This is one of the best songs in the last 25 years!
Agreed
Last 40 yrs!
Thumbs up if the lyrics perfectly describe a relationship you are in or have been in.
Celery Man made me cry on how spot on it was
Just one. I guess I’m lucky I knew that feeling at least once.
Funny enough i was thinking of my ex listening to this...
Me. Just ended an almost 6 year relationship two nights ago..
@@yeahwhatever1184 You still think about her/him/them. Don’t you?
Now this is a proper ballad..
This song is incredible on so many levels. It is a great example of perfection. The nuances, the story between the lines, the ethereal & haunting melody. This song is under appreciated because it is SO clever & most people are not tuned in enough to catch "it"
So, why try to explain something so special to people who like what everyone else likes?
Play it again & sing every word!
Peace
Duality
I'm so grateful to have stood beside these amazing artists in a hot cramped church basement.
Careful you. :)
My favorite tv on the radio song
Still a great song 6 years later!
Just ended an almost 6 year relationship the other night. Not sure how to feel about it, but this song explains it well.
I ended an 8 year relationship almost 3 years ago and this song still makes sense. Very sad
How are u doing now?
11 years... yeah. This song, man.
Nail on the head. We're starting to end a 10yr marriage. The words are so sad, honest and true
🕺🏽
"you've done a number on my heart, and things will never be the same."
This song still slaps
I feel like i'm wearing a warm, cozy blanket of synth-pop, reliving the late 80's and early 90's. TVOTR is a great revival with new interpretations, paying homage to Depeche Mode and Curve.
+D Rittenhouse yes sir
I was thinking this too.
I cannot stop listening to this and Happy Idiot. The entirety of Seeds is fantastic.
same bro!
If this doesn't make your soul groove, then you probably work for the IRS.
Exquisite melody, I can not stop listening to it
My late mother's name is Melody. No wonder I'm drawn. Haha
I feel so bad when all the people around me don't realize what good music (like this) is and don't find the time to appreciate it
Sad but true :(
Ah get over yourself. Peoples personal taste in music is their "good" music. You're not better than them because you like TV On The Radio.
jimmydahat1 okay
Angie Quint free beats. i felt the same way showing someone a classic song but they can't see it.
jimmydahat1 dont believe it. Im mean sure opinions are opinions, but lets fucking face it, a lot of people, their opinion is just straight wrong. If they hype justin beiber or some shit and youre rocking out to tv on the radio, then hate to say it, but you are better than them. I know that sounds whatever but its the fucking truth and we ALL know it.
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard... No shit. And I thought Happy Idiot was kinda just alright. This is pure beauty, and I'm trying very hard not to cry. Not that original allright but all the elements are synthesized so perfectly that to complain would be absurd!
Check out the song Seeds, last one on the album.
@@lednails yeah that ending is ... eh... really BAD. Wonder who's bright idea was to give one of the best songs ever the big ending of a turd? Smiles.
3 years and this is still the coolest lyric video I've ever laid eyes on
There's a Moment in this Song Where I feel David Bowie's Presence : ( R.I.L. Mr.Bowie)
This song is just incredible. There is something so hauntingly beautiful about it. A love note, and a warning all at once. Deep lyrics with music that feels somehow vintage, timeless, and new all at the same time. Then there's that infectious groove that you just can't get out of your head. Songs like this are why I love music so much
Same
Indie music. Found it in 2001 and never looked back. Bands like TVOTR and others have holistically changed the way I listen to music
Have you ever heard bloc party? Similar to TVOTR @kato76109
I have a crystal clear memory of backing my car out of the driveway one rainy morning when I first heard this. I knew it was a big deal.
This sounds like the end of a relationship. Constant back and forth should you stay or should you leave and you want to leave but you can't because it's so hard and you ache for the sweet old days and good times but it's so hard to make up your mind. The timing is never right to try to make it work and there is just too much in the way to make it work again. The secret of a kiss to melt away all the pain of past mistakes but only temporarily. That's why it's so hard to leave for good.
It could also be the ground work for a new relationship.
This song makes me think about the situation of two people not really sure what kind of relationship they want to have. They're pretty close as friends, could be closer if it became romantic, but they're afraid of what will happen so they just awkwardly stay distanced from each other.
Cool take
+Viking War Pickle
life is awkwardness
spot on
+Mark Mullins we need less awkward movements and more awkward distance then
ThisGuyAndThatGuy SWEG
It's not exactly uncommon...
My awesome girlfriend hipped me to this song...God I love my girlfriend..
This and staring at the sun are my favs lol
Halfway Home! So g[d!
Damn I had to listen to this song like three times today
Just ending a marriage with a narcissist that had me fooled for so long. I made nothing but excuses for her when my friends, family, and ever mental health professionals told me it was all bad. Somehow I always was able to think around all the red flags... Its good to be free but I still have some feelings there? Bizzare. I always had to watch what I said or how I reacted, had to be careful.
I cried the first time I heard this song I fully believe it opened up that part of me that knew I was wasting my time with a toxic woman...
such an amazing song + meaningful lyrics. love it! plus they play it at my job, walgreens & i was so pleasantly surprised when i heard it there haha
New to TV On The Radio. Def one of my favorites so far!
Straight to the heart when i listen to it the first time, still has the same effect now and will be the same in 10 years time. Timeless masterpiece like the whole album.
I actually quite enjoy the synth-indie rock sound their pursuing; it reminds me very much of mgmt or gorillaz. I was a HUGE fan of their old stuff for the soulish R&B style roots, but i'm quite pleased with their individuality, and this is coming from a metalhead. Cant wait to see them Nov 12th in Toronto.
I do as well. 5 years ago, I would be reluctant to say it, as there were mostly only bands and artists out there that relied entirely on "bubblegum beats" But now we have rock artists, evolving their sound to suit a more modern style, while still sticking to the roots. Some notable examples, at least of what I listen to are Yeah Yeah Yeahs(Itz Blitz and Mosquito), Arctic Monkeys (AM), Arcade Fire (The Suburbs and Reflektor), and even Noel Gallagher is giving it a go with his High Flying Birds especially his recent single from the new album Chasing Yesterday, 'In The Heat Of The Moment'. And now TVOTR seems to be trying it, although I think they went with a more subtle approach at it with Nine Types Of Light, as if to test the waters on a few songs.
David W Phoenix's Bankrupt is another good example.
I gotta agree with all you guys! I think that the sound is yes, a different style integrated, but it still conveys their soul-esque vie. also gorillaz and mgmt. are great examples of guys who keep their own sound while using electronic instruments.
Sorry meant to say vibe, not vie lol
also I just saw them perform a great 2 hour set in Toronto last night, it was fantastic.
TVOR have always been a band centered around melody (with some great experimentation thrown in)...and I must say that the melody on this track is just infectious! love it!. Can't wait to see them in Toronto in November!
Yes, exactly!
Likewise got tickets to the exact same event, at the pheonix, its gonna be a good show.
THIS SONG... I think it rivals Wolf Like Me as my favorite TVOTR song... ugggggh so good!
Love this guys voice.....
I am a new fan and this is my favorite song at the moment! A lot of fans seem to be dissapointed with their new work... all I have to say to that is WOW... then I can't wait to hear their older music if it is superior to this because this is on POINT. I love the themes of uncertainty and hope (at least that is what I gather). Also, the end (around 4:27)- I love the sounds!!! They make me feel so nostalgic. I just cannot explain! I love this song!!!
Older stuff is a lot more dense and profound. This album as a whole is pretty weak and superficial lyrically, although the production value is PHENOMENAL.
franklinknights51 completely disagree.
Their whole discography is really solid. I don't know the new album, except for the two tracks I've heard on youtube. I really like this song! If you like it, you'll like their other stuff too. Check it ouuuut.
Vivian123, folks that are disappointed with their new work forgot that they lost a member to cancer, and it takes time to sort of ...gel with a new member, like, the chili peppers working out the kinks with their newest guitarist, that's not to say this album isn't good, it is.. just a bit short, in my opinion. I believe that six of the twelve tracks are nice, and 50/50 aint bad. I still believe "Dear Science" (2008) was their best complete album.
I would think that losing a member to cancer would lead to more emotional and profound lyrics...but maybe I'm wrong. I don't think "gelling" as a band has anything to do with how lyrics are written as much as it does with performance. And the sound/performance is still top notch, so I don't think it's much of a factor at all.
Thank you TV on the radio. You see, i am so hhopelessly stuck in 80's and You are the first ever who made me feel like somewhere in the universe they still make new music in the 80's!
You should check out Kavinsky or Powerglove if you are into heavy synths that throwback to the 1980's. There is also this handy sub-reddit devoted to that style of music. Here is a link. www.reddit.com/r/futuresynth/
Thanks for the info mate!
Ahhhh, so I'm not the only one? :)
Hi GirlSproket, i am going to pick you up today in my 1985 Corvette ( convertible ), we both are going to listen to cassettes on our Sony Walkman all the way to California and be friends. Just kidding mate :) I am glad we share same feelings, because my wife doesn't see any connection to 80's music!
Check out the UA-cam channel "newretrowave"
God, I love these guys. Never fail to disappoint and their lyrics are always so clever, poetic and always bring a smile to my face.
TVOTR fans who don't like this song need to settle-in. Listen to the deep grind, the pulse...there's a groove in the hips that's unmistakable TVOTR. Paired with an exceptional subwoofer, this song will send you soaring. Cheers!
This song gives me a Depeche Mode "Ultra" feeling. Love it!
This song speaks to my soul - a confession of the heart.
Yes, perfectly fits ...oh careful you....
they have lots of great music
I absolutely love this band!
I can't stop loving you N. How do I?
This song is my life right now.
I shared my favorite songs with you (this one for example), you was so special to me 😢.
This and Happy Idiot are my two favorite songs of yours, TV On The Radio. Thank you so very much for creating such glorious masterpieces! :) They never get old and I can't ever just listen to them once... has to be at least two times before I switch songs haha.
Ever heard wolf like me great song too
OMG Goosebumps head to toe
I love how a band tries to evolve their sound and everyone just complains that it doesnt sound as good as their old stuff. I'm digging this and Happy Idiot so far. Anxious to hear the album as a whole
Same here. It doesn't have to be all the same. If they want to try new things yet maintain that TVotR feel then I'm with it. This album is really good, but if people don't like it that's fine, but don't say they sold out or are trying to be too mainstream because that's a lie.
Also who cares if they change it up to bring in more people. Their older albums still stands strong and you should want more people to hear this band. I know I do.
MUST SEE YOU LIVE.
Wonder how this band is doing nowadays
Anyone listening in 2019?!?
Yep!
surreal
Fuck yes.
Yeah!
its been on repeat since Sunday. it's speaking to my situation rt now 100 %
Great new Album. I think one will have nice staying power.
I love this song so much! For me, it reflects a couple at an impasse in their relationship. They love each orher but dont know if love is enough to stay together... I also love to watch the dance scene between Gregory Hines and Mikhail Baryshnikov in the 1985 movie White Nights! Yes, im a total nerd but this song and that dance scene go together like magic!!!
Watch the video Count on Me by Superheart. You’ll love it.
Don't know how I Lost the best woman I ever knew
Im like that right now...
my song ✨
I've been listening to this on repeat for three days - thanks, TVOTR, for another brilliant recording. BTW, those synths remind me of Bowie's cover of the Walker Bros' "Nite Flights". Completely awesome.
cant stop listening to this song! its so addictive. the same happened with happy idiot
sounds like a super furry animals tune
I caught the Bowie vibe too!
Makes sense... they did a great cover of "Heroes".
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this song does things to my soul im so glad i cant wait for seeds to come out
Amen
the whole album is pretty good!
I GOT THEM CHILLS IN MY BODY AGAIN, THANK YOU TV EN LA RADIO!
OUI JE'TAIME!
makes me think of a psychopath covert narc person warning his supply/ ex lover to stay away thru hidden meanings yet trying to rope her back in as well.
Dude the accuracy my ex just sent me this song hahaha 😂🤣
This masterpieace is stellar.
The lyrics of this song are incredibly clever for a generic love song. The song writing of Tv On The Radio is not done without reason or done recklessly. If they want to make more appealing music to the broader audience then I will eat it up.
Still perfect
Just found this while searching for Indie bands on Spotify, but I'm pretty sure I've found something much better. I can't stop listening to this song! It makes my soul dance and sends shivers up my spine.
Oh and it's the perfect song to listen to with headphones. LISTEN TO THIS IN A QUIET ROOM WITH HEADPHONES ITS AMAZING!
Beatle_Lock
I was a similar case 😂
This has to be there best one ☝️
Certain songs I find listening to alone can be better because they touch you in a way most other people wouldn't understand.. sort of like how in a room full of people you'd still feel alone but a song like this would make all the rest disappear
My favorite song right now. Period.
wow! the song reminds me of the book the giver! and the background really makes this more interesting! nice job!
No comments on this anymore lol
And the beginning in French :D
This is awsome ! :D
When you'll be in France, i'll definitly come and see you in concert.
A good song to go spelunking to.
How did I just find out about this band? O_O
Me too
Better late than never.
I'm wondering that now, in late 2018.
I don't know men
this song made me shit and fart and cry
nobody knows about this amazing band
Lots of folks do. ;)
This song is a magical trip through space
Thank you for validating how I've felt before
I want to make a music video for TVOTR. I am always inspired to really cool visuals when I hear their music.
HUGE
Why am I just hearing this god damn song!! This is what I get for moving to small town Texas!!🤨
This song is fucking 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Missed hearing this song from them until today. Played it 5 times in a row because of how mesmerizing this is. Wonderful song from a magical group.
It really is that type of song.
Oui je t'aime
Oui je t'aime
From the cradle to the grave
You've done a number on my heart
and things will never be the same.
I love the mellowness and deepness of this song
this song makes me feel futuristic
fire on ....means go for it
yes indeed!
It makes me think of the past
This explains exactly how I feel about my past relationship... from 6yrs ago. So much love, and it went by so fast. I love you, still. Hopefully we meet again.
Care for you
this sounds so much like Reggie Watts singing that I just like to pretend it's him. Not that the singer of this band isn't good enough, i just really love reggie watts
oui, je t'aime = yes i love you
A demain a la prochaine = for today and the next
A demain a la prochaine = see you tomorrow (à demain), 'till next time ( à la prochaine) :)
nice. i saw those words and translated it to, "yes, i love them."... i was a little off but i love that people are translating the French comment. because this song is fucking badass.. i studied French for 2 years in 2000-2002 and still remember important words lol
I love TV On The Radio, always come back to listen and watch their songs and music vids when I'm feeling down, A lot of the songs remind me of Depeche Mode, really enjoy the lyrics and beats.
facing a break up after 6 years with a girl I've loved so deeply. Im ready to do whatever it takes. I dont know if it's too late for me. this song is exactly what my mind and emotions are doing through this process. beautiful...
+alliant keep on fightin the good fight. It gets better, promise. Not going to get too personal, it's a youtube comment, but just wanted you to know the pain stops eventually. As long as you're here listen to "Sooner than Now" by Sin Cos Tan.
It'll take like 2-3 years. My best advice is to start actively talking to other women. And continue improving yourself. Having been in a similar situation, you'll come out stronger and weirdly it'll help you in future relationships believe it or not cause there is some bullshit you put up with that you will no longer allow.
turtles Great advice. 👍
So hows life now? Two years later? Hope all is well.
I must say, this is one of the best lyric videos I've seen. and an epic song
I love this song, I just wish it didn't make me so sad..
Gosh I like these singles a lot. Uber hyped for Seeds and the people whining about this not being Wolf Like Me can piss off. Everything this group has done has been nothing short of fantastic.
Thank you everyone...I care deeply...Lil Blu...
Tv on the radio, no words can describe how much I love you. 2 months ago my father died. Out of the 14 years in my life, we spent 10 of them listening to you. Thank you.
seriously AMAZING! TVOR is back and better than ever!
This song just goes through me after my last break up left me devastated...I find some solace in the song...maybe others do too....
Exactly! I'm going through the same thing at the moment. This song always brings me some comfort.
Ugh. I can't believe how much I love this. LOVE.
I watched this hoping to find out what he's repeating at the very end of the song with the weird vocal effect, but no dice. Could that sound really just be a strange instrument? Anyone know?
dont' go!
This reminds me of a Beatles song. And it's really aggravating that I can't put my finger on it
I figured it out. When he sings "And how it melts away all pain" before the chorus, it sounds like "Blue Jay Way"
@@mattb121395 It also reminds me of parts of Don't Let Me Down.
This song is where I’ve been for the last 7 months. My best friend, she was my best friend who didn’t love me enough to stay.
Finally a song that I feel describes the end of my relationship
I relate so much to the song!!!
You know I already liked Tv on the Radio, but this song is just so great one of my favorites for sure
Ok this song is just like how I have been feeling for weeks. Finally found the song that tells my feeling. I just kissed this girl a few week ago I haven't kissed a girl in four years and it seem to me that she don't even acknowledge that it happened. I send her flower for Valentine's day and all I get is a text message of thanks. I guess a kiss is just a kiss with no meaning. Not to me.
