To the extent that they are used at all now it's more or less humorous or just to mock the term. Not once in the Marines did I ever hear a new guy referred to as a FNG...we didn't have time for that foolishness.
Yeah it sure was pretty. But the F14 Tomcat and the F4 Phantom were the two meanest lookin aircraft ever. Oh almost forgot the F8 Crusader was prettier than the Falcon
@@k.h.1587 Yeah but the F8 was the original "Gunfighter". But now talking about "ugly", th A6 was so ugly it was cute. The baddest anywhere anytime any weather bomber the US ever had considering it was a medium bomber. Stepdad was an AQCS in VA115, an A6 squadron on the Midway in the mid 70s
So, if I understand this correctly, one can get a free ride in an f16 but only if they're a somebody? A special person, famous in some way. Of some significance to sporting or popular culture and is therefore of public relations or recruiting value to the military? That must mean that they are more deserving and or better people right? But the rest of us taxpayers can piss off and go whistle Dixie if we'd like to take a couple high G turns, even though technically we all contributed our hard-earned toward those planes and continue to contribute toward paying the pilots. Whatever, I say. America becomes greater for the wealthy and the famous everyday , to hell with the regular folks though.
I guess you didn't hear of two F-16s who launched on 9/11. There was no time to arm the aircraft as they took to the skies looking for one of the hijacked aircraft. With no arms, both pilots knew there was only one way to bring it down and both were prepared to ram the aircraft if they could find it. The two pilots who were available to fly as soon as they got their orders was a fairly new pilot and the other was her squadron commander. As far as these two F-16s, Springfield Ohio is a little bit far from New York, Pennsylvania or Virginia. In this case since they were out on the gunnery range, they were probably getting in their training hours that are required of fighter pilots.
Michael Kwan Like you stated, There was no time to arm the aircraft as they took to the skies looking for one of the hijacked aircraft. And like I said. seems like a waste of tax paying money if they wont have any time? So what's the point? second chance isn't cutting it for the american tax payer!
I really don't understand why it's a waste of taxpayers money. A pilot has to log so many hours of proficiency flying. If they flew simulated aerial combat over a gunnery range, they are completing their mandatory training hours for that type of flying and since they were over a gunnery range, it was probably all set up so that combat air controllers also got their chance to get their proficiency training on the ground. The cost per flying hour for high performance military aircraft is quite expensive and they have to account for those hours. If you take a passenger up on a training mission, it really doesn't change the cost of the training mission. As far as arming the aircraft, the pilot doesn't arm the aircraft, there are weapons loaders on the ground who do that and the procedure takes about two hours. The point is that on a moments notice, these two pilots took off on what could have been a suicide mission but they had the commitment to do what they had to do. They knew there was no second chance and rather than hang around until the weapons loaders could load live ordinance on the aircraft, they took to the air.
Give me a break. 9/11 was just about possibly the worst situation US air defences could have been confronted with. Passenger a/c packed with civilians, and no clear intentions. You think you could have been a fighter pilot and shot down one of these planes, or rammed one? Pretty easy to second guess.
