    I live in the OKC area
    The OKC arena is still very early in the planning stages. They are still deciding on a site for it. Renderings won’t happen for a while, but it’s going to be massive, almost double the current footprint of the current Paycom Center. I’d be very surprised if it didn’t go over $1 billion by the time it’s all said and done. Plus you have to remember that OKC is one of the cheapest metro areas in the USA. Building the same arena in LA would cost close to double

    My guess is that the Jazz will be getting that new arena. SLC will need to build another arena for the Olympics and It will also need to be high-capacity. If the state/city has to fund it, I can imagine they’d want a long-term tenant such as the Jazz and would make it multi-purpose

    About the possible expansion Vegas team: so basically what the narrator was saying is that the new arena will be like what exists at Mohegan Sun (home of the WNBA Sun) and Mandalay Bay (home of the WNBA Aces)…..just probably on a bigger, ritzier scale…..

  • @frictionhitch

    The Delta Center will likely get an attached hotel and stay in use for the Salt Palace convention center. Smith actually owns the arena as well as the Jazz. My guess is that he sells it to the county in return for some funding for his own arena likely on 400 South and Main.

    The Paycom Center in OKC was built initially to attract an NHL team. When the voters approved that arena, minor league hockey was a BIG deal with the OKC Blazers in the 80s and 90s. They averaged 9000+ fans over the course of 17 seasons in the arena across the street at the Myriad Arena.

    • @iamchaunceman
      @iamchaunceman 7 місяців тому

      Yes, what’s your point? He sold the majority to the Sands corp, simply to A) get billions so he has the liquidity to even build an arena
      B) the Sands corp as he stated is “ the lead experts in building casinos “ so his team dream project can happen. Owning a third will still allow him to have control of the team but now the new majority owners can focus on the gambling and casino aspect. Hes thinking 100s of billions because there’s no revenue share when it comes to business outside the arena even if they are connected. You’re seeing hotels and large venues now being built with stadiums for that reason. A third is still alot of value if you’re also owning a third of a casino and hotel now.

    The reason the 76ers New Arena it’s not set to open till 2031 is because that’s when their lease at Wells Fargo Center and they do not want to have to pay to break the lease. Coming from someone who lives in the Philadelphia area and fan of the sixers and flyers, 76er Place is absolutely not happening. No one in the city wants this arena and there are even multiple petitions going around to get rid of this idea all together. Plus wells fargo center just got massive renovations in the past 5 years and is beloved by everyone in the city so it is pretty safe to say that 76er place is likely not gonna happen. It better not at least.

    OKC is now entering the developmental phase of the new arena.
    Renderings will be released date is still unknown.
    The only thing approved is the funding for building it.
    Site location will probably just across the street to the north of The Paycom Center.
    The arena there will be demolished.

  • @robertvillarreal3038

    The University of Texas at San Antonio just agreed to lease, to the city of San Antonio, the property that their Institute of Texan Cultures sits on. They are set to demolish the building and relocate that museum to another downtown location. This move has certainly increased the speculation that city will eventually move the Spurs to a new arena which would be built on that land. It is an ideal location, at it it is right next to the Hemisfair Tower and within walking distance of the River Walk. The Frost Bank Center would then be turned over to the county and would continue to host the rodeo and other events and concerts. I would think that the Spurs would prefer a timeline of five years or so since they would want to take advantage of the Wemby era. There are studies taking place for this development, a portion of which probably pertains to funding. Also, the Spurs would have to pay the county a penalty if they moved out of the Frost Bank Center prior to the expiration of the lease, which is in 2032.

      I actually wonder if the city of Vegas even gets a cut.
      I know that in the beginning, casinos were built just outside of the town limit to avoid taxes to the city, but I imagine that would have had to change in order to accommodate the infrastructure growth around the area.

    • @AustinBeal1
      @AustinBeal1 9 місяців тому

      As a fellow 32 year SA resident, the Frost Bank center not being downtown isn’t the real issue. It’s location on the east side in a relatively undesirable side of town is the problem. The city/county decided to go cheap on the location when building the arena, and justified it as a “revitalization of the east side” but that never progressed beyond building the arena. Now it looks so completely out of place wedged between a CocaCola bottling plant and the 100 year old Freeman Coliseum.
      With Wemby being the potential face of the NBA, San Antonio needs to understand the pressure of the situation. The downtown area is already well equipped with hotels and attractions that a new arena would easily be able to thrive.

    • @July9326
      @July9326 9 місяців тому +2

      @@AustinBeal1 As another San Antonio resident who actually lived the majority of my life on the eastside right by it on new braunfels ave, the city did lie about "developing" the area around it that they had plans for over 20 years ago. Nothing ever progressed in the area, zero growth for businesses etc. so it was obvious that the only purpose was for them to save money and be cheap when it was constructed. I agree with our new franchise player Wemby being the face of the league now they must capitalize and build something better downtown that would actually help the city's economy since they need to realize Victor will bring in millions to billions of dollars for the entirety of his career so money should not be an excuse now for building the new arena downtown.

    When the Spurs arena was built, everyone knew it was a crappy location in an industrial and poorer economic area. IE, nobody wanted to go or hang out there and there was nothing to do other than the Spurs.
    The reasoning the city and ownership gave is that the Arena would revitalize and spur (no pun intended) economic development on the east side and make the area more appealing. 20 years later, the Arena's exterior looks like shit and the area still sucks.

    It is bad enough that L.A. is going to once again have separate arenas for the Clippers and Lakers, so why the hell does Las Vegas need ANOTHER arena? Just put the NBA team into T-Mobile Arena. And even right after the renovations were done, how is Wells Fargo Center not good enough? The reason the 76ers ownership group is even pursuing this is is like the Clippers, they do not want to be a tenant in another team's owned building.
    And as for the 76ers, Chinatown is an adjacent neighborhood directly north of the Fashion District Philadelphia shopping mall. The western third of the mall would be demolished to build 76ers Place. Chinatown residents and businesses are against it because they think the arena would destroy their neighborhood. Then again, they complain about the existence of the Vine Street Expressway because they think it divides their neighborhood. This project is a very long way from happening. The 76ers already had their initial plan at Penn's Landing turned down by the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation in favor of a future park.
    Lastly, the Arizona Coyotes are not moving to Salt Lake City.

    MGM has a lot of influence, they are the reason the A's stadium is being built on the Tropicana site because all their casinos surround it. T-Mobile is very likely where the Vegas team will play as I believe the ownership group will involve the Golden Knights owner and MGM will want the team to play right there next to all their casinos. A lot of back-pocket envelopes will be passed around lol
