Interesting fact: Isayama said in the interview he had a couple days ago about the finale that the reason he ended the story with Paradis falling is because he felt it was the most realistic outcome because Paradis achieving permanent peace wasn't believable and he wanted to create an ending that would reflect our own world on if this situation was happening here and what the result would be. Hearing that from Isayama really makes it hard to refute his reasoning behind destroying Paradis

Did you notice the connection between the first and last episode of the series?
In the first chapter it began with Mikasa saying "See you later, Eren" and then he wakes up crying and says he feels like he forgot a long dream. That was probably the founding Titan showing him the entire life as planned.
And Mikasa's last words were "See you later, Eren" when she kisses him.
    ❤❤❤

Levi’s “give your hearts” salute to his dead comrades as tears rolled down his cheek hit me hard. His “No Regrets” has brought him closure. His physical condition will always be a reminder to honor the sacrifices of his fallen comrades. He will always be my favorite character. Lastly,
I was just glad we didn’t lose any of the last surviving members of the scout regiment.

I rewatched your reaction video and I still am processing 😢
I cried when Jean didn't let go of Reiner's hand in the battle. In the past Jean was the one beating up Reiner at the campfire with exactly these hands.
Conny rode on Falco's back, together with Gabi - the two kids who killed his very best friend Sasha.
Reiner's clarity in knowing who he is now after all the hell he went through, after bearing all the feelings of guilt and shame because of always hurting and betraying someone...
Levi, who never had a chance to grieve - who had no family and his comrades and friends were either killed by titans or by his own hand - is crying for the first time. Finally.
I miss Hange. She would have demanded to take one of these grey coloured titans with her so she can examine it.
I miss Sasha. She would always have gone with her gut and would have told everyone not to grieve for too long - instead they shall have dinner with her.
I miss Erwin. Getting clarity and getting closer to the truth and earning knowledge was HIS accomplishment. He'd have been the best history teacher ever, making his father proud.
Thank you, Hajime Isayama. I am scared to know how many sleepness nights full of desperation you had, not only because how to write this story in a good way, but also how to handle history repeating itself and watching people suffer again and again.

I have to comment and say that even though the whole episode/movie was a masterpiece, my very favorite part, is seeing Bertholdt, Porco, Marcel, Grisha, Mr. Ksaver, Ymir and Eren Kruger come back and help their friends. I was waiting to see that I think the most animated.
I love the fact also that it wasn't hatred that Ymir (Founder) always obeyed King Fritz and the Royal bloodline for, it was love. Because although she had every right to hate them, she didn't, she has loved them for over 2000 years. And now that Ymir has finally gone to rest, I really hope she can be reunited with Maria, Rose and Sina. To see her daughters again, after so long. It all comes down to love.
I love how the bird that came to Mikasa wrapped her scarf around her and at that moment it was clear that Eren had been reborn as a bird.
And that is so symbolic because the bird motif has been there during almost every episode of the whole show.
The fact that Eren was reborn as a bird is so poetic because birds symbolise freedom, they're not limited or restricted by any walls or anything, they can just fly free and that's what Eren has wanted his whole life.
The ending credits were showing Eren's friends come and visit him over the years and once they got older and married and had children, they came to visit, and the ones in the last picture were Mikasa and her husband, I think. (She had the scarf all those years, so it's easy to recognize her)
And I'm not too sure, but Mikasa and Jean may have gotten married (at least I hope so, because Jean's always liked, loved and respected Mikasa, plus he was Eren's friend too so he would understand her on a deeper level) and yes, that lady in the end was Mikasa, she had the scarf and was buried with Eren. (l love how there was a ring on her finger, but she still kept the scarf. Showing that she found love, but never stopped loving Eren as well)

Attack on Titan absolutely has great rewatch value. I must have watched it through 4 or 5 times now, and it is still as impactful as it was in the beginning. For me, this series is a wonderful meditation on life, love, and death. It is incredibly bleak from start to end, but there is so much beauty and love in between all of that. It feels very true to life, and that's what keeps me coming back to it again and again. One of my all time favorite series.

Perfect Ending. A masterpiece. Eren sacrificed himself to end the titans, he saved his friends from death, since they were titan bearers, and in the end paradis was destroyed, I'm just sad about Mikasa's ending, even though she lived for 4 years with Eren on the paths .
Mikasa did what Ymir couldn't. This was what Ymir was hoping to see. Someone who could kill/turn her back on the one she loved. Mikasa was able to do this. Ymir wasn't there. That's why she was subservient to the King for 2,000 years, waiting for someone (Mikasa) to show her that it was possible.
Interesting fact: In the final scene, where the young man is about to enter the tree, the music (二千年... 若しくは... 二万年後の君へ・・・ · Linked Horizon ) eren's voice says: 2000 年もしくは2万年後の君 - For you in 2000 or 20,000 years...
Please watch the mikasa OVA that was released years ago, where she already knew she would have to kill Eren.

This finale is the greatest episode of any show I’ve ever seen. It absolutely exceeded my expectations. I already loved the ending in the manga, but the anime elevated everything to a whole different level. The animators went all out and delivered by far the best animation in the whole show. The OSTs used are absolutely beautiful and fit every scene perfectly.
Eren’s conclusion is a masterpiece. The scene with Mikasa beheading and kissing him is my favorite anime moment of all time. The adaptation in this scene in particular exceeded everything I hoped for.
The Rumbling is depicted in a terrifying and dark way I’ve never seen before in any anime. Everything being black and white except for the baby is art at its finest.
I also love the dialogue changes when Eren and Armin talk for one last time. In the manga, Armin thanks Eren for turning himself into a mass murderer, which is a bit unfitting to Armin’s character and led to a lot of controversy. Him instead thanking Eren for showing him the outside world is a lot more satisfying.
Attack on Titan is my favorite show of all time and now it also has my favorite ending in all of fiction. It’s perfection from start to finish without a single bad moment in the entire series. This has been an incredible journey and I can’t thank everyone who worked on this project, especially Hajime Isayama, enough for creating this masterpiece. It’s really hard to say goodbye to something that has changed my life forever. This is truly the end of an era.

Honestly the fitting ending I'd expect from something like SnK/AoT: no matter how much destruction, how much death, people experience, humans will forever repeat the same mistakes over and over again. And at the end of it all the cycle begins anew.

some details: The baby's mother, who falls on the cliff is the same pregnant woman that Eren crossed in Marley. Armin saying that in the race with Eren and Mikasa to the tree, he came last. At the end of the credits, after Mikasa's death, he reaches the tree last (he is the last to die of old age). Eren never opened his eyes in the rumble, only when Mikasa sliced his head off. In the end the story of the Titans would not be repeated, since the boy with the dog is not injured like Ymir (who wished for strength and life) when the parasite (hallucigenia) joins him.
There are more details. Sorry for my English.

  • @OnMyLunchBreak07

I personally don't think it will begin anew. Reason for it is that the source of all life only gave the titan powers to Ymir because she wanted them. She wanted to survive.
This boy isn’t running from war or death. He looks to just be exploring. So there is no gurantee he will ask for the same thing. So in a way it is a bit of a hopeful ending imo!! :)
Edit: also the final song's title implies its been 20,000 years since the age of titans. So at least for 20k years, Paradis was mostly peaceful. Eren succeeded in peace :)

    • @DraconiInfernalus

if the boy hit´s "the thing" again in that tree...who knows. ymir fell into that water by accident bc there was this slippery floor/stones. she just tried to find a hideout there. when you are out just exploring an unknown terrain (and that tree is unknown to the boy it seems) you can also fell into the water by an accident (this could be the beginning of a new cycle... who knows. life is a fking big cycle of life and death repeating itself). if the boy is not able to swim and panick the only thing he want in that moment is to survive. like ymir in the past. thats how nature works...try to survive. ymir was a kind and loving person too until all the other people around her pointing on her/betrying her letting the pig getting out of its cage and the king sets her "free" then. the interesting point is will titans change if the background is different when the boy "seems" to live in peace. bc the environment around is destroyed. you have no idea how that boy live in his timeline and whats happening...but after all that time the tree is still there. and maybe accidents, too

Of course it was gonna end on a cliffhanger, what did you expect?
This ending perfectly showcased the whole meaning of AoT again, this neverending cathartic cycle of hope and failure/relapses. And nevertheless even after everything was destroyed hope still prevailed, a chance for humanity to stop hindering its own progress still prevailed. An infinite hope. The cliff baby scene basically did the same
It’s been about 7 years since I started watching AoT and seeing this journey end was indescribable.

Mikasa ended up with Jean, she visits Eren's grave periodically, with her baby, then with her family as she is old. Then she is buried next to him. Eren achieved what he wanted, his friends lived their lives peacefully. But after a period of time, humanity still stays humanity, war is back, everything on Paradis is once again annihilated, it doesn't matter what the reason is, war never changes. And then further into the future, a child stumbles upon the tree, it is suggested that he will walk into the tree and the cycle begins anew. The end.

There are so many things you can pick up the second time through that you'll be amazed you didn't pick up on before (even though you'd have had no way to know). Little moments of foreshadowing, little details that if you caught them the first time you may have known some of what was coming. Like when Eren is going berserk on Annie in Stohess and he yells about how he'll destroy the whole world. That line just hits different now. At the end of it Mikasa opens her eyes in the exact same position as she was buried in, eyes in tears thinking its just another dream again but no, Eren is right there holding her hand with a yellow butterfly on his hand which represents rebirth, finally reunited in the afterlife free from war and cruelty of this world, together for eternity 😭

You remember when Eren had a physical fight with Armin and attacked Mikasa verbally by telling her that he hated her? Because Eren never had a chance in an argument against Armin and in a fight against Mikasa. So he changed his tactics.
And in this episode again: Eren forced Armin to fight him physically, both as titans. Mikasa had to fight against all her thoughts and feelings for Eren, against her instincts and her genetics to protect Eren. I only can imagine what it meant for her as a female. A female's intuition, especially a loving female's, is her very existential core. It is unbelievable to separate her from her instincts. Like a mama bear driving on her instincts and protecting her cubs.
All three were forced to bring the things to an end. It really took e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. of them.
What a brilliant piece of art AoT was, and how ambiguous and relevant it is especially today, unfortunately.

I just cant believe ppl hated the ending just cuz Eren confessed his feelings to Mikasa in front of Armin and they said it ruined aot for them and says it doesnt fit his character and it was all for nothing and im like bitch Eren didnt care about the future he only cared about his friends future man and im like did we watch the same show bruh Eren didnt loved Mikasa, it was all for nothing blah blah blah nah fuck that shit....
Few things to note that - Eren said his head got messed up cuz the future , past all exists simultaneously so he feels like he killed his Mom cuz he didnt the Founder Ymir did and it was fate since Ymir found that creature that turned her into the founder since then Erens fate was decided and thats just sad nothing else man.

To me, no other anime comes even remotely close to Attack on Titan. And I do not say that lightly. This is a masterpiece, perfection made anime. The story, the ost, the character development, the relationships, the godly animation, everything was just perfect. The ending isnt all peaches and cream and all goody goody. It paid a heavy price and eventually Paradis still gets destroyed centuries later and history repeats itself so we are back where we started.

    attack on titan
Memories of the future that Eren saw

Making Armin and the others heroes through Eren's death
Eren will be killed by Mikasa → As a result, the Titan's power will disappear.
The euthanasia plan is a plan to make Eldians unable to produce children by depriving them of their reproductive functions. The idea is to slowly euthanize the Eldians and make them extinct. By "preventing the birth of humans (Eldians) who will be born in the future," the long-standing historical ethnic problem will be resolved. →Eren Yeager rejected the euthanasia plan. Mikasa is not an Eldian. Even if Mikasa had given birth to someone's child after Eren's death, Eren would have given her blessing as well.
Attack on Titan is depicted from a perspective that is not based on the dualism of good and evil. A story where the victim becomes the aggressor rather than the enemy he is trying to exterminate. There are both good and bad aspects, and depending on your position, it is not simply depicted as good or bad.At the end, Paradis is exterminated.
Eren and Armin are aware of their sins. I could have avoided drawing this perspective. However, by intentionally emphasizing the story, we created a story that is not a simple binary of good and evil. In addition, true evil does not realize its sin in the first place. Armin was able to put himself in Eren's position, and he also wanted to make peace with the opposing forces. Eren and Armin also understood that some of the people who tried to kill them were good people.
The world hated Paradis and was trying to exterminate the Eldians. Eren, who saw his future memories, chose to protect Mikasa, Armin, and the people of Paradis Island.Eren became an Attack on Titan to make Armin and his friends into heroes. →The conversation is based on the assumption that Armin and the others will stop Eren Yeager's advance. Therefore, I understand that Eren Yeager was prepared to be killed by Armin and the others or Mikasa.
Because Eren Yeager says, ``When I die, please throw away this scarf. Mikasa will live a long time, so I want you to forget about me and be free. "No," he said. The conversation is based on the premise that Mikasa will kill you. Mikasa then decapitated Eren. Even if Mikasa were to spend time with someone else 10 years after Eren's death, Eren would be happy for Mikasa's happiness because Eren is an altruistic person.
Mikasa was able to decapitate Eren because she felt that Eren and Mikasa were able to spend four years happily together. Because Eren made Mikasa feel the four years of happiness they had spent together in an instant.
Eren said, ``For 2,000 years, I have been searching for someone who can free me from the pain of love... and when she finally appears, that person is Mikasa.'' →Eren sacrificed himself by becoming Attack on Titan and becoming a villain. As a result, he ended up in a world without titans. Eren's true intention was to protect Armin, Mikasa, and the others. Eren tells his friends that the giants will turn back into humans. Eren wished his friends long lives. Eren became Attack on Titan in order to get Mikasa to kill him for Mikasa, Armin, and the others. Eren made the ultimate self-sacrifice by becoming a villain. Eren truly loved Mikasa.

Reasons to why it’s a terrible ending.
1 How did his friends survive the titans? They lose Sasha to 3 titan shifters and 2 kids but lose no one against 100s of titan shifters?
    2. Zeke dying shouldn’t of stopped the rumbling. Ymir’s goal was to destroy the world so why didn’t Ymir just continue the rumbling after zeke died?’
    3. Zeke should of stopped the rumbling earlier because his dad telling him “ please stop Eren” didn’t give him motivation to die so he can stop it but armin showing a ball did?
    4. How did mikasa free Ymir?😂 and no it isn’t because she was able to kill her lover and move on no no no she didn’t move on for crap she still had that scarf on and got buried next to Eren.
5.Ymir doesn't have Stockholm’s syndrome, if she did why did she not heal herself when a spear went through her? If she had Stockholm’s syndrome she would of had the will to live for the king. Ymir’s character is terrible. She is in the paths because she is a slave to Fritz but disobeyed him twice?
    6 Eren ch139 (last 30 mins)
    “ I’m an idiot”
“I don’t know why I did the rumbling”
“ I moved forward for mikasas choice”
“ I did it to portray u as heroes” 💀💀💀💀
“ I would of killed them all if u didn’t stop me”
    Pre ch139
“Ill keep moving forward until I destroy my enemies “
“The only way to end the cycle of hatred is to bury it”😂
    7. What was the point of destroying 80%? eldia got destroyed. What did he achieve by doing that? He made the outer world hate eldians more and doomed paradises safety which he promised ( Eren only cared about Eldias safety not cycle of hatred so eldia bombing themselves is irrelevant for him)
    8. What was the reason for the rumbling ?
It defo wasn’t to make them look like hero’s because Eren said if u didn’t stop me I would of killed them all which is a contradiction.
    9. Erens mom death was pointless. He already said he killed her because it wasn’t bertholdt time yet 💀He already had the determination to lead him were he already is. When mikasa’s parents got killed he said “ if anyone tried to take away my freedom I won’t hesitate to take theirs” he also said to his dad that the kidnappers were scum and animals that needed to die. Eren before his moms death wanted to join the survey corps and venture outside the walls. If he found out the world wants to kill him he would of started the rumbling because they tried to take his freedom and we knew what Eren thinks about that. Erens view of freedom was killing everyone outside the walls so he 100% has the determination to do the rumbling. (Anyone who says Eren view of freedom wasn’t killing everyone u need to rewatch the last episode where he was talking to ramzi the kid
    10. In ch130 ( episode where the ships get destroyed in Marley) Eren thinks about his mom getting eaten by the titan and it being his main motivation for the rumbling which makes no sense since Eren should know that he killed his mom because this is when he sent armin to paths and told him everything. This could only mean that isayama changed the ending a year before it finished.
The best proof of this is that historia’s baby was born the same day as ch139 there was a fan theory of what they thought would happen which looks like this was what isyaama planned originally because the baby was born same day and all developed disappeared with historia which wouldn’t make sense if he didn’t change the ending. (Eren was meant to leave his titan crystal in paradise and touch his baby with royal blood to active the rumbling again)
11.The whole Eren at the cabin scene. How did eren interact with mikasas memories? She is an Ackerman he Shouldn't be able to do that. people who are saying this is a different timeline pls provide ur proof. If it is a different timeline why does Eren have titan marks? Why do they also grow bigger the closer Eren gets to death? They become massive when she is holding erens head representing that it was a fake memory. The bigger the titans marks the closer she gets to reality
    12. Eren crying like a baby for mikasa is a retcon. When did Eren ever cry like this for mikasa? He alway pushed mikasa away from him. When Eren found out he has a 8 years to live mikasa was in jail with him, did he care about her then? No he didn’t even care about mikasa when he found out he dosnt have long left to live even isayama said mikasa is a mother figure for him so how exactly does him crying like a baby fit his character?
    13. Eren said to armin he will show them the memories after he gets killed but shows it to mikasa before he gets killed?
    14. How did Eren turn into the collosal titan after zeke died?😂😂😂

Sadly I have to say I absolutely hated this ending. I understand a lot of people are emotionally invested in the story but this ending simply does not make sense.
Several characters like Eren Armin and Ymir were completely retconned, Eren got last minute new powers that we never knew about that can change the entire story and to end it all off the credits set up a sequel bait.
It just left me irritated with a sour taste in my mouth.
