Amazing - I started there in 1993 so in 1995 i'd have been.. year 9? Watching it now in 2020 is very interesting, what a timewarp to see it again as I remembered it. I gather it has changed quite a lot since this.
Wow Andreas. Well done for taking this video and it is almost the same as I remember it after leaving in 1975. Thank you for this and it brings back many fond memories of the South and North Wings plus the redgra in between. The footage of the interior of the North Wing was just how I remember it which I am surprised at. I was there from 1967, when it started till 1975, when I left aged 19.
Jim Lassen it really is brilliant. And as a student that goes to fortismere in the 21st century i am really interested in the history of the school. It is amazing how much the school has changed! First of all, there is no longer the redgra. And there is a new science block where the playground for south wing is. The music block and metal work rooms have been demolished and turned into grass areas. There is no longer a playing court at the midway point between south-north and is now a car park for teachers. North Wing has changed the most as the entrance has shifted slightly to the left to make room for another drama class room. There is also another school for people with disabilities which occupies a bit of the old redgra. The "redgra" is now a tennis court, Gym/Sports Block and an Astro turf (fake grass area). There is also carpet on the floor in north wing now. The gym in north is also gone and has been made a 4 story building as a music block. My list can go on for ages! the school looks like a different school to me as there are so many changes. Probably why they are bankrupt!
andreas Charalambous always love to write about stuff I love. Did you film this? also, there's a science teacher at fortismere called ms charalambous. Related?
Now Andreas, were you not tempted to run across that Redgra! LOL - I remember running from the south to north wing to get into the lunch queue. I'm pretty sure the buzzer used to go off a tad earlier in the south to allow for transit. Does the buzzer still even exist?????
Went there 71-76. Was happy to leave it behind and left with mixed memories of the place. Only time I was really happy there was when playing football either on the sports field or redgra. The only two teachers I have good memories of are John Jackson and Laura Beard (nee Baugh).
I was there between September 1992 to January 96 I was so unhappy there 3 boys in my class Jamie Davies Tony Fordham and Darren spires was so abusive towards me to the point where I had to be taken out I had a really bad breakdown I am so glad I away from that horrible place
looks completely different now, its kinda weird to watch this, it has fully changed and also where the subjects are has completely changed, there are literally new buildings
