Sunsynk 8.8kW Inverter
Longi HiMo 6 430w Panels x 22
16 on NW aspect and 6 on SE aspect
No battery storage
MG5 EV
Vaillant Arotherm Plus 7kW Heat Pump
200L UniStor Cylinder
45L Buffer tank
140sqM Detached 1997 built house
10mm copper microbore pipework downstairs
Installed by British Gas
Correction.
Some other heat pumps are assembled in the UK.
Vaillant - Belper
Mitsubishi - Livingston
Ideal - Hull
Assembled but not designed in the UK sadly...
Ideal Logic - Yes UK, BUT the Ideal HP290 is a rebadged Chinese effort (Midea?) until Ideal's new manufacturing facility comes onstream in a couple of year’s time
Thank you for your hard work.
My pleasure!
BottlecapDave has been integrating the Cosy 6 into HA. Hopefully that will result in them showing up on heat pump monitor. Also the 4 pods you get given can all be set as a main control. So you could set a bedroom as the control thermostat instead of the hallway depending on your needs.
Thanks for the intel!
I decided against Octopus and went with Boxt as I told you a few weeks ago. It's all finished now and I'm glad I went with them. Boxt were slightly cheaper but gave me the Vaillant instead of the cosy/daikin. It's performing really well so far. Really good company.
Went with BOXT for my solar they are great under 4k for the whole install and couldn’t be happier with it
Do they do a proper heat loss survey? I went through the online process and they have come out with a 10Kw vaillant and ask for money up front and an install date. Surely this could result in many over or undersized systems unless an up front survey is completed beforehand.
@@Rossi616 Yes they did all that. Mine came out 7kw online but after the survey it went to 5kw. All radiators changed and the price came down after I paid and got £750 refund. If you not happy the money you pay upfront it's refunded.
Yes they do all that. Mine was a 7kw when I paid the full deposit. After the survey it was 5kw. I had all the radiators changed and the Vaillant heat pump and cylinder for £3500. British gas wanted £6500 for the same thing. If after the survey your not happy for whatever reason you just get your money back. My quote online was £4250 but after the survey it was £3500 so I got £750 refund.
@@mackay250thanks for the reply. I’ve got a quote of £5,999 with them but based on the 10Kw model which I think will be oversized and really don’t want that double height unit on the back of my house.
Yes! Some much needed waffle 😂 one thing to mention about the octopus unit is that it isn’t new, they bought I think it was an Irish company who already produced really good heat pumps.Well done for mentioning Ebac by the way,a much underrated British company who make some fantastic products
They bought RED which was based in Craigavon, Northern Ireland so not an Irish company but Northern Irish. I know I'm being pedantic as most people across the world do not understand the difference but an Irish company could not be said to be in the UK. The Republic of Ireland is part of the EU and Northern Ireland while part of the UK is kind of in limbo between the EU and UK as far as trade is concerned,
Just to confuse things even more around 50% of the people in Northern Ireland will call themselves Irish and hold Irish passports. Most of the rest hold a British passport but may have an Irish passport as well as all people born in Northern Ireland are entitled to dual nationality. 🙂
👍
If a criticism has data/evidence and is considered - it’s invaluable - because it has honest integrity & benefits the subject. Sadly, many UA-cam/internet trolls just are vile people, emotionally/personality damaged bitter people who enjoy attacking anything they can ‘join in against’ like a mob. No thought, no integrity just vileness. PS I judge you to have integrity generally, some of the commenters (haunting certain channels/subjects) clearly not.
Thank you!
I would be interested but ideally i would like some kind of air to air multi split heat pump system to cool the upstairs rooms in summer since i have more of an issue with too much heat.
It sounds like government support for air to air may be on the way in 2025.
Valiant heat pumps are made in Belper Uk.
Would be interesting to have a table showing the guarantee of the different makes of heat pumps or is there information elsewhere to get this information.
That's would be beneficial. I haven't seen a complete table anywhere.
@@UpsideDownFork I know Ebac has a 7 year guarantee comprehensive parts and labour which I thought that’s pretty good , only know this because I purchased a dehumidifier a few weeks back from them with a four year comprehensive guarantee pars and labour, so was looking at their other products while on the site , so when you was talking the other day about guarantees it reminded me of what Ebac has with their units, I must admit pretty impressed with that company, especially when I saw that the owner has put the company into a trust so it will carry on after he has passed , fascinating gentleman who started that company and a very clever engineer.
I am also concerned about reliability rather than absolute maximum performance. Octopus is a newcomer to the heating world, so I am holding back until we have more experience of them.
Our current boiler is a 10 year old Vaiilant and has never been out of service in it's life. Before that we had a non-condensing Vaillant boiler for 15 years which also never had any issue whatsoever.
I know lots of people with other makes of boiler who seem to have had no end of issues with a boiler breakdown at least once per year..
As another, said Vaillant and Octopus hp's are both UK manufactured.

Thanks! Vaillant is definitely a tried and tested unit!
You have corrected the point on Mitsubishi but I think you have still done them a disservice, They have just cut 400 of the 1600 staff employed in Livingstone because of the downturn in heat pump sales in Europe. All their ashps up to 11 kW are made in Scotland and only those of 14 kW and other special kit are brought in from Japan. If like me you wanted a real custom built system to deal with a site up in the clouds on top of the South Downs I went for the Mitsubishi 14 kW system with a McDonalds hwc. Another Scottish manufacturer renowned for its quality and innovative hot water tanks. When I was looking for my system back in 2021 they were scrapping a hwc with the date of manufacture of 1947 and not because it failed!. They are renowned for hot water supply systems on ships, for the food manufcaturing industry (Tunnocks) and even the science Museum in London. We do have the wherewithal to make cracking stuff for the heat pump industry. My HWC of 250 litres took 2 very fit young men to get it up stairs into the airing cupboard. At the mid range spec of copper thickness and a finned 3 metre long heat exchanger it must have weighed over 100 kG, I hope that it is still providing hot water in 2075 and coupled with the 14 kW heat pump should be able to produce hot water for 10 generous showers in 30 minutes. (we have 4 showers). (10 showers x 50 litres @ 38 degrees hwc starting temp of 42 degrees cold at 15 degrees (Spring/Autumn) would need 250 litres raised by 23 degrees or 12 kWh of heat input?
Thank you for adding some much needed context!
Its looking like the efficiency values of the cosy 6 are a little short of other leading brands as you previously identified. It does seem to have advantages of being cheaper than many rivals and requiring less work to install. EvNicks example was a bargain!
Yes, it appears that the initial assessment was correct.
My Cosy 6 is coming in at £880 for the entire install. Great price.
@@liamhenning My quote was even less. I couldn't believe it ended up UNDER the £500! I've had quotes over £6000. Price is a key part of the Cosy's appeal.
Mitsubishi Ecodan factory in Scotland
Livingston :-)
Yes, my Ecodan said made in Scotland but it broke and I got my angle grinder to it.
Guess what? The compressor said made in Thailand!
@ oh dear.
👍
I'm really on the fence by a heat pump. My boilers about to go. £3k for a new one with the guarantee i know it'll do the job, or a heat pump. Heat geek initial quote including grant is £7000, whereas Octupus was originally £4000 and reduced there offer to me yesterday to £3000 to match the boiler quote. So I have octopus coming out on the 20th Jan to assess. Still, haven't heard great things about their installs so not sure it's even worth it at the same price! Feel lost with it all to be honest.
Here's my experience after one year of heat pump ownership.
ua-cam.com/video/DiMZoM_ocgk/v-deo.html
@@UpsideDownFork Yeah I watched that and it's what spurred me to get some actual quotes. I can't imagine heat geek getting a guaranteed COP of 4 vs a COP of 2.5-3.5 from a cozy 6 can justify the extra £4000 despite me preferring to go with them. I think it's more that it feels like a leap of faith when electric prices are just so damn high and vulnerable.
@chrisg3223 I agree with that general principle.
Payback periods for premium installations are long.
Going with a Daikin heat pump through Octopus is a safer bet than a Cosy at the moment.
Can I actually ask for Daikin instead of Cosy 6? I have been offered a cosy 6.
@chansug yes you can 👍
I hadn't noticed They had released the cosy 10.
I'm having them around for a survey on 7th. I think my heat loss is calculated at nearer 11kw so i doubt I'll he offered one. But the Daikin performs much better so nvm, but the vertical integration and better looks (Daikin is particularly ugly IMO) are worth something absolutely.
I hope your survey goes well for you!
My Daikin was made in EU (Czec Republic).
👍
I've heard the units are cheaper than others but haven't gone as far as getting a quote as it's massively over sized for me.
👍
The noise levels and compressor vibrations of the Cosy 6 is ridiculous. It's been advertised as being quieter but it is rather the opposite.
I had to have my cosy 6 replaced because of the noise but the new ones isn’t much better when starting up and colder the compressor noise is unreal
I really hope they get to grips with this soon.
Some people are saying they should have big rubber feet like the competition?
Why don't you go open energy monitor i did for about 30 quid + raspberry pi
can't link my system has YT does not do hyperlinks
Using the eebus or through the Vaillant gateway?

I have found Octopus Energy to be very poor\slow at fixing faults. They have been unable to read my meter since 1st November and won't be out to fix it until 13th January, if that works. They have requested the same information three times, it's as if no one reads the replies to their own emails. Not much use having off peak rates if you don't know how much you will actually be charged. Rant over 🙂 I don't know if I could trust them to install a heat pump.
Ouch. I don't blame you in that case.
Well, i had an issue the day after my cosy6 was installed, it stopped working.
Rang their customer care team, answered within 30 seconds, spoke to an actual human, a very polite and courteous lady (none of this tedious number chasing or bot AI nonsense), this was at 6pm in the evening, an Octopus engineer arrived on my doorstep before 7pm!
I can't complain about their service response at all. I'm well impressed.
Octopus pump not available to me even though I’m with them … see the good in it being integrated with the app and system but they look so silly and they re the first generation … so will hopefully get better
👍
And if you move provider away from Octopus? Will the controls linked to Octopus's energy tariffs still work? Will they demand their subsidised heat pump back? And how long will they last, and how much will it cost to replace without the £7.5k taxpayer funded bung?
Important questions.
You can move away from octopus as your energy provider.
8 year warranty is good then cost to replace would imagine not too different from a new boiler. It’s all the initial install that really costs.
I've been looking into Heat Pumps for a while now. Thanks for all your content! You've posted lots of videos with your personal experiences and highly informed perspectives which has been great for me. 🙂 For the Cosy I couldn't believe what price they came up with following the survey. I made a video on the topic and honestly I'm not sure you would believe it. Link is here if you are interested ua-cam.com/video/dEesGorehCk/v-deo.html
Wow that is cheap! It would be even better if you could get them to install a Daikin for that cost.
Good luck with your videos!
Data junkie? Erm... (Looks across at my five Govee temperature loggers) Yeah. 😂
