Harvesting Potatoes With Horsedrawn Machinery And Irish Cob Horses (and some people).

- We grow a few rows of potatoes every year and this is how we harvest them. We use two horses and two sorts of horse-drawn implements - a potato spinner and a potato plough. And a homemade tip-up cart. And some very helpful people. (Thank you to them!)
We hope this gives you an idea of some of what horses can do. (There will be a lot more coming up on this channel over the coming months because they are a big part of what we do here.)

Hello, from (currently) Redding, CA (USA) My name is Will and I have fam. in Kilkee (the Shea's) Great vid.! Hello to all the good people who work the land.
What a nice, fun day with family friends, and horses.
Reminiscent of days when a man was wore out at 40 - 45 yrs. rc
+Rusty Case It's that time of year again - just planning this year's harvest..
Nice job. When I use the plow I only make one pass and then pickup the potatoes before making another pass. This help to not cut the ones on the ground. Some time I have to plow one row 5 times to get them all. thanks, Gary
I love your videos. I sure do miss the farm I grew up on as a child . Hard work, but good times and the best good. someday....... :)
So happy to find you. It is wonderful seeing how you use drafts in your garden/field in Ireland. Very interesting. We live in the USA.
Welcome!
Nice potato harvest. Am impressed with your horses demeanor, they have a job to do and they just calmly do as either of you tell them and that's that. Beautiful Gentle Giants. Mrs. Tc

Picked potatoes behind one of those contraptions n the 1950s....there was a sort of hanging screen to one side to prevent the potatoes from being too scattered.
JUST FOUND YOUR CHANNEL LOVE IT GOD BLESS,
Thanks Contreeman - welcome aboard!
Great video! Looks like you had lots of fun :-)
you have to have been on the handles of a potato plough to appreciate just how HARD it is!
That is so cool
Good harvest! Thank you for sharing! I also subscribed to your channel.

If you can find one with the same character as Henry then you'll be doing well : - )
I was wartching your "Work-Horses Playlist" and I couldnt help but wonder if you guys have any videos of flora when she was a filly? If you do im sure all of us would love to see it, or even just a video format slideshow of her growing up! Shes such a beautiful young mare
I'm sure we filmed her lots of times. Hmmm. I'll talk to Sandra and see if she remembers what happened to the videos...

awesome video dude ! keep working on that :) cheers
nice video...but that isn't a true potatoe plow...that's a single row hand lister..enjoyed the video though
Thanks Brad. You're probably right, of course. But I can't help but think of that famous song "I say potato, and you say single row hand lifter" : - )
not a big deal..when i was little our neighbor still planted corn with a two row lister. That is why i know what it is.
