You would apply gel over tips the same way you would sculpting gel except you would skip the part of building the free edge as the tip is that.

So sad I missed asking this during live, but why would she go in with build pink after the foil, instead of base?
Or does it not really matter?
You could use base to seal the foil. Knowing Karen it was most likely that as she already closed and put the base away, it was a speed technique to use the build pink since it was still out. Both are fine to use for that step.
I always get a ridge under my nail on the corners of my free edge when I use a form. Am I not getting the form snug enough?
Most likely the form is not getting flush under the nail and there's a gap between the nail and the form. The product is probably flowing in between that gap.
