My eyes always water when I hear this song. I think about my wife and worry about her everyday. Wishing everyone good health in these difficult times. 🙏🏽
I saw the Tops do this live at the Fox Theater here in Motown. Levi cleared the stage, toweled himself off, sat on a stool, and started singing. And about halfway into the song, the lights come on, and out comes the rest of the Tops singing in harmony. BEAUTIFUL!
I drove all the Tops in 1998, except for Levi. He was in a seperate car. What was left of the Temptations and the Four Tops played Jones Beach theatre. Lawrence Payton died the year before. Except for the obvious age showing, those guys sounded EXACTLY as they did thirty years prior. God rest them all now and forever
Singing doesn't get any better than this! Levi's voice has always been able to lift my sprit and soul, what a gift he had and what a legacy he has left us. RIP Levi, it has been such a privilege to have your voice in my time.
Noone will ever sing this song as well as Levi...I love him his voice and his qualities af a wonderful man, husband father and grandfather...One hell of a loving man..a one woman man. God bless him xx
I was told to come and listen to this song by a man who believes in US. This is one of those oldies but goodies that is tasteful, romantic and will NEVER go out of style. Mr. Levi Stubbs hit this one out of the PARK.
This is our wedding song, we had it on repeat all night!! Couldn't believe that the four tops didn't get more credit for this song!! Hits the ❤!!!! Fantastic!!
I was watching a rerun of Miss Universe 1985 Top 10 and they played this song in the background. What? I thought only Miss Whitney recorded it in 1996. So this is how I got here. Love the original recording. My hats off to you Levi and the Four Tops.
This is just an absolutely perfect vocal performance. How do you sing tender and powerful at the same time? Absolutely amazing! When I think of a beautiful, classic, perfect male singing voice, I think of Levi Stubbs on this track. The performance was already perfect, and when he hits that note at the end it's like are you kidding... drop the mike!
@@ThelmaPorter Whitney Houston made it ultra popular by singing it in the Preachers Wife and just plain singing it period just like she did with Partons “I will always love you. No one could sing like Whitney.
This is the most perfect version of this song. Levi Stubbs had a gift in his voice and his ability to use it effectively... God what an amazing man he was, all 4 of them together were Magic and I was there to witness it firsthand. Soundtrack of my youth 🎼🖤
This is a remarkable song, that presents and defines the meaning of what love is. The power in this song is presented in such a way that it is boundless. The tenderness, softness, goodness, the expressions of love, our eternal blessing.
If you ever had the opportunity to hear Levi perform this song, you understand that no one could ever bring this to life like Levi. His passion in performing this number will stay with you forever. I would go to every Four Tops event just to hear this song.
This is a magnificent song of hope and love. There's none better than the Tops. Sing it Levi. What a great talent. He had such devotion and honesty in his music. God bless you Levi sing on in the heavenly choir. You are truly missed. #1 fan forever.
brother Levi sang the hell out of this song. one of his best, if not the best. for a natural baritone, he had a very nice range. thank god for recordings. thank you lord!
I've mentioned the same thing on some of their other videos. He could sing notes that even second tenors couldn't reach. One of the strongest and most recognizable voices in the history of popular and soul music. No one before or since has been able to duplicate what he could do.
Oh and if you're a fan of Levi, I know you've heard his rendition of "MacArthur Park". By far the best version ever done and the Tops did some of their best background vocals ever on the bridge.
oldschoolsinger His voice was simply amazing but so too the lyrics of this song and note on the wall in the background (There is always hope). Truly touching!
Listen.....Whitney did a great job with this song but this version is over the top good. Levi Stubbs really pours everything into it. Thanks for sharing.
I love this song. It reminds me of my brother John who passed away last year. He loved his wife Lauren like I have never seen a man love a woman before. Lauren had early onset Alsheimers and passed five months after my brother did. I smile when I say this because I know they are together again. I love you and miss you John.
I remember listening to this every night on the Quiet Storm. Still one of my favorites. Love Whitney but her rendition of this song can't even compare.
I BELIEVE IN YOU AN ME.. so so beautiful, so so true...I did believe in us. I guess things change. I STILL BELIEVE IN YOU AN ME..(never give up on love)...beautiful song..thanks guy's for all those beautiful songs over the years.......
This song brings me to tears every time I listen to it. I know that I will feel the feelings conveyed in this song for my spouse, and will gladly sing it to him when we take our vows, and then daily for the rest of my life because that's what love is really all about!
I love this particular cut by the Four Tops. It truly reaches the soul. The words, the melody is all spell binding. It amazes me the talent of Levi Stubbs. His raspy voice is second to none. This group will definitely live on. I hope the younger generation will catch on to the quality of this music of this era. Four Tops, you all are the greatest. Love you guys. REST IN PEACE LEVI REST IN PEACE....
Not only is this a gorgeous song, which a friend of mine had for the first dance at her wedding, but absolutely no one could sing it like Levi Stubbs. He was amazing and I was fortunate enough to hear him sing this song and others one time at Radio City in New York. I was upset to hear about his stroke and even more upset when he passed on. God rest his soul. A wonderful light went out when he died but we still have his wonderful voice to listen to, and this song was his best ever.
+Hubie Thompson Me too!!....This song just takes you there!!....Hell Yes turn it up and just keep singing it!!! Thank you!!.....You just(Well I do) start thinking about all kinds of shit and be crying!!! Beautiful song, Great singer!!!
Thank you, thank you the great Levi Stubbs, This is my love song to my wife of 32 years, Rest in peace . from just an old white guy! who will never forget your talent!
This is one of those beautiful songs. When you hear a man sing the real sentiments of his heart be happy and receive the words. This song touches my heart.
Levi Stubbs absolutely owned this song. A lot of folks give Whitney credit for it and in my humble opinion it should have been a much bigger hit for Levi and the Four Tops. Whitney was Whitney, but Levi owns this song and it is undoubtedly his. This is probably my all time favorite song (among so many others) or at least on the top 10 of all time favorites.
Kathy, you used the term "he owned the song." And you are absolutely right, "no one can sing it like he did." Whitney Houston was good, but this song was definitely made for him and no other...
I was blessed to know and spend time with The Tops, hung out ,played cards , told jokes and just had good times with them. Great guys. Only Duke is still with us. Miss them truly
This song was my husband and mine wedding song! Never knew that the Four Tops sang this until I met my husband 22 years ago. We played this song all night long on our first date.
