So I have a new video essay ready, it keeps being blocked by UA-cam so this is just a re-upload of my tier list in two parts. I should have actual new content for y'all tomorrow and it's like...an hour long lol.
I was watching a film called We’re all going to the Worlds Fair and at one point there was someone who I’m pretty sure was May just standing there with wings. I was taken aback a bit cause I wasn’t expecting it
@@pinkredsun0707 no, it’s been a few weeks or so for me as well. I think it might have been around the middle and it’s only for a few seconds so it might be hard to find by skipping around. Sorry I couldn’t be more help
Be My Cat is a very strange but good found footage film. It's not for everyone but I genuinely liked it for the performance from the main character alone.
This is one of my favorite videos of yours, the editing and commentary are both top-notch, always glad for an excuse to rewatch! If you find the time, I’d love for you to do a part 3/revisit of it, to see what’s changed in your opinions and add in the ones you’ve seen since!
I don't get Ichi The Killer, I'm already not a fan of SA in movies but the movie cuts back to it so often I just got bored. Like someone jumping out to scare you but it is always in the same place it stops making you feel anything but annoyance
Technically, that’s a pretty thematically apt feature, when you think about it. Kakihara is a sadomasochist who’s terribly bored by the viscera and depravity around him. I’m not saying that means you were wrong, I’m just saying that’s a funny little parallel.
Millennial here and I had not seen Donnie Darko until my mother bought one of those 3 pack movies from Walmart that has 3 movies by a specific actor and the pack was Jake Gyllenhaal and my cousin saw it and he blurted out the line, "please, tell me Elizabeth, how does one suck a fuck?" And we both got in trouble cause he said fuck. He's gen z BTW, and loves that movie. ✌
No pressure of course, but it would be so amazing if you did a video one day on Felidae, The Plague Dogs, Watership Down, and/or When the Wind Blows if you get a chance to watch them...🙏 I find the content in those films even more upsetting because of the medium (but there's a lot of beauty in them too).
I adore Gerald’s Game. It’s a very satisfying movie. I’m pretty nervous about watching Raw- it looks good, but I’m afraid of getting nauseated while watching it.
I would recommend all of the animated films you haven't seen on the list! The only one I would personally call disturbing on any level is Plague Dogs, which was written by the same person as Watership Down but has a MUCH bleaker outlook on life (at least in the movie. The book has a much happier ending.) It's themes of animal testing/cruelty is probably where most of the disturbing comes from.... or the scene with the hunter, which I get. CWs: animal cruelty/death, drowning, gun violence Felidae has similar themes, plus dark religious undertones and kitty cat eugenics. Most probably call it disturbing due to that one nightmare scene. It's a German animated film based off of a series of books about the central character, Francis, solving mysteries~ There's also a cat sex scene which tends to make everyone uncomfortable. CWs: animal cruelty/death/testing, gore on the level of Warrior Cats (think evisceration) When the Wind Blows is about an elderly couple in England who survive a nuclear attack. It is also incredibly bleak and a scathing takedown of the British government's shit information on nuclear war etc. Also it starts with a song by David Bowie! It's mostly just depressing and incredibly sad to me. The art direction is fantastic and the cast is incredibly small, literally just the couple. I've honestly only seen it once so I don't think I can give accurate CWs for it. Honestly the only reason people find Watership Down disturbing is watching cute little bunnies rip each other to shreds lmao; it's one of my favorites tbh. Many people saw it as kids, as you said, hence the childhood trauma. Many also find the Sandleford warren's destruction upsetting, which it is. CWs: animal death/violence, guns, mild gore. With those animated films on there, I'm a little surprised Akira didn't show up. Body horror immaculately animated with a huge budget and clear passion from the team. Another one I strongly recommend. A lesser known absolutely traumatizing animated film is Padak, which is about a fish in a sushi restaurant's tank. Fishy cannibalism and animal cruelty abound. Spoiler warning, there is no happy ending.

I'd just love a list of this. Just a nice ledjedgible list that I may read. Edit: gen-z'er here, just confirming that I've seen Donnie Darko. All I can say about it is I live next to an air force base and whenever a plane flies too close to my house all around me are familiar faces.
Gozu is one of my favourites. The scene where he kills the dog is so fucked up but so funny at the same time. Also the scene with the “American wife” is great meta humour. Of course, it’s a film that most people only remember for the last ten minutes.
I just found your channel yesterday and I've been binging ever since and dude I absolutely love your whole vibe! Funny, interesting, intellectual and serious all at the same time 😁 Much love from Norway!

I'd disagree on the American guinea pig v the original one. I've seen both and I find the American worse in some ways in-terms of disturbing, but prefer the aesthetic and quite realistic look it goes for, to the point it still gets confused for genuine snuff.
the American one has a great aesthetic but for me the acting and writing (and length) really take it down for me, the original is kind of equal in my eyes only because its not very good the second movie is absolute kino and neither come close

American Guinea Pig is so boring, tbh. Not just because I don't like torture porn, the torture is just...lame. Like it's not creative or engaging. At least that's how the first one was. It was legit just "hey let's watch this guy chop up two completely silent women" and nothing else happened.

I dunno if I'd call Hereditary disturbing as much as I'd call it, shit-your-pants scary. Also, I'll admit that the performance in Megan is Missing is ten times of awful but there is just something so inherently unsettling about the concept in itself. Like...that's one of the few movies that genuinely fucked me up for like a good long while
I’unno, man, I watched a REVIEW of Hereditary the hour that I learned that my cousin was being taken off life support and lemme tell ya’… That’s pretty disturbing.
@@kayleighbrown459 S’alright. It was years ago, now. Ive seen An American Crime, it is the second attempt to bring Sylvia Lychens life, torture and murder to the screen.
