Yes, bittersweet for sure. Although we've seen the End before. We know pretty well that the story has an end. And yet: it repeats forever.
Tbh i feel this is the best ending. A world without Evangelion means that it is a world without all the pain and wars. Everybody can live their own life happily and peacefully, rei does not have to be cloned over and over, and Asuka also does not have to go through all the depressions. There will be no third, second nor first impact. Shinji can also live with his parents peacefully as he always wishes.

But Hideaki Anno will continue to give us great movies in the Shin Metaseries with Shin Ultraman and Shin Kamen Rider which would in some way continue the spirit of Evangelion while leaving the actual story finished.

Even 2022 feels optimistic IMO - given the gap between 3.0’s releases in Japan and the English dub I’d been thinking 2025! Very happy to have been proved wrong on this one.

Finished the movie and came back to give my thoughts. After all the suffering and pain he’s went through, Shinji has finally been able to stand on his own two feet and became Humanities Salvation. A world without Evangelion is a world Shinji truly needed.

Robin Williams was one of the most well-known Evangelion fans and he even auditioned to voice Gendoh Ikari for the FUNimation dub of the Rebuilds.
If he were still alive today, he would probably be really satisfied with this ending.

I watched the series when I was a freshman in high school, I was to young to understand what it's actually about. Now after so many years of waiting we will finally see the epilogue Evangelion deserves.

The least confusing compared to End of Evangelion and the original Anime ending
The ending itself is least confusing compared to EoE and the series, but I still looked up for Reddit discussion & an article online to fully understand it. My only gripe was those terms they casually threw since the previous movie (they did explained some like Golgotha Object)

The fact that Amazon, for no reason (not like everyone already has Prime) paid all that money for this movie, shows how big anime is now.
Amazon hasn't paid for the movie, it just pays streaming revenue. As people watch more of it, Amazon pays the Evangelion production team per view. Amazon would be broke if it shelled out to buy each and every movie on its platform.

I am in shook, Evangelion is part of my life since I was 5 years old. I'm 21 years old.
Evangelion was one of the first "grown up" anime I watched, on VHS, back in the early 2000s. I've watched the Original dub series at least 4 times all the way through. Even the reboot is over a decade old. Ah, memories.

I became a fan of Evangelion in 2022. I was always aware of it, and had respect for it. Now that I finished the entire show, and rebuild films, I have a very hard time saying goodbye. I just got here, and just when I fell in love with this story and these characters, they're leaving for good. I regret not finding this piece of art sooner. I wish I had more time. Thank you Anno. This show changed my life.
Same thing as you but started during the summer for 2021 and drew out the series for as long as I could.
Watching EVA gave me a new way of perceiving life in a way, "What is it?" you may ask? Funny enough, idk myself but things seem and feel "different" once people find a deeper after watching the main series and rebuilds.
@Raph I agree. I can't put my finger on it exactly but life feels different now that I finished Eva. I feel as if I am more in tune with who I am, and see myself in a new light. Asuka Langley Soryu is the character that spoke to me the most, as I can relate to her on different levels. Shinji and Misato also are quite relatable, but its Asuka that made me see who I really am. Watching her was like looking in a broken mirror.

My parents loved Evangelion in their teens, so Neon Genesis was one of the first anime I had ever seen when I was about 5. I also had the pleasure of watching the movies. This franchise has had such an impact on me and has been my favorite ever since I was small. I’m 18 now and didn’t think we’d actually see the end so soon. It’s been a ride everyone.

Saw it and let me just say it makes up for 3.0 and makes for a fitting end to this series. The ending is probably the best ending for Shinji and I’m happy he got it in the end.

I remember watching the first movie in 1998 in a theater in Osaka, Japan and being confused AF. I stumbled across this while looking at the Prime Video menu. I'm glad to finally bring closure to something I used to watch in the 90's. It all makes sense now.
I just finished it, and I’m half confused yet half understanding of the meaning of this film. I’m glad its finally shown Gendos perspective and how he obsessively spent his life channeling grief while finally accepting himself and his son. And it’s also shown me just what maturity is. Such a great ending. And thank Amazon and the Evangelion team enough❤️
There are exclusive bits from the manga only, death and rebirth, originals + previous movies so...to get it 100% is kinda hard if u dont read/watch em all. Anno mashed everything and cherry picked from everything that came before to use it as a base for this final one.
These past two weeks have been some of the most stressful days of my life. Honestly being able to sit down and watch the last Evangelion movie made it a whole lot better. Thank you Anno. Thank you Amazon.

Amazon Studios does release some of their films theatrically like Manchester by the Sea and the Suspiria remake.
But the most likely option is that GKIDS would acquire the theatrical and home video rights to the Rebuild films just like they did for Neon Genesis, even if it was already licensed by Netflix.

Eva has accompanied me throughout my youth, this trailer makes me so nostalgic. I csn still remember watching the anime and not understanding anything but feeling like something was stirring within me. Now, watching it all end and coming back to the promise of that ending, it really feels like I closed a chapter in my life.
I was in school when i watched the last rebuild movie, since then i graduated, got a job, a girlfriend, moved out from my parents home. Now, 9 years later amazon brings this movie to us in under 12 month after the cinema release

A beautiful and very intelligent, mature movie. As a fan of Evangelion since 1997, I am pleased with this conclusion. The real final of Evangelion. The characters and the author himself have matured, now it's the audience's turn.

This film looks worse and is written way worse than even the shitty light novels, and I always used to laugh at them, but Anno actually created something equally as embarrassing.

This movie was incredible. The way they connected everything together was amazing. The animation, the music, the story, and the twists were all amalgamated into a masterpiece. Evangelion is a must-watch, both the anime and the rebuild movies. And I couldn't be happier looking at the way this turned out.

We have waited so long for this moment. Eva has been our life since it was on AS. Our first couples cosplay shinji/auska, every con our theme. A very emotional time is upon us with the closing of the book we have been on for over 10 years.
This was an incredibly long journey.
I remember watching Evangelion when I was in early 8th grade. The movie too (it fucked me up). I'm now in my senior year of highschool, and finally, I'll watch the end of this series. Lmao I feel like I can't move on unless Shinji gets a happy ending.
Why don’t Shinji and Asuka ever end up together that’s what I dislike.

I'm Japanese. I use a translation machine. I recommend seeing this Evangelion movie more than two times because the content is difficult. I also recommend seeing the commentary. If you have any questions about the movie, ask me. I thought it was the first best movie in one years. I saw it four times at the movie theater.
Did you see Hathaway? If so, what did you think of it? Also, do you feel like this is a good ending to Shin Evangelion that gives watchers a good feeling of peace for the finish?

I've seen this movie at theaters twice in Japan because it was so good in its senario and the visual art. But above all this, I wasn't ready to say goodbye to the entire series.Watching this trailer made me want to watch the movie again.Enjoy this at home,everyone!!

This is MOVIE IS THE BEST ANIME MOVIE YOU CAN EVER WATCH. MY whole heart was really dancing when Mari said "Come on shinji" like that really transcends beyond the digital screen to your heart to live life happily and fully without hurting nobody and even yourself. It really said to forgive everyone and hold grudges before you leave this universe and every realms of existence. LOTS OF LOVE TO JAPAN AND JAPANESE PEOPLE FROM INDIA🇮🇳❤️🇯🇵

Honestly, I preferred a thousand times for it to appear in theaters and to be able to enjoy it much better, especially when it is the last Envangelion movie. Not only because of the fandom but it is one of my most favorite anime and I wanted to see it on the big screen. 💯💯🖤🖤🥀🥀🥀❤️❤️
Me too, but this is a relatively niche film, so getting a wide distribution here in the states would be difficult, and that's without taking into account the worldwide pandemic that rages on.

I’m just saying this because all of the theaters in my area are opening up again, and the Demon Slayer movie had no problems being aired, so I don’t see why this one would have any issues, especially with since it’s less popular probably

Watched it yesterday. What an ending. It wasn’t the ending what I expected but what I needed. Thank you Anno for this masterpiece and thank you Amazon for offering the movies. Now I can finally move on after 15 year’s. A well deserved conclusion for the whole series.

I love coming back to this video. When I first heard this song, I felt something. It wasn’t sad or happy or excitement. It was everything all at once. I had no idea what this movie was going to be about when I watched this trailer. I watched Evangelion in its entirety, as well the rebuild films but I never knew how it was going to end. I missed that feeling of not knowing what would happen to all these characters. After a year since this movie has come out, I’m happy that I know how this beautiful story ends. Thank you once again for making a story that impacted so many of us fans
