- In the next episode of The Cure Chronicles, HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ activist Daniel Driffin joins the conversation. Since his HIV diagnosis in 2008, Daniel has dedicated his life to working at the intersection of advocacy and assisting communities affected by HIV. He cofounded THRIVE Support Services, Inc., a patient-advocacy and social support network for Black gay men living with HIV, and gained much public attention after speaking at the 2016 Democratic National Convention, where he reintroduced conversations about HIV awareness, education, and testing on a national scale. Daniel has been recognized by the National Black Justice Coalition as one of the top 100 Black LGBTQ/SGL Emerging Leaders to Watch and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in public health from Georgia State University.
About The Cure Chronicles:
There are more than 38 million people in the world currently living with HIV/AIDS. At American Gene Technologies® (AGT™), we believe there is hope for a cure. We need to thankful to the HIV activists as well as doctors and organisation members around the globe who are engaged in this great cause for saving humanity. I think HIV victims also need to take part of this campaign by being honest with themselves to fight against this pandemic. I can understand the social stigma caused by the HIV and how devastating, it not only ruins the victims lives as well it effects victim's families and ultimately to society.Unfortunataly I got infected in a tragedy and the impact can't be expressible. I hope with joint effort by global communities we could able to rid of from this evil desease. God bless.
a clinical-stage biotechnology company working to cure HIV, announced that the independent Institutional Review Board (IRB) overseeing its clinical trial approved the company to proceed with analytic treatment interruption (ATI) to ultimately determine if AGT’s cell therapy can functionally cure HIV. Six patients have received the treatment so far. The first five demonstrated safety and efficacy; AGT expects to see similar data on the sixth participant who was infused with the treatment on February 9th, and who has thus far experienced no adverse events. The next logical step in the trial’s progression: preparing to withdraw patients’ antiretroviral therapy to potentially demonstrate a functional cure.
