As of 3/3/24 the Pyro Vault 2.0 has been out for a while. Different case shape. No longer has clip. Has multiple locations to attach a small carabiner or other attachment. Got mine to house a zippo butane insert.
I literally just got this case in today. What a coincidence! I know there are better long term alternatives to zippo, but I've been on a kick recently of buying made in the usa. I also quite like the flame of a zippo, just wished the fluid lasted longer. Thats why I went with this case, to support another US based company, and still carry around my zippo for edc.
Got it today and looking forward to using tomorrow. So far no problem lighting the zippo in the new Thyrm case even though I cut down the wick in the Zippo half way for a smaller flame and to have less fuel evaporation. I have 3 Zippos I use alternately on a daily basis and love them long time but loathe the short term fuel loss per the design. Looking forward to seeing how this unit works although I am still addicted to that classic Zippo click. I'll always keep the standard Zippo on hand. Some things I'll never change.
I purchased a chinese clone of this case. Works well enough, seals well enough, but design leaves something to be desired. It doesn't sit flat on a table very well with 3 points of contact, and the raised latch for the lid tends to get in the way of lighting. Other than that, it will certainly hold the fuel for months, so it makes a good "survival" carry item.
I belive that this case matches perfectly with zippo's plasmatic insert. Cause fire doesn't matches with plastic AND water doesn't matches with eletronics either.
This seems to be a nifty little gadget. Like you mentioned, I'd be wary of the pocket clip riding it so high, but then it would be right at home sitting loose in any cargo pocket.
Honestly, I would rather have just kept that awesome looking worn Zippo case and just put a butane lighter insert inside of it. Zippo recently released their own butane insert, which like all butane inserts has a self contained butane fuel cell that's sealed therefore preventing any fuel from evaporating or leaking out. I know the Thyrm Pyrovault Lighter Armor with its O-ring will make it watertight/submersible, but the Thyrm Pyrovault Lighter Armor looks ugly as hell and is noticeably larger/thicker than the original Zippo case itself!!!
For me, its all about the Zippo Click - Lets face it, there are better lighters But a Zippo adds old school smell and sound and THAT is its appeal - at least to me.
Zippos are cigarette lighters. Carrying a zippo makes sense for someone lighting 10-40 cigarettes a day not someone who wants to light a campfire twice a month. I don’t understand why people who don’t smoke want to carry zippos so badly.
Honestly, between the bulk and the lack of the classic Zippo sound, I’m not sure why one would use this over a Kuboy? I mean, maybe for the waterproofing? (I picked up a Kuboy shortly after you reviewed it, and I’ve been suuuuper happy with it.)
That’s great to hear. One of my friends liked mine so much that he talked me out of it. So I gave it to him as a gift. He has told me a number of different times how much he loves that thing.
That clip is def for molle. Thyrm is very tactically oriented.
Can wait to see long term test!

I quit smoking 4 years ago but I still have my zippos.

Thyrm Pyrovault Lighter Armor- amzn.to/3vwfMH4
that is one item the military should have on them

I think I tend to agree for an EDC lighter. I could see this case working in a pack or BOB though.
I once considered starting smoking just to have and use a Zippo lighter. Absurd me.

May you test the 2.0 version that just released?
it is really good but it has weak hinge spring
I've to get that, good review Ben
Excellent review Sir 😎👍🏻
Great video.
Thank you.
優れているところはありましたが、ヒンジのバネは常に力がかかるせいか数年後にボロボロに崩れました。

How much is the case.
I believe it was $30
@@txtoolcrib OK good to know.
Does the latch seem like it might easily open in a pocket?
I haven’t tried carrying it to know, but I’ll make it a point to do that for a while.

Why do people that don’t race drive a Corvette?
Sweet.
Thanks
Cool.
