Say that!! Never again will it ever be matched. And for me neosoul was an appropriate title for the genre. Like some many like me, we grew up on Chaka Khan, Curtis Mayfield, and Marvin Gaye. So we knew what soul was. And we realized that soul lost its way for us somewhere in the 80s between pop and R&B. Luckily, hip hop artists we used to dig like Tribe Called Quest had stepped in to fill the void. By the time we were grown with children of our own, when hip hop began losing its way, there was neosoul like a breath of fresh air to folks who were suffocating from music that had no soul!
It has powerful death vibe to it, but in a good sense I mean... Dilla too I think had the same approach about time flowing by, years passing, shit staying the same, loving ones beginning to disappear as life goes on. And on. And on... Great track. Keep your sh*t going everyone, life is good!
This dude just has a way with chords, melodies and harmonies. I honestly don't remember him being associated with anything less than great, from his albums all the way down to these unreleased instrumentals. True genius.
@kingnapz i was wondering if you have any more instrumentals like this one I'm desperately searching for this type of throwback rnb feel for my debut album king 💯
amazing to hear more than 20 year old D'Angelo material for the first time right now. Been allll over those Voodoo-outtakes! like the rest i'm super curious where this came from...!
This right here man is so smooth I just looove love the vibe and the use of the samples man. I can hear Kool&the gang and a sample playing throughout, which Nicolay (as Foreign Exchange?) used. Thank you for sharing wow
@@ChokeArtist411, Yup. It’s an Ensoniq EPS16+ sampler Rhodes piano sound with envelope filter set to the modulation wheel. Came straight from their demo disks. There is a fretless bass he liked to use on that same disk.

yup this was definitely meant to be on Brown Sugar but sadly didn’t make it. if you’ve listened to the full album more than a thousand times like me, you’ll know all the riffs all the beats and each and every single instrument included in each song. Brown Sugar was good but this just sounds too good, to the point where it didn’t qualify to be on the album, that’s how good it is.
@@kofiperry19 I think you're right, after listening to it a million times. Sounds like a cut from Brown Sugar that never made it. A lot of soul and emotion in this regardless.
This is why I love UA-cam. Something rare and precious is hidden in all those garbages.
wise words.
90s style neo-soul of this caliber will never be equalled again

I believe he's playing a rhodes through a wah wah to get this mysterious beautiful sound
This D'ude truly has some great music in him.

Deep Bro🖤
Perfectly put
This should’ve been a song that went in between “Alright” and “Jonz In My Bonz” in his first album “Brown Sugar”
Every now and then, you hear a song that you’d want played at your funeral. This is one of those songs
Imagine all the people two-steppin and licking they lips at the service while this is playing
This is the most ethereal and beautiful of all the ones I've heard 💯
D'Angelo is a legend.

It makes no sense
Thats that Marvin Gaye spirit that dwells deep inside of this brother.
Damn, D'Angelo getting his George Duke on here
This is dope! The drums definitely sound like "I've found my smile again" smooth track.
Yep, that’s the first thing that I also thought...
This is amazing brother This joint definitely has that brown sugar pre voodoo era vibrations

Gotta be my favourite song to just chill to.. I could have this on repeat forever
how good is this shit absolute pleasure to hear
Bust’d a MADD NUTT @ 5:37. D’Angelo is the epitome of that early 90’ sound that I miss so much.
It’s just such a crazy transition.
I have never in almost 44 years had a ‘favourite song’. Until today.
One listen is not enough for this 👍🏾
FASHO!
Bro where'd u get this from? an what tape is it from?
wooaahh could this be brown sugar outtakes? I know there's a whole voodoo outtakes album
brown sugar riff at 4:52 and a quiet guitar lick at 6:06 that sounds like "I found my smile again"

I believe Marvin Gaye would appreciate it. I love it ❤
Early version of “I Found My Smile Again” I think?
