Brilliant - thank you for this. I was just about to clean and tighten my wheel as it was a Christmas present last year and I wondered if I should take a look. I oil each time I spin but I don’t clean much!
Also I must thank you for your article on lazy kates...I hated mine and I bought the angled one (Louet) that you recommended - it’s amazing the difference. Plying is no longer stressful! 🙏
Hi Katie very enjoyable thank you. Could you tell me what the wheel was behind you when you were cleaning the large Norwegian type wheel. It’s a wheel with a double sort of wheel set up, like a beaver type? Thanks

It’s a German wheel called a Crazy Ella. It has an accelerator wheel type set up, so yes, like a beaver, but with modern engineering!

What kind f soap do you use? I use Murphy’s oil soap on my wheels they are tung oiled as well and after a while my husband will re-tung oil theM.
Just dish soap, it just needs to be something to remove any dirt and excess oil.
Thank you! What is the name of the thread & joining bits that you use for drive wheel bands? I am terrible at trying to join the ones with heat - my fingers & I would really love a different type.
Pony Bead Lacing. It won't work on all wheel types, but it's not expensive, so if it doesn't work you've not lost a great deal.
