I bought an IC-R8600 after watching your earlier videos about it. No problems with it so far. I really like it, although my JRC NRD-545 is a little more sensitive. Been SWLing since 1963 and a ham op since 1965. Wishing you a fast recovery. Regards from northern Illinois.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad your 8600 is working out and working good for you. That's great you have been in the radio hobby since the 60s and still going in it. I was born in 1966, and I started in 76 sitting in my Father's CB room.
You more than I, but we both have been around long enough to have definitely seen changes on the shortwave bands over the years. I've seen quite a few younger people get into SWLing but they don't stay long. I guess all the noise, static, and not the number of stations we used to have play some part in them not staying. I consider us in the senior class of the SWLing hobby. 😊 I'm in the southern tip of Illinois just outside my little hometown of Herrin. I have 40 acres in the country setting. Also thanks for wasting some time on my little channel. It's much appreciated.😊

Sorry to hear about your injury. Good thing that you have a hobby that lets you sit for a while. Hope tonight brings you lots of receptions.

@@KarlWitsman Thanks. I missed a step coming down the ladder doing some work in my house. I almost got the back of my head on a big table. Hit full force on my lower neck, shoulder and twisted my lower back. Can't hardly use my left arm or turn my head as of right now.
I figure I will use my Icom this week since it's 5 years today that I purchased it, and in 2 days five years since it was delivered ,hooked up and first power on.
Also thanks for watching my little channel. 🙂

Sorry to hear about you getting laid up. Always like your videos. The only problem - I want an 8600 now more than ever! 73’s from central TX!

Sorry to hear you were injured. Thanks for posting this video. I have had an 8600 on my list for a while now. Guess I need to pull the trigger and call DXE. Hope you are better soon! 73

I'm glad that I got it when I did. Like I said in my video they are around $2300 or more now. The gift card and rebate from Icom I had back when I got mine really helped me back then.

Thank you for this demonstration. May I, however, ask about reception on the LW: while I can receive loud and clear an AM broadcast at, for example, 200KHz on a Sony portable (ICF-7601L) with an even barely extended antenna, I get nothing but noise on the R8600 (long wire and Discone antennae). Am I missing or doing anything wrong? Thank you.
