He still has to do paperwork and go through a naturalization process not automatic
Being married or having kids with a American doesnt do much to become citizen. Only thing it has done from what i have seen is instead of going back to where you came from for the whole paper process they just send you back for couple days at end of process especially if your the main income of your family.

EC C i agree with you partly, but still and all her father was speaking on what he told Joe personally regarding the Citizenship. That was for Joes own good at the end of the day. Teresa did have a hand in it and she did her time and paid her restitution 🤷🏻♀️ the issue here isn’t money spent its the fact that Joe failed to apply for US citizenship after ALL these years of living here, and that was a situation he already had when he met Teresa so in this case it’s his bad. Mary Lockwood don t blame all this on Joe. Teresa paid a huge part in all this. Teresa wanted to live a certain lifestyle and pressured him..Caroline said when she was on the show that Joe would be happy living in a cardboard box as long as he had his family with him.
That's a grown man in ICE facility who can't take it now imagine all the kids and babies they have in those place's. So sad

That's exactly what I was thinking about. A lot of these comments are absolutely heartless too. We all knoe Joe should've done the proper paperwork, but it doesn't mean he's not going through hell in there. I just don't get how people can be so heartless.

Joe has lived in the U.S. almost his entire life. Why in the world would he be so careless about getting his citizenship? He’s such a fool and so is Teresa. They brought all of their misfortune onto themselves and they’re still blaming others for the consequences of separating their family and leaving their girls without their dad.

Ultimately Joe's citizenship issues fall on him but their entire family knew about this. Teresa must have known about this all along, too, so she is complicit in it for being so lackadaisical about this too.
He was a permanent resident with a greencard which allowed him to live as a citizen. Unfortunately, those with a greencard can get deported if they commit a serious crime such as an aggravated felony. He probably didn't think he was going to get caught.
Never got his US citizenship, committed felonies , withholding taxes ( the irony ) ,but it’s somebody else ruining his kids lives and his marriage .

Speaking from a person who has lived in other countries, If an American went to another country and committed a crime we would be deported as well. This is a sad situation and I feel for them but he knew the risks. I knew someone sent back for getting a DUI. The law is the law whether you like it or not.

Yeah maybe they would have overlooked that if would have paid his taxes. Tax evasion just doesn't look good on a request for citizenship. Teresa's father is right. He's never done anything right. He blew their lives up.
But if his wife is a citizen can she not file for him bases on their marriage. I dont understand how this is even a huge problem.
@@Flourish_today But before they got married he could have gotten his citizenship since he has resided in the country since he was a baby and didn't have a criminal record, so he didn't need his wife to acquire it. It was stupid of his parents not to apply for his when they did theirs but Joe was wrong for not applying for it once he got older.
He wasn't an illegal alien thought. Many individuals with a Green Card don't apply for Citizenship.

I agree with Teresa’s father. He has had his entire life to legalize his citizenship. His own father in law told him to legalize his citizenship but he kept putting it off. That’s on Joe. You and Teresa caused this on yourself. No one else.

Am I the only one who feels bad for Joe?! I completely understand that he should've done the proper paperwork to become a citizen, but those detention centers are no joke. There's always stories about how awful they are, and anyone being separated from their kids is absolutely heartbreaking.
