I've noticed that with a lot of newer sports, or at least sports that haven't been main stream for very long, anyone who is competitive in that sport only has a few true peers that they likely see at most events. I imagine the number of world class disabled sprinters is a much smaller number than non-disabled. I would bet most of the runners in this race have met multiple times in the past and are all in a much smaller club than traditional olympic athletes. If you compare traditional marathon running to ultra-marathon running you will notice a similar thing, ultra runners know each other and in some cases meet up before events to hang out for a few days. Traditional marathon running is one of the oldest competitive sports in history, there are more people in that event than almost any other sport which means they rarely see the exact same athletes at each event.

smaller overall community and fewer sports in the Paralympics means more overlap in training areas/gyms and more people pushed together. Of course they form bonds!
