cause i already finished re:zero and still constantly re:watch it(get it?) is the reason that i don't find this scene with emilia as frustrating. canonically in season 1-2(arc1-4): she is
      age:100+ years old
      physical age: 17-18
      emotionally(not mentally):14
plus with her backstory, i find her behaviour quite fitting, it was also similar like how subaru couldn't believe rem actually loved him,. i love how all the main cast has moments that is like a parallel/reflection to another characters actions/moments.

44:30 witch in Emilia’s case is a title it’s not the same as the witches of sins who have the role of a witch (witches of sin gain powers based on their sins the sin archbishop pandora and hector have shown examples of it Emilia doesn’t get anything) common people in the world can’t tell the difference between an actual witch and a really good magic user so sometimes they call powerful mages witches by mistake (this information won’t be mentioned in anime since it’s from side stories or author statements)

  • @woo7397

i do love your reactions but i also feel like you were kinda harsh with emilia. the only reason she hasn't been able to do the trials is because you can't face a past you have distorted memories of. it's like trying to face something you are mentally preparing yourself for then all of a sudden the thing switches to another trauma you aren't able to move on from!
also you think emilia is crying over and over again but it only seems that way because subaru has been living the first couple of days for a while. for emilia, it's always only her first or maybe third time attempting to do the trial, which she has no way of passing unless her memories came back. echidna has said that the trial reflects the consciousness and the memories of the person attempting the trial, so it makes sense for her to fail every time because it wasn't her actual past, only a distorted version of it. also, puck has always kept emilia dependent on him, he's okay with the idea of emilia staying the way she is without ever growing, he's part of the reason why she's like this. he even wishes for it in the frozen bonds ova, i don't really like him lol.
another thing about puck, he's the one who kept putting the idea of subaru's wounds and scars being directly her fault into her head. it's why she hates seeing him get injured so much and calls him selfish because of it, she doesn't wanna be the direct cause of his pain. also if you're wondering, what i'm saying comes from the OVA memory snow, it's near the end!
emilia's character is super interesting to me, you might think she's not that entertaining but i really love seeing her on screen, and how subaru and her both parallel each other makes me super happy too because at the end of the day they're both two teenagers who struggle with self love. emilia, just like subaru with his parents, wanted subaru to get mad at her for running away. she wanted him to be disappointed because she wanted to believe that he had expectations for her.

Well, I'll timestamp my comments for this episode given the title:-
1:58 Those bugs together make very loud sound, enough to knock probably ram out as well. A good sound attack
2:20 His "soul of language" Divine protection was said in season 1, last episode where he goes full crazy to get to Emilia then have petelguese chase him
3:08 Otto wrote something on the lines of "Thank you for caring for me"
5:12 from novel extra content mentioned in yt vids & other people, that white cat was otto's first crush
11:50 Subaru has had multiple deaths by now, so his witch miasma/smell is very strong. Similar to how & why he kept getting killed by rem in s1 due to the smell, Garfield is also getting more & more doubtful & hateful of Subaru who comes out of the trial with a scent of the witch cultists. Garf isn't going to listen to any of his reason now given how he must smell after all these restarts, plus he doesnt trust roswaal either so roswaal betting on Subaru is also red flag for him (cuz Garf doesnt know they are at odds, yet).
12:44 That was a damn good catch, you got the entire conversation scene befire it even started!
And goddamn how good was the reaction & understanding of their conversation. Love it❤️
16:16 Btw, subaru is in pain cuz the trial is rejecting him (not too hard since daytime)
17:36 Yup, she's struggling to accept it. With the ova movie as well, we've seen she's never had any proper relationship where someone would care for her. be it villagers or roswaal, everyone was basically doing a trade with her plus she has lost her memories so she didn't remember any other person loving her. Only puck was the first to ever care in a different way & love her too, hence puck & her are in father daughter type relationship.
So when Subaru says "yup, you're crybaby & dumb but you're also beautiful & smart, that's why i love you", she doest understand and retorts with "how can you say you love me when theres no equal exchange? why is your love irrational? rationally thinking about what you've said, you just gave me the reasons to believe & conclude that you don't love me. I can't rationalise your irrational love for me, i dont understand it". all this because she doesnt understand that love is irrational, she coukd rationalise puck & her love as parental because its rational for parents & children to love each other, but she can't understand why & how two different people fall in love irrationally.
OKAY, that was a lot to type & probably for you to digest as well. Good luck if reading this.
20:25 Garf waiting for him is such a nice thing from him. He is not rejected by the trial, yet he still waited.
(Kudos to me I guess, lol. Emilia conversation took some time to process, since watched it when airing weekly so had time to let it settle)
30:18 So, another kind of long explanation from memory, so take it with caution cuz i aint spoiling myself with wiki again.
There are 3 mutually exclusive magic systems of the world, 1= witch factors which go against the natural flow, 2= Divine protections like otto, 3= The Od+Gate magic system, with bucket & hole in the bucket analogy.
the 3rd is where also you can have a spirit be your gate, like Julius & Emilia to become spirit users, or use it naturally like roswaal & untrained subaru
Subaru destroys his gate, which they had to heal by felix/felis, after overusing from village mabeast fight then with Julius duel. Thus he could now use the unnatural power, mutually exclusive to other systems, his sloth witch factor.
He had this knowledge from when merged with other minds inside darkness of Satella in that one restart & also echidna. So he thanks his body for surviving him destroying his damaged but healing gate by overusing the power.
44:00 Emilia is "The witch of Glaciation" (technically) because she's a magic user & a female, so very technically a witch, plus also called a witch by others so she's just accepting it.
Btw, enjoyed the real reactions. You people got so much right, and its okay to be confused. Heck you people did really good even. Honestly only after this episode made me understand Emilia a bit more slowly since i didn't get her plus relationship with Subaru when there was rem present all along. The trials are going to be fun, can't wait for you guys to react ti Emilia's past.
also something to remember, you only get a witch factor & then become Archbishop, like how subaru killed Petelguese to get his factor. So question also is, how did Petelguese manage to get it in the first place? What about Regulas Corneas who had the Greed witch factor?

I never get why it would be bad to be honest as a reactor. Like I get that people hate others disagreeing with them but if you dont want someones honest opinion on a show than why even watch the reaction.
While I am still sometines baffled how you pick up on small details but overlook and forget the most in your face things (like shamak this episode), thats just what spices discussions up.
I also would not go as far as you two in disliking Emilia but I too am not the biggest fan. It is not even her character because I think she is well written but it is the simple factnthat there are so many other great and interesting characters in the show that she just gets overshadowed (Same for Rem thh but thats a different discussion).

tbh thats just what happens when you watch with someone and try and make meaningful commentary. whenever i watch something with people and make a comment, sometimes i completely miss what happened especially in anime when i have to be reading. these 2 are pretty good reactors imo, i think they just dislike emilia for their own reasons or from a misunderstanding of her character which is fine. its why reactors pause when they need to say something or notice a detail.
i try and offer a respectful disagreement and really try my hardest not to come off negative. or just a perspective on why i like a character or moment. its okay to agree AND disagree, as long as you respectful and understanding.

Yeah, you're the ones that are not getting it... Emilia is the star of the season and this is the moment where everyone started to understand it. EXACTLY because she doesn't accept Subaru's confession at first, it would have been so cliched if she did. Oh and that kiss was huge for her.
But and this is important, don't be afraid to be wrong, people watching reactions aren't really bothered by it...

I also didn't like Emilia this far into the series. She's a lame character that gets forced onto the audience through Subaru's one-sided obsession.
I do admit to liking her by the end of season 2 though. (Rem is still better)

RE:Zero had one good romance, with Rem, but the author decided to push for a bland, insipid love interest for Subaru: Emilia. You're not the only ones who didn't give a fack about their love story, it's just not interesting. But the anime has already showed that it can have a good romance, the author just refused in favor of... this.

the romance with rem wasn't good at all for both rem AND subaru. if you can't see the fact that rem deeming herself as worthless and always putting subaru above her as not healthy then idk what i can tell u. rem needs to learn to love herself first before loving anyone else

    • @xenotypos
      @xenotypos 4 місяці тому

@@woo7397 Emilia's "romance" is way worse. And it's not like Rem was doomed to remain the same all her life, changing is part of the process. If anything, Subaru made her more accepting of herself. Well anyway the interactions between Rem and Subaru were just way more interesting. That's it. Emilia is like a selfless doll telling herself she's selfish (???? pure japanese moment), crying, being a good girl, not understanding anything, crying, crying, and having convoluted thoughts that make no sense at all. In the anime, that all you get of her. No matter how it may or may not be in the novel.

You really are rem sucker are you lol ofc there is no perfect love story for Subaru and that what makes it perfect bcz Subaru can learn and fix every problem in the way and btw fyi every great plot Tappei made even from very beginning, all of his interaction with rem is base on Emilia so if you stupidly say Subaru Emilia love are useless you dont get the masterpiece form re zero 😂
