"I was just trying to leave something behind." I know now that I will have left behind the most valuable thing I could ever have imagined. I will have lived my life in a fashion that caused the most important person in it to be Happy. I never answered the question I've been so often asked regarding staying with the same person for 56+yrs and what the 'secret' is. There are a couple of obvious 'secrets.' You will have disagreements. Don't EVER allow them to become nasty and learn to and accept to "agree to disagree." Maybe the most important is to never ask your 'partner in life' to change. I have to say that generally men are creeps. We are. Often a man will charm (the pants off😏) a woman for one reason and we all know why. Once he has her trust and love all of a sudden there is something about her that he wants her to change about herself. Trust me women no matter how you feel about him run don't walk away from a relationship with this guy. The requests to change will never stop. If someone wants you to change something about yourself they didn't like or love you in the first place. Women also do this but nowhere near as frequently as men do. Eyes open everyone. Watch how your partner treats others. A great way to learn about someone's character, integrity and respect for others when you have only recently met them and are learning about who they are is to go out to eat or something like that. Watch closely how they treat service people. Waiters, waitresses, cab drivers anyone you as a couple receive any type of service from. If they are rude, hurtful and disrespectful toward them eventually they will treat you just the same. It may seem that there are a lot of 'secrets' but think about what I've written. It's really almost all about whether the person you are interested in treats others the way they expect to be treated. Respect is the 'secret.' 🙏God Bless You All🙏

Perhaps on a more simplistic level, there's the 1970 album by the obscure song-smith, Paul Siebel, Woodsmoke and Oranges, that includes the song, "The Ballad of Honest Sam" that fifty years on might still be relevant. I'm 72yrs old I presently am staying in a nursing facility recovering from a horrifying auto accident. I'm very happily married to my best friend. We have been together since we were 16yrs old and neither of us has been with another. I was up all night a couple nights ago just stunned at the realization that I have been so deeply in love for 56yrs to the same incredible woman! I don't know any other man that can say that. I've been asked dozens of times by the females working with me "What's the secret?" I had no answer. I read through my journals several times and finally saw the answer. Joann, my wife, has faults several of them like all humans do but I never once brought any of them up ever. That might have made her unhappy and I was not happy if she wasn't happy. I was up part of the night I mentioned trying to think of what I was 'leaving behind' if my illnesses took me the way they could. I have little money, jewelry, gold or other valuables. I realized at that time what, if I passed that I was 'leaving behind.' I wanted to know that 'I was leaving something behind.' Joann visits me every single afternoon and stays until midnight. Our home is ten minutes away. She sacrifices for me daily it's truly amazing to the people here at the facility. She is always smiling and happy according to her, especially because I'll be coming home soon. At that thought I knew what I was leaving. All I ever wanted in my life since I was sixteen years old was to make Joann happy. I knew then that when I passed I'd be leaving behind my wife, lover and life long best friend.........Happy🥰😍

I'm following in your path sir. I'm 64, and I've been with my best friend since I was 17. My scare came 2 years ago with Lymphoma non-Hodgkins cancer. She, along with a lot of good neighbours got me through some angry, times, but I'm clean so far, but the cancer/chemo changed me, and she's steering my back. I owe her everything. Good future for you and your family.
