    Windmills are a fun variant on two-beat weaves that you do around your head. They're great for level-changing among other things. He's the best technique I know for learning them--it also gives you some of the basic motor skills that go into a lot of other moves around the head.

    Fantastic videos! I purchased my first poi(podpoi off emazinglights) & got them Friday. I watched a couple of your videos and played around to EDM for a few hours. The 2nd time ever picking up poi, this Sunday, I was able to learn windmills just from your video. Flowing to music has become a budding passion of mine and my orbiter just wasnt cutting it. I got into a amazing flow last night for a couple hours. I'm hooked. Thanks for all your videos!

    haha and guess what your doing the windmill!! Brilliant.. thank you for sharing your skills your a brilliant teacher, can't wait to try this out later. I am choreographing a short poi performance for a scene in a show we have coming up in June, I'm just trying to figure out which moves will look good on stage, also learning how to dance with poi myself. I also have to teach two others how to spin from scratch, will be showing them your videos for sure. Thank you again, Charlotte.

    I'm noticing a trend here... I couldn't do reel turns until I watched the 2 beat weave, I couldn't do 2 until I watched 3 beat weave, now, I still can't do windmills, but I just learned 3 beat 😅

  • @tenkaris
    @tenkaris 12 років тому

    I had horrible problems with this move when I first was learning it. I would always lapse back into same time and it really frustrated me. I met another spinner at a show who told me to focus on my shoulders more than anything else and voila, just doing that completely solved the issue for me.
    Just thought I'd share in case someone else might be able to use that.

  • @PoiRetreat
    @PoiRetreat 11 років тому

    Dude, help me out (I hope you’ll see and respond to this): when I go into Windmill from Corkscrew I end up with cross point from my right hand on the left side (counter clockwise spinning, just like you in video), and its obvious that your cross point is on the right side. My hands are above my head and that kind of Windmill (maybe that’s not a Windmill at all!) is smooth.

  • @02.142
    @02.142 11 років тому

    That's exactly the problem I'm having; it keeps going into same time. What do you mean exactly by focus on your shoulders?

  • @vjkarma
    @vjkarma 8 років тому +1

    great tut, thank you, love it

  • @PoiRetreat
    @PoiRetreat 11 років тому

    But when I want to make cross point with right hand on the right side, then suddenly its all messy and I can’t get the rhythm (also I cant get hands above head, they are above shoulders).
    But when I switch to opposites (Butterfly) then I can easily alternate front-to-back with cross points on appropriate side (but hands stays above shoulders).
    What am I missing?

    I literally can not figure this out. I can do the super sets all the way down to 1 beat per side but when I keep my body more neutral to create the windmill, everything kind of collapses. I even tried doing it in the mirror to see where I'm going wrong but I can't tell.

    • @Bloodsong13T
      @Bloodsong13T 7 років тому +2

      i haven't tried this, so i dont know :X ...! but what helps me sometimes is using two sticks (like rulers or yardsticks or... sticks out of your yard), and going in super slow motion. you can slow it down as much as you want, because you don't have to rely on the centrifugal/centripetal forces to keep the poi straight. once you can slow it down and see what you're doing, you can experiment without clocking yourself in the head and everything.

    Hi there Drex, I am a big fan of your videos and you are definitely a master of your craft. I know this is unconventional to ask but I have been searching the interwebs high and low for anything that can teach me how to do what this video is doing at 2:15/2:16, 4:02/4:03, and 1:47. I can so far, fountain, 3 beat/forwards/back, windmills, corkscrews, butterfly front and back, thread the needle front and back, buzzsaw, and can do 4 petal flowers with the help of your videos. I knew that if anyone would know what's going on, it would be you. I would greatly appreciate any feedback that you or any Drex fans have on what is going on.

      +phonex calypso I'm not sure where Doha is but I got mine from Home of Poi. You can also get them from the drexfactor website. Drex uses contact poi, but there are lots of different kinds.

      +phonex calypso i didn't buy my poi; really any weight on the ends of strings will work (mine are glowsticks tied to the ends of shoelaces.)
      if you're clumsy and likely to end up hitting yourself in the head a few times, I'd recommend looking up some tutorials online for making poi out of socks.
