I give Nintendo props for telling us with the video this news. they could have not told us and pushed it under the rug. But tbh this delay and scrapping could be good who knows the game may end up being stellar
It would have been nice to see how it was going along since we first heard about the game in 2017 but it may have not been that far along if they are at the point of starting completely over
@@steelyeyes9190 No. It's very different lol. Them starting over means it'll still come out, just a few years later than anticipated. Cancelling would mean it never comes out. Ever.
I don't know about you all, but I feel really respected as a Nintendo fan with the video update by Mr. Takahashi. I'm 100% fine if they restart the development so they can build it up to the level that they want it to be, and with Retro Studios helping the development I don't think theres anything that fans would want more. Honestly it was a sincere and humble announcement which could not have been easy for him to make. So mad respect to Nintendo in taking the steps necessary to provide quality in their products. Looking forward to buying Metroid Prime 4 whenever it comes out~ A lot of other game developers could take a note from this about ensuring quality and managing fan expectation.
A company like Blizzard would never have done this in a million years. They're complete cowards compared to Nintendo. As long as Nintendo keeps putting integrity over profits they'll continue to be one of the most respected companies out there. No matter how much profit you make, you can't buy that sort of respect.
Well, look at it this way. They've been marketing Metroid Prime 4 as one of the pillars to sell the Switch Console when it released. If they tried to pretend nothing was wrong, people would notice and start getting upset years down the road realising that they announced a game in 2017 that would't arrive till 2021+. People were already getting a bit impatient with the lack of news about the game since the reveal announcement. So really, they just made the wise decision to talk to their customers and fans. It's disappointing, but it's better to be disappointed with knowledge of what's going on than to have people getting out of control with speculation while they're waiting for Prime 4.
I give all my respect to Nintendo with how they handled this. Most AAA game developers today would have simply pushed out their game to us for an easy buck despite them knowing that it could be a better game, but Nintendo would rather completely scrap the development of a game then throw out a mediocre game. Yes, it is kinda disappointing to know that they have scrapped the development and that we have to wait even longer now, but it's for a good purpose. I'm looking forward to what masterpiece of a game they bring to us no matter how many years I have to wait.
Man, what an unfortunate place to not know your then / than. Completely reversed the meaning of what you were trying to say, though I DO know what you were trying to say.
ChaddyFantome They should have gotten Retro on board since day one. First they said they wouldn't be involved, even though they were the original creators, only to turn around now and say they can't make it high quality without Retro. It's like well duh why didn't you start with that. I'm sick and tired of Metroid being treated like a B franchise. It has better lore and storytelling than any other Nintendo franchise.
The great thing is that this will be a truly groundbreaking title by Retro Studios. And yes the wait will be long, unbearably long, but just like with Zelda we will pull through! This is a new hope for the Metroid franchise! Let's just be glad that Nintendo didn't allow the current development team to ruin the franchise once and for all.
I like Retro Studios but "groundbreaking" is an extreme oversell. Even if I give you that their first game was innovative, I might need to be enlightened on how the sequels continued to break ground.
Some people were saying "Why wasn't this part of a Direct?", but I think from everyone's POV, it's better outside of a Direct. Directs aren't a good medium for difficult announcements. You either disrupt the flow of all of the positive momentum of upcoming releases, or you are accused of trying to hide it and gloss over it. A standalone video, which is direct (ha) and straightforward, with clear messaging that this is an update on MP4's development, is the right way to go, and I'm glad Nintendo decided to give this announcement its OWN space, outside of a Direct and the financial briefing, where it can be processed and dealt with before we move on.
It hurt me to watch that video too, but it's definitely for the best. I know as a huge Prime fan I would have gone in with remarkably high expectations. I appreciated their transparency and candor. The fact they're looping in Retro Studios is a great sign. The fact it's still out there and it's still happening is enough for me.
I feel like this is a good thing. They are going back to the people who made the original trilogy, and starting development from there. This means they weren't satisfied with their game. And if they weren't satisfied, then neither would we be. They know that for the decade wait, we deserve something very, very special. And they want to give that to the people.
And THIS is how a company shows accountability to their fans, deciding "man up" and apologize up front about the situation and explain what is being done to overcome it. Bad news but well done big N well done.
Yeah, Nintendo could’ve easily acted clueless about it and didn’t say anything, but they chose to do so since, turning away from fans’ feedback would look bad on their part…
I think it's incredibly respectful that they even told us, the fans, that it would be delayed. They knew that we had high expectations, and they respectfully gave us the news. I think the least we could do is respect the decision for that...I mean, they made it with us in mind.
Okay, for those who are interested: There are currently still 32 of 130 people working at Retro who at least worked on Prime 3 and about 10 who worked on Prime 1, 2 and 3.
Not many people working on Odyssey worked on 64, not many people working on BotW worked on OoT. Not that you implied that, your numbers are interesting, but it's no real indicator for quality.
I'm actually glad that they acknowledged the game wasn't living up to quality standards. So many times do companies realize a game just isn't working, but push through and release it anyway as a broken mess. Such a mentality led to things like Sonic 2006. I implore people to not be upset with Nintendo, because let's be honest, many more would be upset with Nintendo if the game was bad. If you get mad them for pushing out a game that was bad, but also get mad at them for scrapping a game because they knew it was bad, you're just punishing them for not getting development right the first time. Everyone makes mistakes, and this is a time in which Nintendo had the integrity to admit that they failed, and they have shown that they're not giving up and trying again. If anything, this should be a compliment. Think about how maturely they handled this. Everything about it shows that they understand just how popular the Metroid Prime series is, only the best will do, and one failure will not cause them to give up. I was worried that it was cancelled entirely, but no, they're giving it another shot. I don't know what was wrong with the game, but I have to respect Nintendo's integrity and devotion to the Metroid Prime series. I salute them.
@@harrylane4 the difference is Doom was delayed for the sake of quality and to make a product more worthy of the Doom legacy while DNF was delayed because of unrestricted ambition. Knowing Nintendo, I'd put my money on the former rather than the latter. Look at how long pikmin 3 or BOTW took. Also, I forgot to mention the same thing happened with the original half life... like it was 50% done and they went back to square one.
Also Resident Evil 2 was almost done than they decide to scrapt it and start all over again and even got new people on board. The original Resident Evil ISO is leaked and many people call it Resident Evil 1.5
I'm very glad for the transparency. If something like this happens, tell us, don't just keep pushing the date out 3 months at a time. I wish that video had comments enabled so I could say thank you.
@@thereisnopandemic yes. What game has retro made that gives us reason to suspect that retro developing Prime 4 is a bad decision? Honestly tbh people are too worried. It will be a great game. This heads up from nintendo assures that
but doesnt this mean that they have to cancel whatever theyve been working on these past 5 years. About 80% of the people who made the prime trilogy have left the company since then so it doesnt make much of a difference. Id rather retro continue on whatever theyre working on and get someone else
Retro Studios is back. Nintendo is demonstrably committed to making this game the best it can possibly be in a way we see so rarely in this industry. The only thing that could make this day better is... ice cream.

My guess is that basically, MP4 is going to be the Breath of the Wild of this generation. Announced really early, and showed off every once in a while, but nothing big will really come out about it until like a year before it comes out, and then it'll be worth the wait.
MP4 is a longer wait than BOTW... We wait 2 years for BOTW, we get it... MP4 however... we wait nearly 2 years... And we are at square one. (I get your point though)

Something that an enormous amount of devs and publishers will never admit to. Along the common lines of "we still believe in the success of ____" "We believe we've made a fantastic game that has such and such issues" "Our team is great and incredible but we did a tiny lil boo boo that people weren't happy about" Rather than saying "Yeah this wasn't as high quality as we want it to be and we're sorry". Fuck all the other stuck up devs and publishers who NEVER apologize as if its some form of weakness. Lookin at you Bethesda, EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard/Activision.
I think this speaks huge volumes to Nintendo's changes in leadership since their new President Furukawa took over and the direction they're going as a company. On the quality side, it means that they're not scrapping the legacy of attention to quality that Iwata had set, and which is a core tenant of the company. It means that they're still dedicated to being a company about Artistic quality, but most importantly unlike with some past games (Arlo mentioned Other M as an example) they also seem more willing to accept and see faults in their own products, take criticism and rebuild the product off a stronger base if it's not to expectations. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he the person who put out the public statement of how, while he respects all of the senior developers and IP Creators at Nintendo, he's going to be the one leading the company and guiding development towards quality and profitability? Perhaps more importantly though this says great things about their PR and marketing side of things. Furukawa comes from not only a marketing background, but from a *global* marketing background. He understands how marketing and PR works in the west, and his leadership is likely a large part of why NoA has had so much more freedom with their marketing over the past few years. It's an indication that we have a Nintendo who understands that their audience actually wants to know what's going on with series in development, that people over here are curious about what comes next from a given studio, and that silence can sow a lot of doubt in a series. I'm sure not everything will be smooth, but this says positive things about how Nintendo's approaching the third year of the Switch's lifespan. P.S. also may not be the end of the world. If the reason it was pulled is because of slow development pace with Bandai Namco, then it could potentially be out as fast or even faster with Retro, especially if they can reuse assets or parts of the Engine. It's important to note that Japanese does not translate perfectly into English and that "restarted" may be a translation artifact. We experienced that a lot with leaks, articles, and announcements leading up to Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Personally I’m happy with this update from Nintendo. Yes, I’m gutted that we’re gonna have to wait till 2022 at an early guess for it now possibly even later, but I think I’d rather wait for a great game then be dumped with one that even Nintendo themselves have no faith in, especially with the hype that MP4 has gotten since its tease in 2017. I think it shows real maturity, clarity and care from Nintendo for one of their most beloved franchises, that of which we’ve not seen much of from them in the past. Also I think that, based on what was said in the update, they’ve gone almost entirely back to square one I now think that it simply is “Metroid prime 4”, they have the title, maybe a narrative laid out, and not much else so I think we are looking at a full development cycle ahead of us. And one final note, I agree that I think perhaps there WAS a plan for a January Direct but in light of this and Nintendo knowing full well that it has been over a year since we have heard anything regarding Metroid and also knowing that it would be highly anticipated for a teaser or gameplay footage (an update at the least) they scrapped the event as to not disappoint people by not mentioning MP4 and then during the disappointment put out this update saying that development has restarted. They made the decision to announce all the main things they had to (yoshi release date for example) and then finish the announcements with this news so that it wasn’t such a blow to the fan base. I’m proud of Nintendo for making the choice that benefitted us the most.
My heart is happy because this means the game is gonna be better than it was originally was planned to be. I don't want a half-assed sequel. You just have to be patient and find something to do in the meantime.
But however will I find more games on my switch? It only have like 1300 games. And as everyone else, I’ve played every single one of them, so I have nothing left to do! *sarcasm*
I hope this game ends up becoming a great success and that we'll eventually see and read about the original project and everything that led up to it being scrapped.
@@bobbymccabe2825 yea because everything that made them Paper Mario games was gutted out and done away with. Like everything Arlo talks about in his PM vids (story, characters, plot, mechanics, etc) Nintendo should see by now that games like Sticker Star and Color Splash are not what we want.
I wonder how people would react if Nintendo would release a color splash sequel, but brought back partners, EXP, unique characters, and gave it a deep plot. Even tho I would prefer the older style.
I know, I was sad at first too but after thinking of all the unfinished and under cooked games of recent years I'm okay waiting for Metroid Prime 4 if it will truly be on the same level as the trilogy. This is possibly one of the best decisions ever made in the gaming industry. How unbelievably responsible of Nintendo in a area of unfinished or rushed games. Also Retro will do magic working with the Switch hardware.
I love this quote. Sure, there are examples of the contrary. Games like Duke Nukem Forever can be delayed for 10 years and released to mediocrity forever despite dlc, yet Majora's Mask was rushed as a challenge and while it reused assets, it became a cult favorite Nintendo title and a worthy sequel to arguably one of the most significant games of all time. Regardless, the message of the quote is clear: they give a shit about their games and don't want to let just anything through. Whether they succeed or fail, when their games get to the masses, they will be fully realized and as close as they can get to how they were intended to be. Even their worst games are cleaner and tighter in excecution than most of their competitors.
I'd love to see Metroid Prime Trilogy Deluxe on switch... or even a port of Metroid Samus Returns from the 3DS. I think we'd all be happy to pay for that. Alot of people would be playing them for the first time.
I would love to have a Metroid Prime Trilogy on Switch, as it goes for quite a lot for the Wii (up to $1,200), and the best/cheapest you can get it is for a digital download code from GameStop for the Wii U for $19.99, but I don’t have a Wii U.
The main thing I'm worried about is that Prime 4 should have more of an emphasis on the exploration n atmosphere rather than the action. Samus Returns took the action-focused route, and it felt all the more disappointing for it. There's also the fact most of Retro's old Prime staff has long since moved on, but I hope they'll still be able to understand what made Metroid so beloved.
@@JamesOsyris Don't know if that's entirely possible? But either way I don't think we have much to worry about. The DK games ended up being amazing, despite the old guys having left, so it's clear they can still make good games. I have no reason to worry yet.
@@reznoire One of the biggest complaints against the AAA game industry today is companies releasing broken messes of a game, with the promise that it will be better in the future. I would rather the game just be good from the outset.
reznoire they can, but first impressions are everything. Even if a game has a bunch of updates and DLC to make it better, the bad taste it left in player’s mouths on release will still remain. And most people who skipped out on it because of how bad it was will probably just ignore it, and most likely not hear or not believe people when they say it got better. Case in point, Star Wars Battlefront 2 (the EA one). It’s supposed to be a much better game now, but it will NEVER live down the controversy it was mired in upon release.
You know, with all this announcement about starting clean with retro studios, I can’t help but hope that the pervious team isn’t too torn over their work going to waste. I’m not sure (and I don’t think anyone really knows) all the details about dropping the pervious team but if they did do a lot of work on it that would really suck. I know if I got to work on a Metroid game and for one reason or another it was just thrown out, that would really get me down. I know this might be sort of dumb to think about, especially because it is their job and the developers are presumably paid for their work, but I do think about this stuff sometimes. Like all that time being essentially waisted I hope once prime 4 comes out we’re able to find out the reasons behind all of this and maybe see what the other developers were going for. It’s a shame it’s being restarted and we won’t see the end product for a few more years, but hey whatever gets us the best game in our hands
Oh, I'm sure they're all feeling awful right now. Nintendo just declared all their work, millions of dollars, to be a sunk cost and scrapped it. And it's not even like this is a marquee title as Metroid is simply not a big seller. Barring unprecedented sales numbers, Nintendo has resigned itself to the concept that Metroid Prime 4 is going to be a money loser and a poor investment. That's how shocking it is that Nintendo pulled the plug. So, yeah, the worker bees cannot be feeling good about themselves right now. I'm sure there are plenty of talented people involved, but this is gonna hurt.
Jon Smith yea, I can only imagine how bad they must be feeling right now I’ve been reading some backhanded comments about it on reddit and one of em said along the lines of nintendo simply didn’t like how the team was making the game. Got me thinking about the possibility that these guys are working hard on the game and the big N just came in and pulled the plug because they didn’t like it. That would sting baaaad. Albeit it had to be something way to big to fix if nintendo decided to start completely from scratch, I can help but to feel sorry for those guy who wasted hours making it I hope they at least salvage some assets or anything like that from it so it’s not all to waste
Jon Smith Dude this game is definitely gonna be a big seller. I bet in 10 years when it comes out it’ll break all kinds of records lol. Forreal tho the hype is huge and the Switch is selling like hotcakes.
Federation Force wasn't really on the same level as Other M. Other M was kind of a spit in the face, Federation Force was just... misguided. It was a spinoff during a Metroid dry spell, everyone was afraid Metroid was going to become the next Paper Mario (or Star Fox, F-Zero, whatever.) That's why everyone was so upset.
Disabling the comments was totally unnecessary in the Metroid Prime 4 Update i think they took a great decision and judging by the likes everyone else thinks so as well, that moment when they said retro studios is coming back made everything worth it and thank the seven gods they did not cancel it, i was expecting the worse lol
Unlikely since Nintendo stated they plan for the Switch to be around for 10 years, and they recently stated in an interview that they have no plans for a new console yet. We're not even into Year 3 of the Switch yet. Prime 4 will be a mid-life release unless somehow tragedy kept occurring and delaying it for over half a decade.
@@lpsoldin3162 Not to mention lets be very clear, Zelda is one of their strongest franchises with a lead who firmly believes in putting the game out when its ready, and isnt worried about the technical/cost aspect. Metroid is, not a dormant franchise in the same vein as say F Zero, but it's a franchise they have had on the sideline for more then a minute console wise. It's more about building up that audience and keeping it happy. It is more likely it would be a completely different Metroid title then Prime 4 if it was delayed that heavily at that point. The 10 year goal seems still silly to me, any console maker can make that bold of a claim, but it doesnt diminish the unlikelihood of this turning into a 4+ year development starting this day forward. I just dont see the resources/time being offered nor that necessary.
@NeRF BaStIoN Meanwhile the 3ds is still selling strongly 8 years later. The DS was still going strong from 2004-2011. Not to mention currently stock markets are pulling out of technology stocks, and PC hardware is not moving anywhere near as quickly as it was a decade ago, let alone two decades ago. Same for home consoles which rely on the same pools of hardware. I doubt Sony is going to provide any competition to Nintendo when the PSP barely kept up with sales of any Nintendo handhelds, and the Vita was a failure worse than Wii-U.
I'd want it to be an HD remake/remaster. I already have the Prime Trilogy on the Wii U. I'd love to get it for Switch, but I can't justify buying it again if there's no difference, even with the switch being portable.
I really want this, i really want to get into to the 3D side of metroid, but my arm just got so tired with the pointer controls in the wii trilogy. I do 't care for accuracy in solo fps systems, just give me something comfortable so i can focus on the exploration.
Oh no, they want to have a good game what ever millions of great switch games will I play until then!? No but really, this is better than just saying it delayed until 2033
A good game takes 5 years (or more) if they will restart from scratch. Its 2019, so maybe 2024 target release. We could expect a trilogy remaster first.
Meanwhile in an alternate timeline, Pikmin 4 was teased...And two year later it was cancelled. Not delayed. Cancelled. Poor Arlo would probably just quit 😅
Arlo I opened UA-cam and 4 years after the fact this is the first video on my recommend.... then I saw the date hahahaha. UA-cam algorithm trying to make my heart sink today
Well, at the very least, this shows that Nintendo cares about the fans enough to tell us about this delay, rather than just sitting in silence for years to come and letting us wait and possibly lose hope that it'll ever come out at all.
You gotta wonder. How bad was Metroid prime 4s development for Nintendo to scrap it completely and restart from scratch with an old trusted developer. Remember, Nintendo green light some stinkers before
I can only think of three possibilities for the studio change: Nintendo needed more of its development staff for other projects, since we know that they're all taking 3-6 years to make, and they weren't making any headway on MP4 as is; They lacked the tools and expertise to make MP4 like Retro did (Japan isn't great at making shooters, even if MP isn't a traditional one, well, as of MP3 at least); or they realized they announced the game 2 years too early and weren't sure that they were capable of making MP4 themselves to begin with due to not making a Metroid like that before.
It's respectable that they were able to admit that they needed to start over in the face of hype. It may, however, be a bad sign that they did need to.
I'm glad they are prioritizing quality. Other M really hurt the franchise and Federation Force was a poor misstep that barely anyone noticed. If Prime 4 came out and was a poor game and sold poorly, the franchise would be harmed even further, perhaps irreversibly so.
If Prime 4 was a poor game and sold poorly, it'd fatally damage, if not kill the Metroid series, and Samus would basically become another Captain Falcon in the sense of, "Hey, it's Samus from Smash Bros."
Federation Force was a spin-off. Metroid Prime 4 has a lot more carried on it's shoulders. Never played federation force, but I here that it was a good game, just not a good Metroid game.
The thing is though that the trilogy deal probably will get delayed too now as putting the trilogy out around the time they can start building momentum for MP4 makes the most sense. I'm afraid we won't see it before next year at the earliest unfortunately.
The day will come that we will see an incredibly polish Metroid game, that could very well be the best one in the series, and be thankful that Nintendo courageously started development over again. We hurt today to feel joy later on. The day is coming.
Go with the remastered trilogy if/when it comes around to get into the Prime games, play Zero Mission and Super to get into the 2D ones (at least one should be available on the Wii-U eShop, and if that's not an option there are other means of trying them if you get my drift).
I see this positively. Think of this as the whole Earthbound one year turns into six months debacle. Except to a much larger scale. If EB is one of the most adored games ever by countless people from a beloved franchise AND was one of the Best Selling titles on the Wii U EShop, imagine what this can do with YEARS?! Prime 4 already had so much amazing potential, a great teaser and pure, unadulterated hype. It could've not lived up, but it would've been at least mediocre, and that's what EB would've been at best. Now, it might just end up better than BotW. Also, as a kind of unrelated side note, I love how they kind of strayed from building even more hype by referring to the game as "standing shoulder to shoulder to the previous Metroid Prime titles" instead of just saying "It's gonna be the best FPS ever and it'll sell more than Zelda" or something like that, which honestly, would be feasible if you take the sheer hype people have RIGHT NOW into consideration.
Neither development time nor hype mean a game will be good, that's one of the most stupid and naive things I have read in a long time. And how was it a good teaser? It was literally just a fucking JPG.
Micheal Kelbaugh is the current President of Retro Studios, and he was working with Nintendo quite a long time. He was even working as senior producer for Prime 2 and even Testing Director for 1. He made all the rest decisions for Returns and how to improve it in Tropical Freeze despite having newer employees. As long as he’s still there, Retro will still be Golden.
I absolutely loved the update. It felt so honest, genuine and passionate. It shows Nintendo really wants something special for us. It showed us they care. They really care. I’ll wait, no problem.

Lets hope that they realize this now and never make this mistake ever again! ^-^
So true
The great thing is that this will be a truly groundbreaking title by Retro Studios. And yes the wait will be long, unbearably long, but just like with Zelda we will pull through! This is a new hope for the Metroid franchise! Let's just be glad that Nintendo didn't allow the current development team to ruin the franchise once and for all.
Exactly
Indeed ✌😊
We already went through that hell in 2010. We can’t let it happen again!
Hello commonwealth!

I agree
Connor McClory I knew when they only showed a jpeg and nothing else the game was in trouble

I love how they decided to be direct about it.
@jesus barrera but they were very direct here
Going as far as to release a video rather than just telling some rando news article
Okay, for those who are interested: There are currently still 32 of 130 people working at Retro who at least worked on Prime 3 and about 10 who worked on Prime 1, 2 and 3.
That's decent numbers
How many of those were leads?
Even if the custodial staff for Retro Studios is still there since Prime 1, I’ll keep hope alive for MP4
Not many people working on Odyssey worked on 64, not many people working on BotW worked on OoT. Not that you implied that, your numbers are interesting, but it's no real indicator for quality.
How many still worked in Tropical Freeze? This game is tight!

People should see this comment.

Like all that time being essentially waisted
I hope once prime 4 comes out we’re able to find out the reasons behind all of this and maybe see what the other developers were going for.
Jon Smith yea, I can only imagine how bad they must be feeling right now
I’ve been reading some backhanded comments about it on reddit and one of em said along the lines of nintendo simply didn’t like how the team was making the game. Got me thinking about the possibility that these guys are working hard on the game and the big N just came in and pulled the plug because they didn’t like it. That would sting baaaad.
Albeit it had to be something way to big to fix if nintendo decided to start completely from scratch, I can help but to feel sorry for those guy who wasted hours making it
I hope they at least salvage some assets or anything like that from it so it’s not all to waste

Watch Prime 4 be a launch title for the next console, like Breath of the Wild was delayed and ended up being a Switch Launch title.
So a dual release on the Switch and the Switch's successor?
Going to hate the wait, but glad Retro Studios is back. They should have been the ones making 4 since the beginning.
Exactly
The guys who made Prim1-3 are now called Armature Studios.
koopa159 Retro Studios has been on the verge of shutting down lately. The only reason they’re getting Metroid back is to keep them afloat.
I thought my phone was froze at first
Me too
hahahah nice to see the footage used are now remastered and hearing arlo's reaction to it. excited for when mp4 does release already
I watched that video too. It was nice.
Oh no, they want to have a good game what ever millions of great switch games will I play until then!?
No but really, this is better than just saying it delayed until 2033
Gee why stop there, delay until 2999.
@@blazingsonic yeah wtf, i love Nintendo but this is bias to a new level XD
Welcome to development hell my friends
Theres the Pikmin 4 area over there ---->
And the FFVII remake
A good game takes 5 years (or more) if they will restart from scratch. Its 2019, so maybe 2024 target release. We could expect a trilogy remaster first.
Wyler XL What does that have to do with the fact that this game took a one way trip to development hell?
Wow, I can see the full version of deltarune from here!
We will get a Trilogy, but they didn't announce it because you don't announce a title while announcing bad news. It kills hype.
Very true, then you’ll have people with conflicting feelings. Best idea is to wait for a bit before announcing something.
Then wheres the triology?
@@AlphaladZXA I think they mean a new "Metroid Prime Trilogy" 4-5-6
It’s ok Arlo. Eat some Butternut squash, you’ll feel better.
That's a real thing?
Yes, please.
Kc Link Yeah. It tastes really good.
Butternut squash? Yes please!
Acorn squash orzo. Yum yum.
my first thought when I watched the announcement was "poor Arlo..."
stay strong, buddy
Isobelle Reid same. I was worried how he’d take it
Meanwhile in an alternate timeline, Pikmin 4 was teased...And two year later it was cancelled. Not delayed. Cancelled. Poor Arlo would probably just quit 😅
Arlo I opened UA-cam and 4 years after the fact this is the first video on my recommend.... then I saw the date hahahaha. UA-cam algorithm trying to make my heart sink today
I’m predicting that Retro has been working on Star Fox Racing AND Metroid Prime Trilogy HD. Both are finished/near finished and will release soon.
I still think the Star Fox Racing game is just a rumor and isn't true
Explained that tweet if a PRIME rib in response to a fan asking about what they were working on.
Star Fox racing was a Wii U game that got cancelled
Star Fox Racing was going to be a thing? Ooph
@@celibel5686 nah just a rumor.
Well, at the very least, this shows that Nintendo cares about the fans enough to tell us about this delay, rather than just sitting in silence for years to come and letting us wait and possibly lose hope that it'll ever come out at all.
I feel like your taking a shot at square enix
God this was this year in 2019!? This felt like 2 years ago
Now it feels like 3 years ago

Arlo.exe is not responding.
You're being a bit much.
Well, Retro’s making it now, and they’ve never let us down, so I have *very* high hopes...
1-up Gaming Never have high hopes for anything.
FF wasn't a misstep. It was utter shit.
Federation Force was a spin-off. Metroid Prime 4 has a lot more carried on it's shoulders. Never played federation force, but I here that it was a good game, just not a good Metroid game.
Hopefully they give us the Metroid prime Trilogy on switch to hold us over.
comics1990 no chance they don’t now.
They better!
The thing is though that the trilogy deal probably will get delayed too now as putting the trilogy out around the time they can start building momentum for MP4 makes the most sense. I'm afraid we won't see it before next year at the earliest unfortunately.
ShadowTani yup I agree
The day will come that we will see an incredibly polish Metroid game, that could very well be the best one in the series, and be thankful that Nintendo courageously started development over again. We hurt today to feel joy later on.
The day is coming.
I've never played a Metroid game, and this was gonna be my first...now I gotta wait even more.
Number 27 might as well pick up the eventual trilogy remaster cause it’s gonna be a while
Go with the remastered trilogy if/when it comes around to get into the Prime games, play Zero Mission and Super to get into the 2D ones (at least one should be available on the Wii-U eShop, and if that's not an option there are other means of trying them if you get my drift).
Number 27 if you have a 3ds I’d recommend you check out samus returns
Just hop on in, the water's great!
Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I'll definetley consider trying some Metroid games.
Sorry. I couldn’t finish the comment. I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw “Wii U eShop”.

I thought the video was frozen for the first ten seconds

For a moment I thought the entire video would just be that

I absolutely loved the update. It felt so honest, genuine and passionate. It shows Nintendo really wants something special for us. It showed us they care. They really care. I’ll wait, no problem.
I was just going to tell you Arlo...but I didn't want to make you depressed...poor Arlo what's next?!?

Star Fax: Ground Zeroes says hi.
Going into that video not knowing anything was an emotional rollercoaster.
I got a Switch primarily for this and Animal Crossing. Really hoping they don't delay it until next gen.
Nintendo expects the Switch to have a 10 year lifecycle. So unless Prime 4 is delayed for another 7 years, it's unlikely it won't be on Switch.

Better to be disappointed now than to be disappointed when you get the game.
I feel like they pulled a brawl with prime 4, where they announced it even before the devs knew the game was going into production
We back now
At least it's not gonna be Metroid 76
