    Years ago o baka dekada na nga, na infection din tuhod ng Lola ko after operahan by a well known doctor. Actually isa sa naging pasyente nya is dating presidente. Grabe nabulok talaga yung tuhod days after. Aminado si Doc na may mali talagang nagawa & he was very very sorry.
Rest in peace po. 🕊️

    I am a nurse-physician. I am saddened by this unfortunate event that happened to Dr Iggy. He didnt deserve this. Infections, bleeding, injuries can be part of complications which are part of informed consent. If it was well explained and signed by the patient, it means that he/she is aware of what may be the consequences.

Social workers may even be involve to make sure the patient takes the appropriate decision that could affect his and his family life and long term health. I'm a medical doctor and I do not understand one crucial aspect of the case. It is claimed that there was reckless imprudence by using an unsterilized instrument, leading to the infection. The thing is, it is NOT the responsibility of the doctor to sterilize instruments but the hospital's. A surgeon is given instruments in the OR and he or she assumes they are properly sterilized. There is no way to know if adequate sterilization has occurred just by looking at the instruments. How then can the court say Dr. Iggy is guilty when he has no responsibility in sterilizing instruments? I'm not a surgeon but I've assisted plenty of times in the operating room and surgeons are just given the instruments that are sterilized by specific personnel of the hospital. So how come this case prospered when the very foundation it rests upon is questionable? The hospital should have been the one charged in the lawsuit because it's the one responsible for ensuring the sterility of instruments. Even if the instrument was his, it is not a doctor's expertise to sterilize them and it is left to trained personnel to do so.

      What is important is to go back to the patient's consent. The first and foremost is to make sure that he consented to this surgery.
      If he agreed to that, then why would he still file lawsuits against the Dr. he already understood the risks and was very much aware of it. It is simply injustice to the Doctor who has gone through painstaking studies just to be able to practice his profession and just that he was gone inside a jail where he could have spent all the remaining years of his life saving other people who were sick and deserving of help.

    At the onset of infection, patients usually notify the surgeon and the hospital. And proper antibiotic therapy started after examination. Maybe another stay at the hospital. The question is, was there a followup after the initial operation.
    Infection can be caused by a variety of factors. His medical malpractice insurance could have solved the case and not jailtime.
    The only consolation of his passing is he passed of natural cause and not of a violent act.
    With my deepest condolences to his family... and Rest in peace..

    This is a sad news.
    Infection post operation is sometimes beyond any doctor's control. In fact, it could be due to more than one reason- patient factor included.
    I've encountered countless patients being unmindful of their care after being hospitalised the moment they feel that they're better, when in fact their utmost responsibility is warranted. That's when complications occur.
    This unfortunate development will make a huge shift among medical professionals knowing that they could be sued helplessly amidst their altruistic service.

The infection could have started at home.. the infection could have started from inadequate hospital sterilization of the instruments or facility involved.. I was wondering why the lawyer did not sue the hospital instead. How the lawyer established that the surgeon caused the infection... Was there any witness that that doctor used unsterile equipment or unsterile procedure during the operation?

      Tanga! Prevention of infection is part of any surgery. It is a well know fact that many patients get infected after surgery so doctors must make sure infection does not happen. that is the reason why there is post surgery check up to make sure there is no infection.
      did you know if this doctor even did a post surgery check up?

    As a med student, post-op infection is a common complication since it is very hard to be sterile all the time. For sure the instruments used during the procedure were all sterile, however once the patient is out of the OR, the environment is not sterile anymore, much more in a hospital setting wherein alot of other patients are carriers of those bacterias, viruses, and fungus. What did the lawyer expected? Doctors are only humans, we cannot control everything. That lawyer took a great doctor down, for what? For vengeance? Power tripping? Lol doctors saves lives as well as other allied medical fields, whereas lawyers defend their clients, innocent or guilty of crime they will defend that client.

    • @sammy_trix
      @sammy_trix 9 місяців тому +8

      Exactly on point. It was really hard to keep all things sterile. Even some kind of droplets can spoil the whole thing. Sometimes some of the microbes survived the technique using heat. Aside from this, there are just things outside the control of the Surgeon, some of it comes to the negligence that is on the part of the patient not following the advice of the Doctor.
      This is a prime example of using power as a weapon of vengeance to make excuses for his ignorance and hard-headedness. Such a lawyer should be ashamed of himself.

      Ive read the court ruling, it was never proven that the arthroscope was the cause of the infection or the said tool is really not sterilised.. however docs side failed to comply with necessary docs with the alloted time of the court thus resulted to his 1yr jail..

      If the doctor was negligent of his duties, dapat lang na makasuhan. Napakaraming kaso ng doctor's malpractice. Naging big issue lang to dahil namatay si doc, pero walang kinalaman ang kaso niya sa death niya. 1 year lang ang sentence ng court. Hindi basta basta hahatol ang korte ng walang basehan. Maraming inimbitahan ang nga yan, mga experts din sa medical field to weigh on the case. Tama lang ang na kinasuhan yan.

    • @streptococcus007

      @@Lhekiiexsz Lol, please read again my comment. POST OP INFECTION IS A COMMON COMPLICATION OF ANY SURGERY THAT IS WHY PATIENTS ARE ALWAYS TOLD BY THE DOCTOR BEFORE OPERATION ABOUT THE RISKS. If you have researched a little bit about the case, the late doctor had the chance to appeal the case and provide their own evidences, but they were unable to do so within the 45 days given to them, if they had done and appeal it for sure he wont be found guilty because again, post op infection is not the fault of the doctor. You think post op infection is rare and should be shouldered by the physician?? If thats the case, all doctors should be imprisoned lol. For sure, no doctor in the entirety of their profession hasn't experienced post op infection with their patients. Doctors are not Gods who can control the bacterias, fungus etc. Please next time before commenting be sure to know the details first, and not just comment anything. Mema ka lng eh di ka nmn doctor nor an attorney lol

    • @streptococcus007
      @streptococcus007 9 місяців тому +6

      @@Lhekiiexsz and if you'll say that it is the doctor's fault in using unsterile materials, then you're totally wrong. Its not the surgeons job to do the sterilization of the OR along with the equipments used, it is the the job of the hospital staff. And mind you that every surgery, especially in this case a major surgery, the patient will sign a waiver wherein he is accepting the risks of the surgery. This case has now been reopened, even my lawyer friends were shocked about the decision because again you cannot blame the surgeon for post op infection lol.

That is a common complication after an operation, although can be avoided the judge should be fair enough not to convict him. Rest in peace doc.
