In this episode of #thedailydoug, I'm reacting to music by Alip Ba Ta for the first time. As I say in the video, I was flooded with requests and recommendations for this musician recently after reacting to the music of Yamandu Costa (Brazilian guitarist) and Burgerkill (Indonesian band). So, I decided to take the plunge this week. I'm glad I did! He plays with a smooth and relaxed technique, and the music sounds great. I hope you enjoy!

Spot on about the 'lament' bit. Juli 97 is purportedly in memory of Alip's father who passed on in July 1997, when Alip was 10 years old. His original compositions are all related to some personal or real world events (watch Pagebluk) that affect him. This humble person, when he plays, he plays just enough to SERVE the music as opposed to virtuosic showboating. There may be more skillful, more stylish, proficient fingerstylists out there. But it makes one wonder how and why Alip has millions more followers than them.

he lives on another planet some kind of alien. he is such a genius and he is the fingerstyle master of the world. his main job is driving a forklift. imagine him playing the guitar just a hobby. many of the covers were taken down just because the cover was better than the original song. for example like hotel california , canon rock , still got the blues , deargod , you won't get that cover on the channel. so you are very lucky to find this person.

Kinda makes me wonder a bit how many other virtuosos are out there that we will never hear; whether it is because they haven't "won the lottery of fame", or because they do their craft simply for themselves and their love of the music and never have and never will promote themselves. I bet there are far more than we realize.

Alip bata comes from Indonesia, works as a forklift driver,
playing guitar just as a hobby in the rest of the time after work,
he is friendly, quiet, humble and does not want to be famous,
all videos are made with just one shot from one angle without the editing process,
and he's the only youtuber who doesn't think about and doesn't want to receive money from the content he makes, nor does he think about inviting viewers to like and subscribe to his channel, the goal
just a hobby and want to entertain his fans around the world,
he even turned down several offers to perform at home and abroad but was turned down with excuses
that he doesn't want to be famous,

He has several original pieces. "Pagebluk" by far is his masterpiece among others.
It's usually established acts that get aired on this channel, so it's refreshing to find independent artists getting an airing here. Alip is unique in the way he is able to work on percussive, melodic, bass elements at the same time but also massaging the sound from a guitar with an array of skills. His arrangements of covers to suit his style of playing is a skill on its own. His songwriting has improved over the years. The dexterity of his fingers and his techniques are visually entertaining, coupled with great music. Thank you for the review. I see you've reacted to a couple of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow tracks. Can you review tracks from his current outfit - Blackmore's Night please? Darker shade of black, No second chance, etc.

He's very good! Reaching up over the frets with the right hand he's plucking artificial harmonics - it takes a bit of explaining but its a common technique among acoustic guitarists. A lot of people employ it - Thomas Leeb, Tommy Emanuel, Michael Hedges, and many others

@Doug Helvering: You should watch bohemian rhapsody as a reaction video. It's unique compare to other guitar cover. Juli 97 is an original one composed by Alip. It's also Alip's first video online using electric guitar.
I agree. I'd like to see that as a reaction video too. It's a good song choice since the song itself isn't that straight forward, but has lots of parts in it. And also what kind of arrangement Alip does with a guitar which has it's limits compared to for example piano when there is bass, harmony and melody to consider.
