What a fantastic idea. I had a Citroën Pallas that was so smooth and comfy to drive. Always liked these cars. I am glad that he kept the fluid suspension and not swapped it for conventional shocks. Great video and congratulations to the guy who built it.
Rolly uk thaaaanks mate!! Yeah imagine swapping the BEST FEATURE of this car for a standard shocks, I imagine a few people doing it but what a waste. I’m good friends with Aldo, I’ve seen this car endless times, helped fixing/improving small things and I still remember the very first time I saw this car and Aldo so excited showing me the hydro pneumatic suspension. As far as I know Aldo he’s definitely keeping the original suspension ohh yeaahh!!! =]

Sorry about the ADHD, just slow down a bit.
And sorry for the bad comment didn't new you had ADHD.
Please accept my apologie.
I watched until 0:56 and closed the video ...... too much wooooowwwwww..... very annoying.
Oh dear......had to turn off after ten seconds, couldn’t bear the presentation
Same here...it's a pity though, the car's beautiful, and I wanted to know what he did to the suspension, but there's just no way I'm going to listen to that for 15 minutes...it's unbearable
Hi Kurt. I’m planning doing an electric conversion on a DS myself. The suspension is controlled by a pump, there should be no problem to run this off the batteries.
@@mvmallinson Good luck with that. If you can afford modern batteries, you could probably get quite a good range (for example with 18650 cells from a Tesla Model S). I think it's one of the best classic cars to convert to electric, since the engine has always been its weak point - it's not fast and more than that, it's kind of agricultural (how it revs and sounds), completely unlike the car looks.
Kurt Agree completely. The Tesla batteries are what we have in mind. If you are interested, I’ll keep you posted as we progress with the project. If you check out “Carfection” on You Tube, you will see a 6 year restoration of a V12 E Type that I have just completed. I’m currently doing another project, we are putting a Porsche engine and gearbox into a 1959 Karman Ghia and changing everything to handle the extra power of course and then I hope to start the DS at the end of this year.

This can be an enormous business model. Converting existing combustion engine cars into electric cars by taking engines out and replacing them with electric power units. This way people can drive their own dream car without polluting their environment.
This video proves it can be done.
That's true, but it is usually more expensive than buying an OEM electric car. That usually dampens demand. :-(
Yeaaahh I’m a member of the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA), this is where I met Aldo and his Citroen DS back in 2015. Lots of older / retired engineers having fun helping each other’s projects converting their loved cars into electric. They’ve been doing it since 1978... used to be reeeally expensive buying a descent motor + controller making your own battery pack. Nowadays it’s just easier to buy a Nissan Leaf or Tesla and strip the electronics and transfer to your project car. Sounds easy but there’s a lot of work and engineering involved, I see lots of business popping already doing and lots more starting. This is a great news. I’ll be making more videos showing other AEVA members EV conversions. I have some other videos here already like the 300v Mercedes B-class ua-cam.com/video/48QBTndiiXg/v-deo.html
Thanks bro you're back with your new video. I always waiting for your videos 💗

you can tell this guy really loves electric cars
Electric suit the amazing DS so well. Makes you wonder why it wasn't built that way
Well, electric cars exist since the 30,s or so, the only reason why they were not really mass produced, is because of the fosil energy companies, they control the monopoly....
And battery technology didn't have the need or funding for adequate development until recently
Love the enthusiasm from both sides, and it's entirely justified too.
Ohhh!!! what-"AH" beauty! Yeah!⚡
Nice invention
Thank you so much for the person who made this car

Thanks for making and sharing video, I have a 1972 citroen ds21 in new jersey and suggestions on how i can get it converted to electric?
Citroen missed a marketing opportunity there
Yeaaaahhh... imagine if they embraced electric back in the days and released this car with both options: petrol or ELECTRIC.
Even using many Lead Acid Batteries and older DC motors it still would be a nice option. I recently worked on a rare Baker 1912 originally electric car before petrol cars ua-cam.com/video/OhnjMdzGusc/v-deo.html
Yeeaaaahhhhhhhhhhgh!!!!!!!!!! I like this car so much! Insane batery pack!
Hahaaaaaa imagine this was all made back in 2014 when everything was a lot harder to find and a lot more expensive too
So cool epower thanks.
Thats why citroens will live forever :) They are easier to convert, and adopt any weight you add. Models from 2000 (C5 & C6) already has electric pump.
that guy does the sound effects during the F1 races...wrraaaaawwwwww!!!!
My dad had a DS21. The most confortable car ever. Everything was differant fom all other manufacturers.
Too bad Citröen cars of that period used to rust quickly. That's the main reason they are so rare nowdays.
Yeaahhh so many people watching and commenting “my dad had a DS and it was the most comfortable car ever!!” Hahahaaaa so cool!!
Even Jay Leno collecting so many cool classic cars said that the DS is by far the most comfortable car ever made!
I didn’t know about their rust problem... hummm sad =/
BrunoPOWEEER Water got often trapped in the lower part of the doors and roten them from the inside. It's a usual fix to inject foam in the void of the doors to keep water out.
Also the metal sheet was quite thin to acheive a lower ovarall weight and therfore rust pierces it quickly.
Another explanation of the rarety is the cost of repair once the aging hydrolic joins start to leak. You have to remove the engine/clutch/gearbox just to change let say a single joint on the direction. More over, outside of the Citroën retailers network many technicians were afraid to work on DS because it's not conventional.
Λογος yes... mechanics in general are scared to touch this weird back to front vintage motor, they probably don’t understand the hydro pneumatic system either...
Thanks for the tip about injecting foam inside the doors to keep water (and rust) away. Aldo is a member of the Citroen club for decades and may know most these things but I’ll make sure I tell him. This DIY electric car will rarely see any mechanics workshop =]

Hi. I love the DS. Didn't know much about it. Is the batttery powered DS better than the original version? Would love to see where the motor is and also the other batteries at the back as well. It is extremely increditable to have this built in 2014. What a great man!

Lovely video bro, I love your enthusiasm . Its how i sound in my head all the time. What is the range of the car?
Hahahahaha I’m laughing here imagining something like my voice inside your head hahahahahaa you must be a happy guy like me.. =]
Range, this car was made in 2014 and anything over 80 or 100km range was like WOOOWWW... this Citroën is doing around 120km on a single charge, it depends how hard you drive.
So much POWEEEEEEEERRR ohhh yeaahh
"It's so quiet! Wwwwwoooooowwww! Can't hear anything! Wwwwwwoooooooowwwww!" I enjoyed the presentation, btw.
respect, please fix the rest of the car also a little. My dad used to work for citroen for +50 years, his brother 40 years last DS my dad had was a also a 23 inj. pallas (nice green) that we restored completely to the last bolt together. One of many we owned and i grew up with. My dad passed away weirdly enough the same year citroen stopped making the real citroens with the hydraulic systems.
Woooowww 50+ years working at Citroën... im sure your dad and uncle helped creating this amazing piece of engineering on wheels!!
It must’ve been fun restoring this beauty down to the bolt... do you have any photos or videos? I just rushed to check your channel but unfortunately couldn’t find any DS content =/ (I guess we didn’t have blogs and internet back in the days). I’m pretty sure you had a fun time restoring your dads DS =]
Ok this is awesome and I plan on building it soon or anytime I get a chance.
Yeaaahhh building an EV is a super fun project you’ll learn sooooooo much!!! I always recommend people to start with a smal Electric bike to learn everything in small scale then step up and play with bigger stuff, that extra knowledge may save you between $10k-$25k in making the right decision buying the right things and putting things together.
Bravo Aldo!!! Good work!!! How many distance run with one charge ?
Hahaaa thaaaanks mate... this car is very aerodynamic so it’s actually quite efficient, can do between 95 to 110km range depending on driving style and terrain (lots of hills or mostly flat) and also windy or cold days expect more like 95km range. Which is okay for most urban daily drive =]
wonderful presentation
The pump is more noisy than the original.
When idling you could heat tick tick...
The car do not have a vacuum pump for brake assist. When breaking, you let the hydraulic out from the springs, and the weight of the car press the brake pads together. The heavier the car, the better the brakes..
After several years with Citroën, I felt like the non Citroën car did not have any springs.
Michael Eric Menk Thaaaaanks mate for this very informative comment!! Very interesting that the weight of the car is directly related to the brakes...
This is the original DS pump, the original petrol engine would’ve completely cover up the pump noise. A petrol engine idling is always running and noisy so you can’t even hear the pump kicking in and topping up, now that it’s electric you can hear any little noise. It’s possible to make quieter which is something I was attempted to help but we were there packing up all his stuff to send to Italy... he can do it when the car arrives there =]
Yep, great idea. I love the special battery, I owned a DS about 30 years ago. I must do this some day. Maybe I'd do it to a more modern car. Maybe a C5. I like the idea of pulling a diesel motor out of a car and replacing that with an electric system.
Yeaaahhh you actually had a
DS hahaaa such a cool car!!! I also love the idea of pulling out a diesel motor, that will make me twice as happy. C5 would be a great conversion. Whenever you do it, please document everything step by step =]
@@BrunoPOWEEER will do, no problem. I have owned a DS 21, BXs, CXs and a Xantia VSX, and Xantias are pretty cheap these days. I think a Xantia would convert well too. The good thing about doing a C5 would be that the HP pump is already an electric one, and the brakes and steering are conventional. I always had problems with loss of large amounts of LHM in my Xantia. My main issue with doing a C5 is that everything runs through the main CPU, and I'm not sure how to delete large chunks of existing hi-tech and ending up with a working car. Would be fun though. I have a C5 V6, AND I LOVE THE CAR. However, a sparked up one would be interesting. Cheers.

The perfect combination of old school reliability with an improved powertrain.
What is its range, top speed, 0-100kmh acceleration speed and charging speed?
Great video BTW!
Onboard charger charges vehicle overnight from empty (some 7 hours). But usually I only do about 20-40 kms a day, so dosen't take long. The DS has regen and as a result has a range of 120kms. It performs better then the original 2.3litre fuel injected motor. Have not tested top speed. Legal maximum in Australia is 110kms. Have gone up to 130 but don't want to lose my license.
@@aldogrech55 Thank you for your reply! I am planning to do this project on my 2010 Toyota Corolla. Im planning to get a tesla model s charging socket, motors and battery to get a better range of atleast 200km and faster charging of 2 hours maximum, would that work?
@@pompmachine4999 Should work fine. 2 hour charging time depends on a lot of things. The Tesla batteries certainly can handle-it. However it also depends on the charging infrastructure and battery cooling. So I think you need to do a bit more research; or trial and error, as I did.

Your battery pack design is excellent, I always liked the A123 Prismatic Cells, thought they would really take off years ago .. but IMO, they mis-read the market .. A123 was intent and invested in supplying the entire Battery Pack, but OEMs only wanted to buy cells at a time when A123 was not quite at production stages and LG Chem was .. LG Chem won the cell business over A123. About 10 years ago, ALL the OEMs made a decision that Battery Packs would be a "core technology" and that they would only buy cells as a low cost commodity item,... A123 business / product strategy was Doomed to bankruptcy, even though their LiFePO4 chemistry was the safest and didn't need expensive cobalt.
Yeaaaaahhhh love these comments with a LOT of good information!!!! Yeah I remember back in 2013/2014 everyone only talked about A123 cells for both pouch and 26650 cylindrical cells... they also had a bad batch and some companies got hurt big time but there was no where else to go, they’re the best ones. In the end a Chinese company bought A123 and they do all the manufacturing in China. They tried to revive the A123 battery business but was never the same... like you said, everyone migrated to LG Chem for pouch and the 18650 became very popular making the 26650 business obsolete. I love this Citroen, it packs two pieces of history, the car itself and the legendary original A123 cells =]
@@BrunoPOWEEER it's sad that A123 went belly up .. it was poor management, not their core technology. The decision to invest heavily in Battery Packs and to do that with government money provided during the 2008 financial crash recovery .. lead to them over extending themselves. The cells were awesome, and MUCH SAFER than the exploding fire bombs in most EVs today.
I worked directly with A123 back in 2008-2010 .. developing several of the electrical connectors they used on their packs, we prototyped, tooled and even made some early wiring harnesses for their battery packs. Those same connectors are used in Europe/Asia regions today on other OEM vehicles.
BigCooter.com woooowww now I know why you know so much about A123 hahaaaa
@@KrustyKlown Unfortunately A123 was dragged-down into bankruptcy due to Fisker Karma going belly-up! They had geard-up for his volumes that never happened. I selected them as they were the best power to weight ratio batteries; might still be the case.
@@aldogrech55 IMO, even if Fisker had stayed afloat .. A123 still would have gone bankrupt. Their prismatic cells were a year or so behind in development compared to LG Chem and OEMs have valued power density over the vastly superior fire safety of LiPO4 chemistry. A123 business plan was to sell battery packs and cells to multiple large OEMs, not just Fiskers low volumes .. they invested heavily in that strategy, using Obama bail money to do so.. then that business did not materialize .. which killed them almost instantly.
