I had to laugh at the You Tube ad at the beginning of the video. It was about all of the electronics in a Ford F150 and it ended with who are you going to trust with diagnosing a problem. Suggesting the highly trained Ford dealership. While I am screaming, Ivan you fool. Probably not the best placed advertisement. Sure made my day.
Did @Thomas EXOVCDS not trouble shoot this to be the fuel pump relay (number 409)? I'm currently trouble shooting it whether it is responsible for a crank, no start issue on my 2004 Jetta. I cleaned the contacts of the relay (if it really is the relay). There was a bit of crud from the spark on the really contacts.
not sure it matters but when the car wouldn't start the indicator light for an open door in the instrument cluster was lit but when it was starting the light wasn't working or flashed briefly and went out. I'll watch the rest of the video and see what happens
Yeah noticed that too. I suspect some rudimental security system was acting up and someone tried to deactivate it. It worked fine but the open door sensor will still deactivate the motor control system, which is intermittently, since the switch is broken.
My 2002 Jetta had a similar issue to this one, but it didn't stall/not start with the drivers door open. What happened is it stopped recognizing when either of the front doors was open, there was a short period of time after this had begun where it would recognize the drivers door being open, but not the front passenger.
Under normal circumstances, opening the door triggers the fuel pump as one can hear it upon entering the car. This problem has to have something to do with the door switch.
Hey Ivan am working my way through your vids so i just got to the point where you pull like 12 codes. Question? So i work for an equipment dealer here in New Zealand that i Can't name for legal reasons (CAT wink wink nudge nudge) which sucks because i cannot post any vids of troubleshooting i do & believe me i get some out there problems but getting back to the question with OBD ll do you not have time reference & counter info. With our system when you get logged codes you have first last & number of occasions of each code in ECM or Machine hours. I watch a lot of you automotive guys & no one seam to have that option. For example if i have 12 codes & 10 of them are just 1 or 2 times over the last 500 Hrs but 2 happened 50 times in the 20 Hrs of operation i chase them. How do you get direction or do OBD ll codes not hold in memory for long if not active. Ok back to the video
motoYam82 What I believe, if its your case, is the oxidation of the contact pins. I don't know if It's related to the materials which VW uses for its relays or the relay box compartment with poor sealing.
motoYam82 New good work =) In many VW the relay 109 or 108 (i don`t remenber well) is cause similar symptoms, is very typical in VW many DTCs but 12 i was never to seen. Greetings from Spain =P
funny that was my thought as well... I was wondering if it could be an anti-theft fuel cut off gone hay wire... but have to watch the rest of the vids to find out... actually the fact that the service engine light is lit makes me think that it is probably a computer issue..
I have 2004 jetta 2.0 previous owner put aftermarket stereo in it shuts off and on randomly causes car to stall at stop signs when radio on has power wire for stereo ran to fuse box can anyone help me thanks
Johnny Weymer aftermarket wiring harness adapter bridges the can bus to power, replace with the correct adapter if it exists, I always just cut and taped off the two k-line/can bus wires
orfeous Well that's equivalent to opening the door! But here something definitely changes when the door is open/closed, so the switch seems to be functional...mostly.
IVAN, YOU ARE AS PERFECT AS ALWAYS WITH PRESITANT LOGIC, I DID WATCHED THE 3 PARTS. YOU ARE AMAZING AS ALWAYS THANKS

After seeing all those short or plus codes I would look at the harness in the engine bay then check each feed...love the vids keep em coming
haven't finished watching yet... the yellow ground splice at the coil is a TSB to solve ignition coil fault codes.
Back to the video... :-)
***** ah cool. Good to know!

Great video, I'm having similar issues, when trying to start it the dash lights up, but it clicks one time, battery is new, any ideals.
It was clear the first time it died when door was opened. Wire harness into door or drivers door latch
Me paso lo mismo con un Beetle 99 . solo encendía con la puerta cerrada. La falla era el relay 409 por estúpido que parezca!!
Any friend of Eric O. is a friend of mine! Subbed.
Besides an intermittent nightmare I don't know. I am going to guess some type of grounding issue?
Did you figure out the problem?
Mine is a 2010 Jetta that won’t start, is there a fix for that one? It won’t crank at all, I just turn the key, and nothing.
The infamous fuel pump relay?
Full Function Why is the FP relay infamous? What exactly goes wrong with them?

I hate when that happens. A customer brings you their vehicle and the problem disappears
Door switch fail leading the fuel pump not to prime or one rusty ground could explain this
great work.. i hate german vehicles so mcuh. you have great patients and logical thinking awesome video

Your cruse control is on
My guess for the fix is that it's something to do with that damn door module.
Body ground is lost when door open
Door switch shorted to ground

Gee, a VW with an electrical problem!? GO figure...
your diagnostic techniques are absurd
How so?
