What a sweet and passionate guy. He had an amazing setup and I love that he could fit a composting toilet in the van! Absolutely incredible. Perfect use of space and fantastic add ons!

What I love about this guy is how he is such a tech geek on one hand - so into the gadgets and the cool stuff the van can do, but then there is the psychedelic hippy side with the tie-dyed ceiling and the colored lights!
He's put a lot of thought and effort into getting that van setup like that, the only thing I don't like is the lack of space to lounge around in, but I don't think he had the intention to just sit around relaxing in it, it's a van to have adventures in.
If you're over it you can always BnB for a little bit.
Otherwise, the world's your backyard :)
becouse it is really small van. It is tiny very light van created for off road. But solar panel? huge battery? water tanks? that a lot of weight ;(

That's EXACTLY how I'd do it! Everything contained and uncluttered.
I know many people living in vans and have seen many different builds. This is by far the best design.

I love how excited he is about his van! He just wants to show you all of it and really loves it.
That way of living is ideal for free spirit persons. I wanted to experience the way of life in the last part of my life journey for well over 20 years but too many obstacles stopped me. I like what I have seen. I admire your freedom.

Did John ever build his Tiny House? With that level of ingenuity, I’d love to see what he’d come up with.
Really enjoyable look at what John's accomplished. It's always interesting to see the choices people make regarding the essential things they need and where and how they place those things in a van.
I love these little beasts. The blokes set up was really cleverly done. Yeah, quite a bit of moving stuff around, but that's to be expected. I like how he isn't full of himself and is even a bit awkward listening to they worthy praise that the interviewer (forgot his name, lol) gave him.
He *really* thought that through and the snorkel is awesome. Bravo.

I love that in this highly functional vehicle, he found room for some flimsy things, like the lights, the rainbow fabric in the ceiling, a tiny disco ball and a bookshelf.
What a great project, doesn't look like he forgot a thing! Thanks for the share!
An epic van ... good to taste the ride too in the water
My Dad had a L300 when I was a teenager. I miss it, so square which was perfect for a camper and conversions. Now he needs to convert it to an EV and be fully (well mostly) independent. Solar is freedom!

my mate bought one those ,within first hour he managed to drown it in the river , had the water up over the windscreen , meanwhile the stock air filters right behind the front wheel , it sucked water but we still managed to drive it home , great modification
solar is a common upgrade now in rv's and survival vehicles, its nice seeing people use solar so much
Solar is the big key that makes you fully off the grid capable. I preach solar panels to everyone who has a house, RV or van. :)
I love the L300! It´s the almost perfect (could do with lesser overhang in the front) BOV. This one´s just the way I would build my one. Congrats!
You can really take it anywhere. Sleeping right on the beach is nice.

Now that is what I call a mobile home. You find the most amazing people and their homes. You and they are an inspiration to many people including myself. It gives me some great ideas to try and do many things around my home.

I can always see Mitsubishi Delicas like those here in our country and I've always thought about its potential as a go anywhere RV. First time in UA-cam someone like you sir have finally made a proper setup for that vehicle. Very well done it's a true sleeper and it's even more fantastic with all the little simple things with great functionality that you've done inside. Sir, I hope your van can last for more years :)

I was inspired by them as I saw this van for real in South America in the Chilean Patagonia region.

traveled newzealand, 1 month for both islands, with a rented minivan myself (not even close to this level of functionality of course, decent but still stock renting kind)
i think this 4x4 miniwonder is the best vehicle any traveller could wish for in such a country!

cool van , well thought out! too small for my taste but I see the value in such a compact vehicle for sure especially if shit hit the fan, the more compact and minimal you can be the better. my 8,000 pound beast couldn't go half the places this thing could squeak into and hide out. These guys seem like pretty cool dudes as well! thanks for making the video.

Awesome :) All it needs is a tent that can be attached to the back, for a bit of extra room when parked, oh and a short wave radio, and ... actually, I think he's got everything else covered. Good job. Wish I'd seen that metal plate he was talking about under the engine base.
I have a waterproof UHF short wave radio (5watts) & fully functional GPS until all in one. Its shown in the video on my dash bard. As for the tent, I thought of that, but the cost to modify this was too much for the actual return on investment. I have a 4 season Mountain Hardware tent stored inside for nice nights.

I've been binge watching your videos for years. I'm just hoping such things would pick up soon in my side of the world as well, here in India. We do have a caravan rental company, Trippy Wheels set up in the city of Bangalore and I can't wait to try out an adventure trip with my girls on that one. We'd hopefully camp around the Agumbe rainforest in the post pandemic world. ✨

The pop up idea is very good and I thought of that, but because I wanted a large solar panel, roof basket and the fact this a SWB (short wheel base) makes that not possible. There's a game of give & take I suppose eh? 👍🤓

He needs a winch on the front and rear. As long as you can hook onto something or backup he would never be stuck. I'm Canadian from Ontario. Here in Ontario especially in the snow belts off of the Great Lakes we get a shit load of snow. Being from Lucan and London you can go to bed with maybe an inch or two of snow on the ground and wake up with 4,5,6 feet of snow outside. That's a meter or two for my NZ or Aussi cousins. I still have to put it in Imperial terms for the Yanks right the river from here.
A water tank that can hold a few days of potable water that can be pressurized from the tap of water at refilling or turn on your water pump and/or a small compressor.
A small water recovery system that can collect moisture from the air with an applicable filtration system.
A small stainless steel double sink. Several small wind generators that can recharge his batteries any time of day. Being close to water has the highest average wind speeds.
I looked into a winch system as you say, but the added cost meant heaps more. Also, I would've have seriously retrofit the chassis to do that. Considering the amount of cash I put into this beast already, it's something that might come in the future, but I'd have to create a new custom bull bar from scratch in order to accommodate both the LED light bar and a winch.
For now, I have Maxx Traxx and an 11,000kg ARB snatch strap. The best way to avoid trouble is to have thr foresight to see it coming in advance. :)
+skibumwa2001 Um thinking more like Ontario and 6 feet of snow. I've had 4 wheelers in the past when u was a younger man. The which can be placed at either pull point on the truck. Yeah can't be going off road without a winch, period. It's an absolute must. You don't want to be caught at the cottage or the lake snowmobiling without proper kit.

I already asked the 4WD specialist about a winch system. They said my bullbar and etc will need to be redesigned in order do that. The cost would be massive compared to what I have already spent. I don't have the budget for it mate..

We had a van like this before. You can buy one for 4000-6000 dollars. Right hand drive of course but we convert it to left hand. Problem is you cant convert the rear sliding door to the right so you might as well live with it. Opening directly into traffic lol

Not bad. Wind the front torsion suspension up, fit a set of 31x10.5s (they do fit) then chase few landcruiser out the way :)

I gots me almost the same 🚌. But I keep it simple: Storage and bed..in europe anything you need is 10 min away..so why the $$$ for overkill is my motto. Nice stuff though..and the storage curtains I may need to copy!
cattleNhay by law he needs the bells and whistles to be allowed to live/camp in his car. They showed the blue sticker, proving compliance.
The bells and whistles are a mandatory required water supply, a grey water process, toilet, and sink. Other than those, the rest are my options.

I had this van (L300 4WD it was called here, also with the turbodiesel) here in Germany a couple of years ago. It was professionally converted into a camper van, with an extended roof etc. I loved it so much. BUT: The gearbox is too weak, they break down at around 160.000km (mine a bit later). It's impossible to get used gearboxes you can trust and repairing it cost heaps of money.

No can do. With a solar panel permanently installed I can't change the roof any more than it already is.
