@@BleedingWhiteKnuckles Lol, I'm going to assume you meant "pettiest" not prettiest. He's more than justified to stop him about the light. As was explained it's the same as driving a car without lights. It's considered a vehicle and at night you need to be visible to be safe to yourself and others.
His refusal to stop gave the cop a reasonable suspicion that more was afoot. Engaging lights and siren require the subject to stop regardless of his feelings. That further escalated suspicion and gave the officer justification to pursue and arrest, as bike dude is now fleeing an officer. It's bad luck that the officer was injured during the "decentralization" (love that) but that is also the responsibility of the subject as the officer was forced to take that action to end the pursuit.
All in all it was pretty stupid for bike guy. He was told why he was being stopped and he still kept going. If people think they can just refuse an officer trying to stop them just because it's "not a big deal", that line gets pushed further and further.

Dang, kid. I once got stopped for no taillights on my CAR. Turned out a fuse had blown and I was limping it home after school. Cop didn't even give a written warning or anything but suggested he tail me home so his taillights could cover me from getting rear-ended. He didn't get out when I parked at home, just rolled down the window and waved before driving off.
Could've been that simple, man. Especially with no warrant.

Wish I got that lucky. Had a "third brake light" out on my old car some time ago. I was pulled over, and completely compliant. Even had my ID and Registration ready. Next thing I know they asked me to step out, they brought a k9 along with 2 more units and said it alerted my car. They searched through every piece of trash in that car but never found a thing. It was my first car which was a junky automatic accord so I trashed that thing. Anyways, after maybe 40mins to an hr they ticketed me for faulty equipment :(

@@kpb711 Well first off, when people were riding bikes without lights in the past it's because they didn't have small, bright lights at affordable prices or they hadn't been invented yet. Second, that was before cars were invented or when cars had a top speed of 20mph. Third, safety only improves over time. People used to drive cars without seatbelts for decades, does that mean we shouldn't use seatbelts today? And finally, most importantly, he was not arrested for not having a light on his bike. He was arrested for fleeing from police resulting in injury to an officer. It does not matter what the initial reason for a stop is, if you flee from said stop that is a crime. He was also acting extremely immature and confrontational with the cops for no reason long before he was "decentralized" (lmao) from the bike, hence the disappointment. No normal, reasonable person in that situation would have chosen to flee from a police car with lights and siren active, let alone *while riding a bicycle.* In that jurisdiction, lighting on bicycles is treated the same as lighting on cars. Those cops are compelled to make traffic stops on cars with no headlights at night the same way they are compelled to make traffic stops on bikes with no lights at night. As stated in the video, it would have been a verbal warning about the light, meaning "Hey man you need a light on your bike at night for safety, we don't want you getting hit by a car," or something similarly worded.

Year ago, I was an ER Nurse where the cops brought a guy in who was being arrested for possession of weed. He said he need to go to the hospital. When he got to us, he refused treatment. When the cops told him "OK. We'll get going to jail, now," he wanted treatment. Then he told me no, again. And told the cops he wanted treatment. At that point the doc told the cops "Get him our of my ER." When the guy protested, the doc told him "Tough. You aren't playing with us." @guccisnack Amazing how people can be so arrogant that they think they are above everyone else. Laws are made to be followed. Doesn't matter if you feel you are above that. Law is the same in every state concerning stopping when an officer tells you to. If you refuse to stop then accept the extra punishment coming. Just have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to turn an obvious warning into a possible felony.
