Such a shame you didn’t get the SS! The ‘SS’ or Holden Commodore here in Australia has been a very popular car over many decades. Unfortunately GM have now discontinued them and Holden has ceased production although when they were still around they had multiple different options over here. The base model ‘Evokes’ used a V6 3.0L, very common for general duties police and government vehicles. Then we had the ‘SV6’ which was a middle range sport option, still with the V6 engine but in a 3.6L. Then we had the ‘SS’ which was the ultimate sports model, big V8 6.3L engine in the most recent model (VF), which was commonly used by our state highway patrol police across the country. Also had the option of going the more luxury ‘Calais’ model which came in both the V6 and V8 but was more refined for everyday driving. A heap of interim and special limited models were also very common. Also, when you were talking about it being supercharged, look up the Holden special vehicle (HSV) VF Clubsport, you will be very impressed! Amazing cars, with a lot of history here down under!

Craig, the one big bonus for that tundra is that it's a console shift truck and not a column shift with the jump seat. When I bought my tundra it was the only requirement I had was the 2 bucket seats and the center floor console. And I'm sure I'm not the only person that is looking for that. That's a steal on that truck

Hey Craig, absolutely loved this one. The interaction with your dad adds interest and I love your assessment of common faults. I am from Australia and the Holden has been made to look like an HSV. Ironically people here put Chev badges on! The Monaro was only ever made in 2 door andthe last time they were produced was the early 2000's. Prior to that the first ones were created in the late sixties and were made until about '84. Like all Holdens now they will start to become collectors as GM pulled the pin on the company because they wanted a billion dollars from the Australian Gov to keep the factory open!

I work for a dealership, our used lot only likes to sit on cars for about a month max before they either discount it or send it off to auction. We typically sell for about 5-6k over what we have in it, so it’s hit or miss on whether we actually “lose” money on it, but the lot space and time is a big factor. Could have sold 3 cars for $5k profit each in that time frame.

You are so right about cars today. If it's not Honda or Toyota - its a gamble at best. It's funny - people crave all these new and newer vehicles that look cool and have so much tech in them and the manufacturers build them because give the people what they want right? - yet they are all destined to tear up eventually and people wonder why. I wish more were still made today that were just reliable and don't have so much crap in them. We bought our first new vehicle in years a couple of weeks ago - 2022 Toyota 4Runner SR5. It's as basic as you can get and just like they made them 12 or 13 years ago. It'll still be running in 20 years when things like that Suburban you showed are long since crushed and turned into a soda can.

Craig, you probably noticed this already, but because your tundra has a console shifter, I’m fairly confident that makes it a 2wd. 2 wheel drive and 4x4’s look almost identical outside, but I think 4x4’s have steering column shifters. I would guess 2wd tundras aren’t very marketable in the northeast.

The only reason I mentioned it is I was in the market for a Tundra and drove and looked at dozens in November & December. Every console shifter I found was 2wd. I needed a 4x4 so after a while I would just look for what shifter it had to determine if it was a 4x4 or not

I've owned 60 plus cars and the ones I bought, drove and made money off of were the Honda's and Toyotas because I put very little into repairs and they last forever! Love learning from you...

I think things will come back to normal soon. Last year at Manheim auctions across California, they were running about HALF the amount of cars through the auction block that they usually did! Latley it seems the amount of cars passing through these auctions are almost back at 2018/2019 levels. For example, today (2/9/22) @ Manheim CA in Anaheim, there are 2,600 cars on the presale sheet! In early 2019 before COVID, they were running 2200-2600 cars a week. So it's back to normal
